  • presumably that means he's virtually guaranteed a first team place ?
  • Interesting choice. Looking forward to seeing how our midfield get on in proper games.

I think Jones is expecting goals from both Berry and Docherty. They’ve both had seasons where they’ve got a few but not recently and neither have they done it consistently year after year.
  • Interesting that not all Charlton players are following him and/or liked the post

I mean I think that was pretty much set in stone well before any decision about the captaincy wasn't it?

Disharmony in the dressing room already then.

Hope he’s a cajoler and a bit of a whinger. We haven’t had one of those for a while, someone to get in the ref’s ear and use a bit of gamesmanship.
    Another Nicky Bailey type.

FFS, so what……what are you trying to suggest and why?
All your post can achieve is “thoughts of” mistrust and disharmony.
A very strange and totally unnecessary post I must say.🤨
  • Not saying he won’t be team captain but isn’t Club captain something different?
  • I mean unless there’s more players but on his own post and the ones Charlton have posted nearly all players have either commented or liked the posts

Bore off mate. The Charlton Life pile on in its full might.

As I said just an observation.

    It’s a forum I can post what I like.

It’s an odd choice of wording but given that there’s no team captain named , I take it to mean the same thing .  I can only think of the year when Matt Holland was team captain but Graham Stuart was club captain when they were different people.
  • We did it in 18/19 with Solly and Pearce. I assume like in most seasons we won’t have both club and team captains.

Ah yes.  Solly wasn’t guaranteed to play - good memory.

  • I think this is a very good appointment. For me it was a choice of Docherty, Berry or Alex Mitchell. Someone who's going to be vocal, lead by example and is respected.
Dobbo, for me, should never have been a Capt, he was too quiet, most of the time.
Jones, as vice Capt, also disproves the theory that NJ didn't rate him.
Role on the start of the season, I'm relying on CAFC, to help me get through my current battle!

Who’s suggesting you can’t post what you want….not me.
I therefore assume you grant me the same right.
    Touché Monsignor Shitstirrer.🙄

Look, you’ve just got to roll with it, and don’t look back in anger.
  • Talks well - can’t remember the last time the club captain sat down for a pre match presser like that?

Getting the number 10 suggested it but this is confirmation Jones wants to turn Docherty into a goalscoring midfielder. He scored 5 in the league when Hull won the title so I get the way Jones is thinking, but also get why some would rather see a proven consistent goalscorer signed for that role.

He got into good spaces against both Wigan (unfortunately fluffed the big chance) and in his Birmingham cameo (shot blocked) so I have no doubt that the goals will come by virtue of the positions he’s taking up.

If he can contribute 10 ish goals by playing further forward then he has in the past then that would be very helpful indeed.
