Duckett is on 73* off 65. In the series he has 204 runs at an average of 51 and a remarkable strike rate of 102. His overall average in Test cricket is 44.17 and a strike rate of 87
Just waiting for the mini collapse. I'm.currently sitting in a waiting room at the Eye clinic. When I come out around 11ish I expect us to be 3 or 4 down.
Duckett 102* off 88 balls. Fastest Test hundred by an Englishman against India. A remarkably effortless innings of pure dominance. To put it in context, the two men at the other end, who are both anything but slouches, have managed just 35 off 68 balls.
Brilliant innings. Completely dominant, but controlled as well.
The controlled element is the key. There have been one or two occasions when we as a team have become too obsessed with hitting the ball out of the park rather than assessing the situation and finding the gaps as and when - it was that attitude that cost us the 2nd Test against Australia with Lyon off the pitch and ultimately stopped us from winning the Ashes.
Both Duckett and Pope were in receipt of bouncers in the last over from Siraj. Rather than do what we did when the Aussies bombarded us and try and hit it out of the park, they elected to roll their wrists and pull down on the ball. Yes they might only have got singles for the shots but they are still at the crease. Siraj and Bumrah can't bowl forever doing that and it will have an effect on their efforts later in this innings and the game overall.
More contempt from Siraj prior to that wicket- he was called for a "no ball" and physically pushes down on the Umpire's arm held out to signal the decision. He can't wait for the Umpire to finish or walk around him.
Come on, own up. Who thought a year or so ago, in a series in India, that the top three runscorers and with the best three averages are our top three? I certainly wouldn't have!
When in early September 2016 I saw the Pocket Rocket Ben Duckett score a double century at Beckenham for Northants my first thoughts were why wasn't he playing for kent as he was born in Farnborough just a few miles away. His parents moved away so that wasn't an option.
That was a great century and 19 x 4 and a 6 was everything that Ben and Baz hoped for. Can Duckett go on and get a daddy hundred? For England to get close to the Indian score it's certainly needed.

Root 9* (13). Still 238 runs behind but plenty to build on especially as India have only one review left.
