As much as I dislike the bloke I think he is right here. Football finances are broken and the premier league hoarding it all and not sharing down the leagues is a problem. I'm glad someone at our club is standing up on this issue.24

well said Charlie boy - fair play for naming names as well11

What has happened to damage Charlton?
Can anybody explain in plain terms?1 -
We, along with all other EFL clubs were supposed to be getting a fairer share of Prem media revenue, but Palace and West Ham amongst a few others have voted against it.seth plum said:What has happened to damage Charlton?

We want grace and favour Premier League money that they have a moral obligation to pay out to sustain the football pyramid something something…the conversation is about something, or nothing, or which point in between.
I imagine clubs outside the Premier League want money and (some) clubs in the Premier League say ‘why should we give away any of our money?’.
Can they be forced to pay?1 -

About time someone has had the balls to speak up and name names. Football as we know it with four professional leagues is finished unless something is done to prise money away from the greedy bastards in the Premier League. Well done Charlie.6

Can someone confirm the story here, my memory is a bit hazy... Did the government tell the Premier League clubs to sort a deal themselves or else the regulator would come in and do it, and they may not like the deal the regulator came up with?3

Credit where it's due. He was spot on and came over well.0

The regulator will procrastinate and prevaricate for probably years. Regulators can’t or won’t even stop water companies from poisoning our rivers, lakes and seas. Quite how many teeth a sports regulator will have doesn’t fill me with optimism for a quick resolution.Chunes said:Can someone confirm the story here, my memory is a bit hazy... It's so funny that when the Super League information came out Parish was the first one to jump onto Sky Sports to complain that teams were about to be given a raw deal and how unfair it was. He talked a big game about the 'gilded elite' needing to be controlled and then recently he had a tantrum about the new Champions League format. He said 'while...there’s nobody over the top of it to govern that, to regulate it, then we’re in trouble, and we seem to be sleepwalking into it while Mr Ceferin picks all our pockets frankly' and complained about them 'pulling the drawbridge up'. He's not wrong about any of that, but he makes himself out to be a man fighting for the future of the FL pyramid when really he's just pissed off that bigger teams are getting more money than Palace, and the first chance he gets to do the same to the teams below him he'll do it in a second. What a prick, at least the Super League teams are honest about their greed.20

Let's automatically relegate palarse and wet spam to L1 for a few seasons with no parachute payments and see how they feel about getting more EPL funding to the lower leagues then.21

Usual horseshit disco from Jordan afterwards1

You are probably right but this is a far simpler thing to decide than water regulation I would expect. The PL clubs have a figure of £900M yet can't agree. A regulator just adds 50% to that number as a punishment and it is done very quickly.
I suspect the reality in all of this is that ultimately the EFL will get a far watered down amount and just like EPPP before there will be a huge load of strings attached which all favour the PL (feeder clubs...?).
The question when that happens is how many of the new USA owners bought into the EFL expecting a huge wedge coming their way and when it doesn't how many simply walk away leaving EFL clubs screwed.0 -
Remind me what he has had to say about the last four-six months at Charlton, as I must have missed it?22

It strikes me that there are some that won’t accept Charlie Methven regardless of what he says or does. When he speaks he’s wrong and when he doesn’t he’s wrong.33

Methven was right this time around, but with the laws of CL restored, can we please resume the negative narrative of this person who represents our club.0 -
My point is that he is a minor shareholder at a L1 club, at which he has no formal position, so it’s not clear he has much locus. It’s interesting therefore that he is speaking about this on a national radio station when the club has been through a crisis during which neither he nor anyone else in apparent authority has been willing to put their name to anything (IIRC). It’s a bit odd.

Rodwell, Elliott and the other bloke addressed certain things when answering fans questions (re' Scott / Appleton / shit signings etc etc) in the interview with Charlotte. How much credence you give what they've said is another matter, but they did do that. With regards to CM, maybe he was just asked by TalkSport for his opinion on this subject as representative of the shareholders of a League 1 club, and he agreed to give it.Airman Brown said:My point is that he is a minor shareholder at a L1 club, at which has no formal position, so it’s not clear he has much locus. Or are we saying that there should be complete silence from him until such a time that certain members of the Charlton fanbase give their blessing?19 -
Actually I don’t find it odd at all. It’s what people do isn’t it. When things are going wrong they tend to keep their heads down. As you say he has no real authority so I doubt he could have added anything to the debate about our flirtation with relegation. On this particular topic even as a small shareholder he has a dog in the fight and his opinion is as valid as anyone’s. I’d expect him to have an opinion and it’s hardly his fault it’s been sought by media outlets to express it.Airman Brown said:My point is that he is a minor shareholder at a L1 club, at which he has no formal position, so it’s not clear he has much locus.
