I guess it shows the very fine margins in elite sport. Our skeet shooter was awarded a sliver unfairly yesterday after the judges failed to spot that she had actually hit her target and today we were 1 second from gold in the triathlon relay.
You say the silver was unfair, but we'll never know if that's what it would have been if the competition had continued as it should have. A few shots earlier, her competitor claimed she'd hit one that wasn't given and that kept our shooter in it. Still waiting for them to show the replay of that. I wonder why.

I know. I said this the other day, and it prompted a couple of golds so hoping lightning strikes twice.
Watching it live I thought it was a bronze and you rarely have a photo finish in the triathlon and not quite sure how they called it wrong ?
Beth Potter is a great athlete but her Bronze in the individual did seem to sap her energy for the mixed Triathlon.
I watched live too and thought bronze, but hard to see all the limbs/ribbon at the end from that angle so was pleased with the silver. they should still be chuffed with the bronze. it's just weird it was confirmed as silver then changed after.

No, I said the silver was unfairly awarded. The shoot off should have continued, maybe our girl would have won maybe she wouldn’t have, but it was unfair to award her silver at that point because she had in fact hit both of her targets.

Fingers crossed!
We got that rowing gold by the finest of margins, but it certainly things we’ve had more silvers that could have been golds than the other way round. Getting a silver medal at the Olympics is of course an amazing achievement but we’ve been really close to having an even more amazing Games.

Didn't see the event but how does a judge manage to miss something as important as that?

So the shot only clipped the right of the target, which counts as a hit, but because it only clipped it the smoke/paint (not sure what it is) inside the target wasn’t released. For reasons that are unclear to me, the judges don’t have access to video replays which clearly showed the hit and instead just rely on what they can see and because the smoke wasn’t released didn’t spot that it was a hit.

The Governing body decided they didn't want to retain their Video review system

I blame the pundits on "Shoot of the day" moaning that VAR delays had ruined the spectacle.

Seems very silly to rely on the naked eye (or a pair of binoculars at best) in a sport that requires judges to see a target in the distance being hit. Any reason why the scrapped video reviews?

this boulder climbing is incredible. everyone struggling but our guy just comes out all limbs flailing and throws himself up the wall
The yellow and blue wall is insane. Anyone getting the 25pts there should be given an immediate gold.
so it seems that the earlier contestants were the lowest ranking and these ones out now, including a 17 yr old favourite are up these walls like a rat up a drainpipe making it look much easier!
he just got up the blue and yellow one in seconds and the fella before him did the same.

The TV cameras had the slow-mo up on screen whilst she was still appealing…..incredible that it was not immediately used as irrefutable evidence. We as viewers knew it almost immediately??? Absolutely shocking for such a cock-up at ‘the premier’ sporting event on the calendar.
I'm busy today, so you can thank me for all the gold medals we win when I'm not watching.
Can you not watch Keeley Hodgkinson tonight please Killer !
If I'm in the pub this evening, I'll ask them to turn the athletics off.
Mate, enjoy your pints and cheer Keeley to gold as she still has to beat her Nemesis from the world champs Mary Moraa. At least poor Athing Mu, the gold winner from Tokyo isn't here after falling in the USA trials, thought Keeley did beat her last year in World champs.

Give it a rest.
Forget your a CAFC fan/critic for a while and just appreciate the blood, sweat and tears given by GB athletes.
I was hoping for one thread on CL that doesn't have negativity running/walking through it.
Oh you were only joking 😁
or were you 🤔

Arsene Wenger was one of the judges.

Just how much gymnastics can there be left ffs.
edit: although this bloke with the hushed tones sounds like he's commentating on snooker!
Set the bar higher than Gymnastics.
Pole fault qualifying on.
