Bromley FC progress in EFL

Big congrats to Bromley FC. Can't see it lasting long, but a great achievement.

Thought I'd start a thread to chart their progress.

Why can’t you see it lasting long ?
  • Just a feeling. First flirt with league football, and it is a big step up. Good luck to them though.
  • They need their own thread for next season?

    WTF

Probably because they are tiny club, it's not Fifteen to One mate.

Barrow have adjusted well so far, Harrogate as well.
There are 5 or 6 clubs in League Two that have made the step up.
  • Give it a couple of years and they could be our big derby rivals.
  • Good chance we could draw them in the League Cup or the Pizza Van cup, both of which are regionalised.
  • Well done to Bromley FC!

  • Mad to think that they used to be a standard non-league pre-season opponent and now they're one league below us.
  • I think it’s 30+ years since anyone promoted from the 5th division has come straight back down the following season.
  • Congratulations Bromley.

Really? That’s an amazing stat, I was under the impression that teams in the 5th division being fully professional is a relatively recent thing (which presumably makes it easier to adjust) but I’m guessing that’s not the case?

Used to be only one team relegated from that league for years, which helped.
  • I think I'm right in saying that Bromley is the largest Borough in London.
The catchment area for the football club is huge.
Should Bromley survive the 1st couple of seasons in league Two then I'm confident they will attract enough investment and support to establish themselves as a league club.

I didn't think it had ever happened since Scarborough became the first automatically promoted side in 1987. I can't find a list to prove or disprove it though, I just always thought it was true.
  • I think Sutton United had to spend a lot of money changing their pitch.
From another thread our new pitch is going to cost £1.4 million.
I would guess it might be a similar amount to rip up a plastic pitch and start a new grass one.
Maybe league money and Wembley money will pay for the pitch, so strengthening the squad will probably have to come from money collected from other sources.
As with Barrow, Bromley will need to make a little go a long way. The ground will very probably fill the 5000 capacity for a number of games. But that is not a huge income generator, so on the football side loans will matter.
McGrandles and Fraser might suit them, they have a history of loaning from us, so there might be a mutual benefit possibility going to happen.

Presumably the pitch will be a fairly significant net loss finically, given that it will cost however much to replace with grass, and then won’t be able to be rented out during the week.
  • Harrogate, Sutton and now Bromley promoted to the football league and now have to dig up their Astroturf surface and lay a grass pitch for this August

Would presume Bromley will be away from home for the first 2/3 games whilst the grass is laid and has time to bed in.

  • Could see it being a good loan spot for Asiimwe but beyond him I'm not sure who else would be suitable from our squad to loan to them?

From a pure betting perspective, it makes the relegation market so interesting in league 2. None of the promoted side get relegated so its affects the market big time. Sutton & FGR were 8/1 to be relegated

More likely we could do with some of their players!
  • The conference is a very tough division. Lots of former league clubs are stuck there or have dropped to the regional leagues. The step up is minimal.

Googling the ground capacity (it seems to be a state secret on their website) it comes up as only 5k. surely that can’t be right

  • Congratulations to them, good game to watch yesterday.
