Alfie May- Progress at Birmingham
Comments

All this talk is a bit bizarre at this point, Alfie wanted to go and he has got his wish. He is being paid a packet and a half, will win something which his career to date deserves and probably spend a season or two in the championship good on him. The lad got what he wanted and has been proven right by his decision to leave.
Equally Jones, who clearly wasnt the biggest fan of May, has also been proven right by the fact we are a better team this season than we were last season and its completely quantifiable also unarguable. Jones believed we would be a better team without Alfie and we are.
Everybody wins.1 -

How could he not be in Jones' plans after all the goals he scored last season?
Unless you one of the flat earthers who clearly believe Alfie was being threatened with a gun off camera and made to read a script.0 -

There are too many Lifers, some of whom I know personally with a different version of events.
We are a better team than the one Alfie May played in. It does not follow that it is better because he is not in it. Indeed, it remains an open question whether we would not be even better (certainly in current league standing) if we had kept him and insisted that Jones shows some more flexible people-management skills. You know, like not bawling out tall-poppy 20 year old kids at the end of a game in full view of team-mates and fans, for making one mistake in a grand total of 90 seconds on the pitch.4 -

Yes a lot here who have also provided ZERO evidence. even when the contrary evidence supports the arguments Alfie put out there.
This side is better than last year because the team is better and Alfie isnt in the team. Yes hypothetically one could argue that If may was here we could be better we could also be a lot worse (again hypothetically). Perhaps under Jones Stockley would be a POTY contender, who knows. What is unarguable is Jones wasnt massively keen on Alfie and thought we could be a better team without him, May has left and we are a better team.1 -

Alfie May 10 (192 mins per goal)
Matt Godden 12 (148 mins per goal)11 -
Alfie hasn’t scored since 4th January and some Birmingham fans getting on his back about it now.0

12 games without a goal. The bad thing for him is he didn't capitalise when Stansfield and Dykes were out which won't have helped his standing among the staff and fans. A 12 game dry patch isn't unlike him, but he hasn't had the usual red hot extended streaks inbetween; he scored 4 in his first 4 but since then he's only scored in consecutive games once. Alfie is a player who needs to be loved where he is and he's very much a spare part in this Birmingham side. I do feel bad for him no matter how much he's getting paid2

Perhaps he’s gone soft after collecting his wages.0

Don't think he's got that much to be miserable about.0 -

He will be unhappy though. He'll be satisfied with the money but Alfie likes to be the main man, likes to feel important and likes to be getting the adulation from the stands. He can get very sulky when things don't go his way and his confidence can disappear pretty quickly. For all football fans are incapable of accepting people earning a lot of money can still be pissed off he'll be annoyed that two more strikers were brought in over him after he signed and that he didn't contribute as much as he would have wanted to the title win. Still, 10 games left so if he goes on another one of his scoring streaks he could still end up with 15 goals and it'll look a bit brighter2

Also forgot that Birmingham are in the EFL trophy final as well so he's got another chance of a medal there. Not bad for a guy who was playing for Hythe Town 8 years ago.4

Perhaps what NJ might not be fully aware of is just how scarred we are as a fanbase. From Izale McLeod in 07/08 to Freddie Ladapo to last season we’ve seen so many strikers come and go who were supposed to fire us to promotion or save us from relegation. So few lived up to expectations.7

If Godden scores more than 23 league goals then NJ might have a point. Thus far he's on 12.9

Unless he told you this?7 -
Fair play to Nathan Jones for saying something like that, loads of us doubted the wisdom or in my case saw it as a massive call that if it didn't pay off would haunt him (polite way of saying I doubted him too) didn't help that I have loved watching Alfie May score goals since he played for Quested and wanted us to have signed him for a long time.1

Garrymanilow said:Scoham said:Our strikeforce would undoubtedly be better for having May still with us alongside our other strikers, but Godden has been outstanding and in particular since Christmas and Jones has every right to point that out because he’s copped a lot of abuse.6
