Such a shame that Fleetwood couldn't hold on, but a silver medal is still a great achievement. He was there all 4 days and just fell at the penultimate hole. Fair play to Scheffler, what a round and that's why he's number 1.
Cant say fairer than that. Scheffler is the worlds No 1 for a reason. He is a better iron player than Fleetwood & a much better putter. Silver is way better than we could had hoped for going into this
And good job Rory was playing for the other side. His double bogey on 15 would have just been another nail in the coffin. But today it didnt matter.
And am I the only one that's miffed about how they compute the medal table. I believe the US just do it based on the total number of medals won, which I think is better.
Even so 4th or 5th is excellent compared to the other teams around us.
China & US - biggest 2 countries (that are here) Oz get a lot of their medals in the pool. Not as good as others on the track. France - host country so naturally will do well

What’s there to be miffed about? It goes on golds first.
Great ride by the American in the road race. Just went and the other 3 couldn’t go with her.

That Womens Road Race was spectacular. Didn't think Vos and the Hungarian rider were going to be caught and then Kopecky and Faulkner reeled them in before that huge sprint from Faulkner that seemed to just break the chasing pack.

Just you and America, I think.
Golds first makes more sense to me.
as one of the biggest team It must suit the yanks to go on total medals, never mind the quality feel the depth..
Have the USA nicked our athletics kit? Can't get used to this dark blue one.
we should stick with white with the red and blue stripe, you know where we are then. I wouldn't think theres a great replica kit market, so they should stick with a kit we can pick out in events.
This year's kit is awful! Apart from the strange colour, it's desperately dull looking too. Our kits have always been white, with blue and red on them, not plain dark blue.

Daniel Wiffen attempts to get his second gold of these games in the men’s 1500mm freestyle shortly.
Daniel Wiffen and twin Nathan were born in Leeds but they moved to County Armagh when 2 years old.and decided to swim for Ireland which is fine and adds to the medal count for our neighbours but GB could've had another Gold in the 800 freestyle and Daniel has just finished in bronze in the 1500m.

So 1 country could have 15 golds & nothing else & they come higher in the table than a country with 14 Golds, 15 silvers & 20 bronze.
Seems to go against the ethos of "its the taking part that matters..."

Indeed its 1st is everything, 2nd is nowhere.
What about a points table? 3 pts for Gold, 2 for Silver & 1 for Bronze.
My problem with baseball is there are too small a number of countries that are compeitive and it is basically a guaranteed gold for USA forever. Compare that to cricket where there are a large number of nations who can ultimately win it.
USA have only won 1 out of 6 Olympic Baseball Golds
Blimey…..that is a surprise. 😲
Baseball is massively popular in Japan, and something of an obsession in much of central & south America. The USA aren't even completely dominant in the World Baseball classic, which is deliberately timed to be pre-season so the MLB players can take part.

Wiffen gets bronze, Finke regains his title with a world record time.
I was listening to that on the radio while driving home - it sounded astonishing. The commentators were praising the yank for his cleverness in ditching his usual sprint finish style in favour of going out fast, right up until the last length when he turned on the sprint finish despite already being ahead of world record pace. They were gob-smacked.
