Will that automatically be played at Dulwich's ground?
It's not automatic - it's officially our home game so due to be at Dartford. But there would be a big crowd at Dulwich and it would be good experience for the players to play in front of a decent-sized crowd cheering for the opposition. I'd definitely like to see us offer to let them host it if they're willing.
Dulwich get massive crowds for their level, but the number of "passionate supporters" is pretty small.

OK, that'll have to do for the mo then. At me in once we know the details, and I'll update the title properly.

Dulwich apparently got more than 500 for their game against Orient under-21 earlier in the competition, and it was on a date that clashed with an Orient home game. Really hoping we can agree to play it at their place.

Crowds of 2000+ with about 300 people watching the game. I've only been able to bring myself there once with Welling and there were 3 women in front of me who must've done 100 quid each in the club shop. They were all facing away from the pitch and dancing along to the Welling fans singing ffs

The capacity of Champion Hill is about 3300, with no hope of developing the ground because its future is uncertain.
If it could be resolved you could easily get a neat 6000 capacity stadium there within a five minute walk of East Dulwich station.
The support is what it is, I like it personally because of the general political leaning of most of their supporters.
I hope we play our cup tie there, I will go and definitely be supporting Charlton Athletic, but I certainly wouldn’t have a finger jabbing attitude towards Dulwich Hamlet.

Watched Tonbridge there a couple of times, and went to their local derby against Tooting and Mitcham a few years back. "Hipsters from Peckham, that's what you are" was the Tooting fans' chant, and absolutely hit the nail on the head.
Nice to see a non League club doing well, and it seems to be a well run club, but too many political messages, too many hipsters, too many people who aren't really there for the football.

Champion Hill is about 15 mins walk from my house and I get there a couple times a season (Dulwich home matches often seem to clash with Charlton home games). It’s probably slightly more than 300 passionate fans, but not much. It does feel pretty inauthentic and people revelling in middle class smarminess. I often wonder what long time fans who’ve been there before the hipsters and gentrifiers turned up think of it all?

Like you I get there two or three times a season, but only when there is no clash with Charlton.
The notion that 90% of the attendees are not there for the football is at odds with my experience.
I am intrigued with your phrase ‘middle class smarminess’, and wonder how exactly that manifests itself.

I doubt somehow that the hipsters turned out to see them play Orient under-21. So they probably have at least 500 serious fans. Meanwhile we got 2000 to watch us play Chelsea under-21, 300 of those in the away end. I'm not sure we have much excuse to mock them.

Having said which, just to be clear, the reason I want to play the game there is that I think our under-21s will benefit from experience of playing in front of a decent-sized crowd that's supporting the opposition. They don't get that playing EFL under-21 sides and they won't get it at Dartford. And, with all due respect to Fisher, they didn't get much of a challenge there. We play under-21 matches so as to develop future professionals.

    Why?

The nature of their fanbase is that there are a lot of people who go there for social reasons, as much as for the football, so for many this cup competition is just as attractive as a regular league game. Plus Orient U21s are a glamour tie when compared to most Isthmian Premier opposition.

That's exactly the type of game hipsters turn out for 😂. Their crowds are never there for the opposition so why would it change then?

Whilst well run, Hamlet are not doing well on the pitch. Having been relegated two seasons ago they have struggled and are possibly in a relegation fight this season. They sacked the manager two weeks ago and are yet to see a manager bounce. Plans to shift and rebuild the stadium are floundering. Despite all of this the crowds have held up.

I'd say the core is around 1,000 to 1,500. That tended to be the leeks of attendance when " they were shit".

I'd expect about the same if Charlton did play the quarter-final there, maybe a bit more. It'd be a relief from Dulwich's dire league form.

I don't often go to Saturday home matches at Champion Hill now because of the sheer number of day-trippers (without a rich benefactor, the club needs the cash). Granted, if you get there early and bag a seat, it's all good, but then that's not much different from going to a league match. All that said, the actual fanbase - as opposed to people going there as an alternative to Frank's rooftop bar in Peckham - does appear to have grown quite a bit over the past few years, though I don't know how that's  reflected in season ticket sales.

We should have played the u21 team against Wrexham at home then.

The London FA website is suggesting that the game will be at Dulwich Hamlet. No date is given so until it's confirmed I'm not sure I'll take that as 100% certain.
  • The quarter-final tie will be played on Tuesday 25th February. Venue not yet announced, but probably at Dulwich.
  • Yes, it will be at Dulwich Hamlet's ground. kick off 7.45.

Might go to this, how much are tickets for this cup usually?
  • Tickets for the match against Leyton Orient in November were £5. Last year's final (also at Champion Hill) was £10.
