His best game so far, captains performance. Hopefully we’ve realised he’s not a number 10, and just slot him next to Coventry every week from now on

He was a round peg, in a round hole today... Didnt try to play him too far forward, instead stuck him next to Coventry, those two could do the donkey work in front of the defence - Allowing Campbell and Anderson to do the donkey work further forward.

More of the same in two weeks please.
makes you wonder what was happening before

Yeah, perhaps Jones has been trying to be just a little bit too clever for his own good with all the stuff about converting him or adding to his game.

Just let him play in the style and position he likes to play and you get a very effective player.
Agree, same with trying to convert TC into a striker, that's not worked either. Feels like NJ has held his hands up at a few things he's tried that hasn't worked out. Much better performance from Docherty.

Play a player in his correct position and he has a very good game.
    Who knew?

After the final whistle he came over to the East tapping his forefingers to his head for what seemed like over 30 seconds.

Wonder what that was all about?

think it's to show they've got the mentality to come off a bad run of form and beat the likes of Birmingham

Good leader. Hope he can properly settle in and spend some time in his natural position now. We missed him on the pitch against Stevenage and Bristol Rovers.

I made the point on the Birmingham points thread, that when we signed him, NJ said about playing him as an attacking midfielder. It was only late in the transfer window that we signed Campbell. The coaches were playing catch up with what was Campbell's best position, and he is clearly better as an attacking midfielder than Docherty.

Doc is vocal, and a good leader, and it's all about finding his best position. I think we've found it now.

I'm not normally one to single out players, but what does this go actually do?

In all my time watching Charlton I've never seen the captain dropped, subbed or benched so often in such a short space of time. Is he injured? Is there more to come? What exactly is his game supposed to be?
Poor signing so far mate, and probably the one I was most excited about. He was genuinely very good the last time he was in league1, almost looks washed being blunt.

Out of all the new batch, only Alex Mitchell so far has really impressed me, and I can see being part of our long term plans, can't say the same about any of the others.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Mitchell is the one in his early 20s who still has plenty to prove and achieve. So many of Powell and Bowyer’s promotion winning players were trying to progress or rebuild their careers, or older players who could still genuinly contribute.

Docherty has been so disappointing, I don’t notice him most of the time. I thought he was supposed to be an energetic all action box to box midfielder. Instead plays it safe when he has the ball but not in a good way. He isn’t an attacking threat, doesn’t drive forward with the ball and doesn’t get noticed for tackles and interceptions.
  • Him & Ahadme (new Captain & big money forward) were supposed to be the talisman that got us into the top 6 this year.

Sadly it hasn’t worked & they’ve ended up being our worst two players.

I don't think he's been one of our worst players, but he needs to improve by quite a bit IMO to be an automatic pic as captain

agreed, his work rate and attitude are captain levels but he does lack quality on the ball and that’s a problem

Him, Anderson Berry and Godden largely anonymous for the whole game.
For just how long can we carry these kind of performances?

Wouldn't say Anderson is anonymous. He gives the ball away so much, you can't help but notice him!

Anderson isn’t anonymous, he’s up there in terms of energy and pressing, if he improves in possession he’ll be a very good player for us.

Big if though, he could just as easily end up in L2/L1 and be nothing more than another Lapslie.

None of them have been brilliant. But I get what Anderson does - he runs around a lot and gets in peoples faces (then plays a sloppy pass and loses the ball). Berry hasn't been great but has chipped in with a few goals and Godden looks like he could be a decent poacher, if only we could put some balls into the box that give him half a chance.

But Docherty? No idea. Same with A Campbell. Completely anonymous.

Doc is stealing a living right now. He hides most of the time and when he does get the ball, he plays it safe, mostly backwards. He's our worst captain since Mark Hudson in my opinion.
  • Don’t get what he’s meant to do in the side. Looks like a passage and not sure what is he meant to offer to us.

At least with Anderson you can see some attributes like his energy and defensive work although other parts of his game are seriously lacking but Docherty? What does he actually do? And why when he does play does he still get given the captaincy?

It says something when the club captain gets subbed off 3 times in the first 15 games, and dropped about that many times too

Very disappointing so far. I thought he was going to be mustard at this level. Still a good chunk of the season to improve but currently a C-, must do better
  • Must be a clause in his Contract that he'd be made Captain if he agreed to join us.

Why he's Captain ahead of Alex Mitchell is odd

Thought he was a a bit of a coup of a signing but bar the goal against Bolton I'm not sure what he actually does. Weird choice of captain too.
