Anybody know what the "stonewall penalty" Jones is referring to was all about?
I was in the Reading end near the other goal, and i can tell you that Reading should have had one after the Mannion cock-up.0 -
Won’t get to down about it. No team goes without a defeat or poor performance here and there. Actually expected the over reaction of some especially on Facebook. Jeez I’m sure life must be a barrel of laughs for some of them!!
The Bolton win was no different to the way this game was going yet everyone was tickety boo because we won. A wonder strike on the break was a massive kick in the nuts during a period when we looked to have a stranglehold on the game. Then LJ having a leave of his senses caused the second. Goals win games but at this level you generally see most scored due to errors of some sort. Today they were ours but considering we had made none in the previous 3 games maybe they were due. It’s all about how we bounce back. had we struck first we would have definitely gone on to win imo.As for today as a whole I thought Cov Doc & Gillesphy were decent but too many others below par, not terrible but not quite on it. It happens. NJ did change the system late on going 433 with Kanu coming on. Was too late to change the outcome but at least shows he’s not so rigid as to stick to 532 regardless.Onwards and upwards. It’s a long season!Maybe time to rest Gas and see if he can affect the game from the bench. Maybe TC too. Personally I’d start Godden and Chuks (who has shown no signs of fragility yet) and see how that pans out4 -
I didn't follow the game today, but that's a really disappointing result. We need to be picking up points at places like Reading if we hope to be in the promotion question this season.
NJ's interview makes me feel a little better, I love his passion "raging my nut off" 😂2 -
Why did Berry go off so early? Injury or tactical?0

It was frustrating that their first goal came when we were on top and had them on the ropes and worrying that we looked so clueless thereafter.0

As good as that first goal is, we gave him far too much time. Second goal is as bad defending as we had at times last season.

It probably happened in the five minute period where the stream died and we were all over them, if I had to guess.1
-
The performance and outcome I’ve been fearing from the first 3 games…
However good you are you just can’t be so defensive game in and game out and expect to never concede, certainly at this level it will happen and you need to be able to attack and be dangerous and control periods of matches albeit the irony of today was our Best period was right before their goal
IMO today was very, very similar to the Wigan game
overall we need to play better for more of the time, be more dangerous and, sadly for those who hate it, have a higher XG !!It’s too tiring to chase the other teams around all season and you can’t defend your way to victory.I’m grateful and happy that we are trying to build from the back and be more solid than recent seasons, but we need to attack and threaten teams and be on the front foot more3 -

No proper striker. No goals. No promotion. May's loss egregious.6

As for the rest of the game…. first time I’ve actually seen us ‘live’ this season: not impressed with Adhame; frustrating that ref pulled back for a fk when TC looked through; 2nd goal shocking - terrible game management. From my my view it was deffo our throw, but regardless if the ref gives it you don’t just hand them the ball when we have no cover0 -

1. He gives them a bollocking, they accept it, they roll up their sleeves, get on with it, put in a battling performance against Rotherham and get back on track.
2. He gives them a bollocking and it's Stoke and Southampton all over again.
He really is a character, Nathan Jones. I really like that he has high standards but in this current football-world of player rule I worry that he is too old-school.3 -
I was there today - 1st half dreadful - gave them space - closing down was absent - how we went into half time 0-0 heaven only knows - 2nd half, they clearly got a new A Hole torn by Jones at h/t - much better - then Coventry mistake and a stunning goal by Savage - but we still were in control, until an abysmal piece of defending sees them 2-0
My thoughts
At least my burger at half time was pretty good1 -
We have no creativity, no real impetus to score a goal. Our worst fears about the vulnerabilities of this squad came home to roost today and it’s not good. I wish this game had happened the day before the transfer window closed rather than the day after it “slammed shut”.4

Callumcafc said:Rather lose 4-2 than 2-0. How many times do promotion winning teams give up 4 goals in a game?
I really must stop doing this week & after week......but until someone can show me a league table that is based on clean sheets rather than scoring goals I'll keep banging on about it.
As I said......league tables go in this order.
Points
Goal difference
Goals scored.
If they went
Points
Goal difference
Clean sheets.
Then I'd agree with everyone & shut up. But they don't.
I promise this will be my last word. Just does my head in that people cant comprehend this.

He gets so high when we win, and so low when we lose, and that's concerning to me. This feels like Soton Jones. Da fire and da pashon is all well and good as long as you are still in control. I worry about his ability to maintain this over an entire season.0 -

Felt a bit short changed with this one.
Back down to earth with a giant bump, I guess it was always going to happen at some point.
I thought we were awful all over the pitch.
I don’t think I’d seen us win away from home for 2 years, and foolishly thought today would be the day.
It was like watching us play like last seasons performance, thought the high press was virtually non existent, like the players didnt fancy it, or believe in it anymore.Oh well, onto the next one, whenever that will be.0 -

We were lead to believe we would be playing with wingbacks this season, where are they?
A wingback gets forward, beat’s a couple of defenders and whips a cross in which Ahadme should be feeding off.
Not happening
Wingbacks need to be able to cross. Preferably like wingers of ore who crossed on the run. Forwards can then run onto the ball & power it into the net. Not cutting back & drinking in a cross. Easy to defend.
Football has gone downhill over the past 20 years imo. Blame Pep or tikka tacka or whoever you like, but wingplay as we know it seems to be dead. We dont all have Harland or KDB.
Pah.....I'm off to watch some mindless tv.

Point is mentioning 4 in 4 Alfie May alongside Fraser and before in your post is extremely unfair and just pointless

No doubt our attacking play and goalscoring need to improve, but being strong defensively is also very important.

Shame we had to start the game with two players who were feeling ill. Is that a sign of lack of squad depth? Must be I guess. No need for panic though. We’ll get back to winning ways next week. 🤞0
