  • Thing is let the good times.
I can get off the train at bromley south walk two minutes to a pub and then 15 minutes to bromley fc.
At the moment you've named 5 grounds out of 24

Bromley has got to rank up there as one of the "driest" in terms of any pubs near the ground.

How do they cope now when 300+ thirsty northern biffers turn up wanting a pint?
Spoons opposite Bromley South train station.
    15 minutes walk max.
    Bricklayers Arms and The Crown.
    Decent pub the Bricklayers.
Next to the South spoons, I often spent a few quid in there.

You joking? Bromley has a ridiculous number of pubs all within walking distance to the ground and Brom South station.
You must've missed the "near the ground" part of my post. A 20 minute walk isnt exactly "near" in comparison to most other grounds.
Off it , can you tell me the grounds in league 1 that are within 15 minutes of a pub.
    The Valley

    ???

The Angerstein Hotel is a minimum 15 minute walk and is awful.

I'm assuming the Anchor & Hope lets away fans in, even worse than the Angerstein.
  • I think The Valley has become a much less attractive fixture for away fans since the demise of the Antigallican. I think it’s a real shame

Turn right up Hayes Lane then The Bricklayers and then the craft beer place immediately next.
From here a brisk 10 minutes walk to South Station, easy.
  • Turn left at top of Hayes Lane if you've left the ground for The Bricklayers, Weatherspoons & Bromley South Station.

10 minutes with  your little legs.

£15 for 3 pints, then do the reverse journey.
The Crown is half way from the station and The Bricklayers.

When was the last time you went to the Anchor & Hope? I really like it but each to their own. It does let away fans in though, yes. Tend to get a good mix
  • The Anchor in Hope was always a well looked after pub….OK, it’s some years since I was last there but I am surprised you are giving it such a poor rating. 🙁
  • I go to the anchor and hope when there are no trains to Greenwich.  Its location is good, enjoyable if the weather is nice!  It does what it says on the tin, it gets beers in me before 90 minutes of Valley pain.  Its not the best pub in the world but its also not the barge pole!!
  • The Anchor & Hope is fantastic pub. Whenever I have mates down for a visiting side that's always the place we go.

Last time i was there it was a Greene King pub, they didn't have a great selection of beers. It was Fosters, Moretti etc and the cask beer tasted bad.
  • Sutton hung on for a few seasons probably due to the euphoria of actually getting to the EFL .. no real reason why Bromley can't do the same especially if there is a bit of investment in players even after the necessary cost of a new playing surface
  • The pitch thing, I do have a problem with, 3G pitches should be a thing in the bottom 2 leagues, no real reason not to, and the Championship clubs who keep blocking the move, need to get over themselves.

Bromley get a lot of stick for their pitch but it's been such an asset for them. Real shame they're going to have to dig it up. Was quite an investment and can sustain a lot of use in all weathers from women's youth and community teams without impacting the first team.
  • The bricklayers arms is 5 minutes away top of hayes lane

  • Good luck to them.  We will wave to them as we go in the opposite direction...

Relaying it next door apparently. Should still generate revenue.
  • Barnsley
Up to 8 pubs now then out of 24 grounds.
Next question how are we getting to half the pubs?

    Sutton managed 3 seasons.

    Finished 8th in 21/22, 14th in 22/23 and 23rd in 23/24.

In general teams coming up from the National league do ok in the first season but then they either get worse or improve and challenge for promotion in subsequent seasons.

Sutton, unfortunately for them, got worse.
  • Barnsley
Town 10 minutes walk from ground, also a boozer at the bottom of the hill behind the home end.

Many countries use a 3g, Bromley played Blackpool on it in the FA Cup this season.

Finnish Veikkusliiga use 3g pitches, almost all clubs in Finland do.

Disagree. Football is a game played on grass. Artificial pitches have improved significantly over the years,  but they're still not the same as playing on a grass pitch.

With the advances in grass pitch maintenance, etc, and the quality of grass pitches generally now (where people bemoan the fact there may be a small patch not completely covered in grass) I would say the case for artificial pitches at a professional level has diminished, rather than increased.

    Non-league, absolutely.
  • Re pubs near Hayes Lane, I went to a little micro pub called the Bitter End last time I went to a Bromley match. It was really good and I’m sure it was only 10/15 mins walk.
