Great season from him with a goal every 147 minutes.
6 goals in the last 8 games is immense too.
In comparison, the drop off in form from Kone is a massive problem for Wycombe, just 2 in 11 at the business end of the season.
Is he struggling after his injury? Is he pissed off he didn't get a move in January? Either way it currently looks a very bad move that they turned down a 7m bid from Luton.
get a regular goal scorer and the chances are you are going to be at or near the top of the league. Get two regular goal scorers and you are going to win the league…obviously didn’t quite work out that way for us last season though, or for Barnsley this season so there are exceptions to the rule.
He was clearly behind the pecking order to Ahadme, which is bonkers when you look at it now. Given his age and the reliance we have for him now needing to play extended games into the play offs, it could well prove fortunate it worked out that way.
It is bonkers in hindsight but I think we started with playing Ahadme and Campbell to press and wear a defence out and then bring on Aneke to bully the tired defence and the guile of Godden to find the space and get the goal.
It worked well for a few games, but then injuries meant we had no pace in the team and weren’t able to play that way anymore.
It was only when we changed the way we played again and got our pace back that Godden really started coming into his own as a starter.

Just imagine if we had kept Alfie May & not signed Ahadme.
You mean 'just imagine we had kept alfie may, managed to shoehorn him into a Jones formation that involves defending from the front, assume he and jones didn't kill each other and that Godden scored as many goals as he has with having ahadme instead of alfie may in the squad'
As much as Godden has had a great season, it is actually our ability to score from all areas that is the real threat - to have 20 different players to have found the net (and 23 that have assisted), in all competitions, has made it so much harder to contain us.
Godden's goals have won us 13 points and his presence as a distraction has probably won us a lot more. But we should also appreciate the contribution of others in games where that vital goal has made all the difference:
Gillesphey - 9 points Berry - 6 points Campbell - 6 points Leaburn - 5 points Jones - 4 points Small - 4 points Ahadme - 2 points Anderson - 2 points Coventry - 2 points Kanu - 2 points Ramsay - 2 points Aneke - 1 point Docherty - 1 point Edmonds-Green - 1 point
Most of those players have a "day job" and scoring is a bit of "overtime". Gillesphey's is to to defend which makes those 9 points absolutely massive in the context of the season overall. Without that extra contribution from each and every one of the 14 players, in addition to that of Godden, we wouldn't be where we are right now.
Finishes the regular season with 21 goals from 33 starts and 13 substitute appearances in all competitions. 18 goals in the League. A goal every game an a half (ish) in terms of minutes played.
Doubt Alfie May would’ve scored many more and he certainly wouldn’t have been able to lead the line the way Godden has in some matches.
Bit unsung, imo. So intelligent and shows quality when it matters. Took both his goals so so well today. Should’ve had a hat trick if Doc had looked up rather than shoot.
Two Mendoncasque goals today for him, but I was equally impressed with him as a target man today, some brilliant flick ons, he wins so much in the air.
He was very good. Also, credit to the young Hylton lad. Took his goal early then organised things to make sure that the other kids scored too. Proper team player.

His name literally got sung for about 50% of the match!

Well then there was 50% where his name wasn’t sung then!
Good to hear he was getting love inside the ground today. And I’m not suggesting he’s not rated, just I think he’s been really good since Christmas and hasn’t been talked about quite as much as he deserves. For example, I think he should’ve come in the top three for player of the year.
Felt so confident that Godden would score that 1st goal, such a tight angle, not sure anyone else in red wouldve rolled that in the way he did, fantastic.
Such an intelligent player. We’ve had bigger, stronger, quicker and trickier strikers, but he anticipates so well, makes the right decisions, shows good movement, is so composed etc it doesn’t matter, it doesn’t stop him scoring goals.

Possibly some wishful thinking in there
The question for me is , will Daniel Kanu appear in the first team again this season, I don’t think I’ve seen an update?
Confident, intelligent strikers have been very few and far between since we left the Prem.
