Given their playing history and the fact Docherty is far more experienced as well as being our captain I've been more disappointed with his performances. Ahadme definitely gets the worst of it on here though
Totally agree. Downside of being a striker is when things go wrong for the team you’re always the lightening rod, the flip side is when the team is winning and creating goals for you to score you’re the hero

At his age you can learn to use your body better, improve your confidence, get stronger, work on your decision making and reading of the game etc.
All those things and more would help any striker. I doubt the issues are purely down to technical ability.

I’d like to see him (Docherty) back in the side. He and Godden need to be starting games now.
Not just back in the side but back in and playing his natural game and not worrying about breaking into the box and scoring. Leave that to Berry, Godden and whoever partners him.
Yep, Doc needs to show why he was selected captain. I was very excited about this signing, but he's quietly faded from the team and it hasn't been spoke about much.

Think there's a simple reason for that. Docherty has been largely invisible. Ahadme has been very visible - given we hit the ball in his direction endlessly.

It’s the same shit every year. We ship out a load of players each summer & replace them with other shit players.
Is Ahadme any better than Connor Wickham? Is Docherty any better than Albie Morgan? Is Alan Campbell any better than Louis Watson? Is Gillesphey any better than Terrell Thomas? Is REG any better than Hector?
Honestly don’t think there is much difference in many of the above changes (some look much worse than what we had previously!)

Of the five examples you’ve given, four that we have now are obviously better than the alternatives you’ve listed.
- Docherty integral to Hull winning this league and made regular appearances in the Championship, Albie mid table fodder at this level.
- Alan Campbell integral to Luton’s Championship promotion, Louis Watson can’t find a club.
- Gillesphey integral to Plymouth winning this league, Terrell’s struggling at League 2 Carlisle.
- REG an important piece in Rotherham’s promotion out of this league, Hector clearly past it and can’t find a club. - Ahadme isn’t a better player than Wickham but CW spends more time on the physio’s table than Chuks.
Go back a year and if someone had said Hector is no better than Innis you’d have been on here telling us about his record at Fulham. A year later and it’s not unreasonable to say Hector was no better for us than Innis. Just because a player was once good doesn’t mean they always will be. We’ve had a bad habit in recent years of signing players just as their form goes off a cliff. Once upon a time you could point to players like Simon Francis (and quite a few others) and say there was something wrong with us because players would be bad here but good again when they left. That trend has ended and now they seem to turn bad here and then stay bad and drop down the leagues. If these players we’ve signed are all decent Championship players, why did no one in the championship want them? The early signs are it’s because they’re not championship standard anymore.
I’m sure that’ll turn out to be the case for some of them.
Allan Campbell though only turned 26 in the summer. He played regularly when Luton won the Championship playoffs. It didn’t work out at Millwall, but they went through 3 managers. At his age I find it hard to believe he’s coasting as we’ve seen players do in the past.
I think we’re not seeing the best of some of these players and the style is a big factor. The midfield watch the ball fly over their heads all game. Ahadme isn’t the target man we needed. TC plays like the winger he is. Even when the midfield do get on the ball, they’re all similar types of players. We don’t keep the ball long enough and then pass quick enough at the right times to get the wing backs into dangerous areas to create chances. It’s no wonder only the defending has looked good at times this season, while our attacking play has rarely impressed.
I don't disagree Scoham, but at the same time on the occasions these players are in a position to play a bit they haven't shown much yet. Usually, you get a few flashes of what they might have to offer - even Marcus Maddison scored that one screamer. Either that or they really do never show anything and turn into a Charlie Kirk situation. People have pointed to the fact that May started a bit slowly last season but it was only 4 games and even then you got those flashes of what he was about. That's the thing that is looking a bit concerning for me, there just hasn't been much sign of anything but obviously I hope things improve and soon so I'm not writing anyone off yet, just expressing concerns.
I guess my general point is players are like stocks and shares - past performance is no guarantee of future results. Age is no guarantee either - Francis Jeffers peaked at about 19 years old and then his form descended pretty quickly from there. It's about getting the players at the right time, which is not necessarily as easy to identify or predict as fans might like to think.

I guess the difference there is that was before we rebuilt the squad in the summer transfer window. This current malaise comes after we've signed a lot of players that Jones, supposedly, wanted. It was that rebuild that was the catalyst for the turnaround under Powell, that's not an option for Jones at the moment.
the tone of that press release seems very much like NJ is going into himself. That’s a dangerous state it can create a siege mentality that brings about a positive change or alternatively precedes a massive meltdown if things don’t improve. Saturdays post match interview could get tasty
Thought we finally got to see what he’s good at today. He’s was excellent. He looked much more comfortable playing deeper and sweeping second balls and being the second line of the press with little expectation to try and drive us forward. Based on that I’m not sure NJ is right that he’s a number 8 in the making but he looked good today.
He’s got a knack of stealing the ball off of opposition players from behind when they don’t even realise he’s there. Showed intelligence with some of his passes into space when we needed to run the clock down as well.

Just let him play in the style and position he likes to play and you get a very effective player.
