Why did she opt to go so much higher than everyone else? Surely would have been better to get a couple of easier vaults out to get a rhythm. Looks like a really stupid decision by her in hindsight.
British girl, Molly Caudery, out after a massive case of over-confidence.
The over confidence comes from the media as we are finding out with Keeley Hodgkinson who has been given the gold medal already despite the final being this evening !
Molly has had a fantastic last 18 months including winning the world indoors. Conditions were good and I have just seen her last attempt and it was a technical mistake of placement as she was so high and clear but came down on to the bar 🤦🏼♀️

Exactly. Massively over-confident, as she's jumped 4.92 this year. Don't think she'll be making that mistake again.

Holly Bradshaw didn't qualify today either, but after a long career keeping us entertained with her pole vaulting exploits, she bows out for good now not on the high she'd hoped for, but she deserves recognition for her past efforts

She could have gone in lower and Qualified.
Shit happens.
The media didn't make her decision for her.
In retrospect I would agree it looks and was a mistake but as you said she has jumped 4.92 so 4.55 should've been no problem for her if she was in contention for medal's.
Molly Caudrey and her coach Scott Simpson made the call because they felt that would lay down a good marker; it wasn't needed and they now have to reflect.

It was only qualifying. No marker needed at that stage.

A marker in the sense that she goes over 1st time at 4.55 which she has cleared regularly in the last year. She didn't clear it 3 times and now it's a massive error🤷🏼♀️
Can GB become only the third country (after the United States and the Soviet Union) to win 1,000 Olympic medals?
Before this year's Games started, GB had won 916 Summer Olympics medals and 34 in the Winter version, leaving GB poised just 50 short of the one thousand mark. So far, 38 have been added, leaving a target of just twelve more.

Will we get there this Summer?
with all the crappy new sports they do its all a bit meaningless.

Hodgkinson is surely going to get a medal, Josh Kerr also. So that leaves 10.
Must be in with a chance of getting some in the track cycling as well.

Yes, and I'm confident we will win more medals 🥇🥈🥉 than the Soviet union/ Russia in these games 🙄 though the US of A will continue to rack up the medals.

"Meanignless" is not a word I would choose to celebrate a thousand Olympic medals. Or even just one.
I think 4.55 was 100% the correct height for Molly, it's probably where she starts in training and she makes that 99 times out of 100. on any other day she turns up, has 1 attempt packs up and is back to the village
as it happens something was very wrong today and the height was probably pretty irrelevant; that 3rd attempt was the worst I've ever seen from her, it was the timing that was off, not the height. sometimes in sport shit just happens and this was one of those times
Congrats to the Italian gymnast who won the beam gold. She had previously had to go through the pain of seeing her podium place disappear in the overall competition but now experienced the reversal of fortune in seeing her rivals (literally) fall by the wayside.
