Really disappointed that the Olympics are only on restricted BBC coverage, used to love watching the heats of the athletics on the red button, plus sports I wouldn't normally watch like the canoeing, or open water swimming etc. I don't think many will subscribe to Discovery+ for the Olympics alone.
If you have BT Sport, now TNT, you get Discovery+ free.
On the Andy Murray thing, yes he won “only” three Grand Slam titles during his career.
If you take the 12 year span between his first Grand Slam appearance and the major injury he suffered in 2017, 42/52 slams & Olympics titles were won by three men who are the greatest to ever play the sport - we will likely never see domination like that ever again.
The ten major honours in 12 years that weren’t won by those men were shared as below:
- Juan Martin Del Potro (1) - Andy Murray (5) - Stan Wawrinka (3) - Marin Cilic (1)
Murray quite easily the best ever British tennis player, male or female, and IMO gets into contention for best ever British sportsperson too.
Redgrave - 5 golds at 5 olympics Pinsent - 4 in 4 Chris Hoy Laura Trott Adam Peaty
a very quick 5 Olympians off the top of my head who you could argue would challenge Murray for that title..
there will be dozens over the years that would be in the same position.
And Jason Kenny. Between them, the Kennys are more successful Olympians and world title winners than a lot of countries.
I enjoyed that banter from Murray, after he was given stick by a reporter first about Scotland not being at a World Cup. He’s got a dry personality and humour which some people can’t handle.
It’s gonna be a shit show isn’t it. Completely over shadowed by protestors and tic toc mugs doing pranks I fear.
A lot of people had similar fears about London 2012, with an understandable emphasis on possible terrorist attacks. I was pretty worried about it myself right up until I sat down to watch Danny Boyle's masterpiece. Within about the first minute, everything changed.
I'm going to sit down tonight and watch their opening ceremony and hope for exactly the same.

But it was policed within an inch of it's life. I know because I was in the middle of it.
I just hope the French police are doing exactly the same & more.

All the more impressive then, that when I actually pitched up, with my Czech brother-in-law, all we encountered were smiling policemen and lots of wonderful, enthusiastic volunteers. My BiL had never been to London before, and had the time of his life, memories he treasures. The worst thing that happened was that we went down to the Tudor Barn in Eltham to watch Mo Farah in the 10k because we'd already their big screen in the garden. The twats kept the sound off because there was a wedding party in the upstairs room.
I'd like it to go like that for the Paris because the French get a bad rap from too many Brits, and they have made hugely impressive investments in stuff that will benefit Paris for years to come while not building too many new sports facilities with no future. And it's not their fault that the bloody Russians have been allowed in.

Yes, this appears to have started today. I can't see that anyone has claimed responsibility so given the country-wide coordination, it feels a bit Russian. Or maybe I'm spending too much time on Reddit.
My main interest is in the men's basketball. USA have sent a 'dream team' so are strong favourites but anything can happen over 40 minutes a game. That's on Eurosport 6, wherever the hell that is.

Usain Bolt and myself have 8 gold medals between us.

Sometimes our justice system sickens me.
