I'd love Nathan in his post match interview to say:
"In terms of stuff, I'd love to say what I want about the ref bit I can't because I'd be fined and banned. The good news is, in terms of stuff that I can think it without punishment ... and I think that, in terms of stuff this was one of the mist disgraceful refereeing performances I've ever seen in senior mens football."
Very poor team selection today. Think it’s atrocious that Taylor was not rewarded for a good performance on Tuesday Tayo too for that matter. Think jones really needs to sit down and have a think about his selection
You know if they'd just kept playing I'd have said fair play to them. They outclassed us most of the first half and deserved it
But that has to be THE most shocking display of time wasting I've ever seen. Honestly, if we did that, to that degree, I'd be embarrassed.
By the time we managed to remember how to play a game again it was too late.
I think I need to sort out going up there for our game now because I want to be there when we kick seven shades out of them*
Hope the ref enjoys his lift home on their coach.
*Yes, I know this could end up going drastically wrong.
Only team to match them for that style of play was when Oxford did it at the Valley a few years ago under Robinson - Was probably even worse that day, as they were 3-0 / 4-0 up before HT and just destroyed us
Think all the time wasting was a credit to how we were playing for the last 15 mins + extra time. The issue is we were atrocious for too long and left it ages to step up the tempo. We’re so pedestrian and predictable, when we play quicker defences struggle to handle us
What a difference a game can make. After Tuesday it was all about how good our depth is, how much people wanted to see a back 3 of REG, A Mitchell and Zach Mitchell, and that positivity was warranted, we were good against Cambridge with a full second 11. Today though we were poor, REG didn't show up, we made changes and none of them worked.
I think Jones got a few things wrong today. I'm not sure if the REG switch was enforced or not but he's not done himself any favours. Playing ACampbell alongside Docherty was a bizarre choice. They're the same player, we normally put Anderson or Berry in that spot to push on and press high, with one adding more of a goal threat and the other more chance of winning it off a defender, but ACampbell and Docherty together is too pedestrian. I continue to be disappointed by Docherty and other than a decent goal (where to be honest he had better pass options on but it went in) I haven't seen him do anything yet. ACampbell didn't exactly set his stall out to replace him though. I also think it was the worst game to play Kanu instead of TC. Blackpool pressed aggressively and left gaps in behind but we didn't have our quickest player there to exploit it. It meant that in defence, midfield and up front we didn't have our best foot forward and we suffered for it.
We were undone in the end by 4 stupid minutes where we let them in and of course Morgan was the one to score, that's just the way it goes. From here I'll be interested to see what happens with the midfield. Docherty got hauled off and he's got the armband but his days must be numbered in terms of putting in this level of performance. He's meant to knit things together and push us on higher but he hasn't got the hang of it. Plenty of time but he has to show something soon or Jones is going to flense him. As always, if the players aren't aggressive and focused out of the gate we look awful, and this one of those occasions. Bad day.
Well Alfie didn’t score but Stansfield did…think Brum will be team to beat this year
We're a bit fortunate really that this was a weekend where apart from the top two and Barnsley... Everyone has had a bit of a shocker in theirs of results - Defeat will happen a few more times yet this season, but god it needs to be done from a better performance than today.
How on earth did we end up with 12 mins of added time second half?
It was 13.48. And should have been 15. More shithousery after the 12 were announced.
But as @seth plum, sitting behind me said, how do you change the rules to stop it?
Yeah unfortunately this season we've seen a massive change to how teams approach delaying games, past seasons and its nearly always players just taking their time with set pieces, Goalkeepers getting booed to hell whilst they take Goal Kicks.
Incidents like that now, happen a lot less, because they know they'll get booked. Of course its still a risk going down faking an injury, as you have to go off for 30secs, maybe that time needs extending to really weed out the fakers, but then you're just hurting the teams who dont time waste in that matter, and have lumps kicked out of them.
Have to say though, not a bad performance second half. Clear handball pen missed by the hopeless ref. Their keeper made a great save from Lloyd Jones. Nathan Jones still learning loads about this team. Weirdly not too disheartened after that. The play acting by Blackpool was as pathetic as the ref was bad.
Really? We have 4 attacking midfielders, ACampbell, Docherty, Anderson and Berry who between them have not dominated one single game this season, nor look like doing so, nor created opportunities for the forwards. How is that going to change? Forget the reffing, we allowed Blackpool to take control of the game and run it how they liked. The only bright spot today was Tyreece after we went 433, but we have no wingers other than him in the squad. We looked worse than last season for most of the game.
Does anybody on here honestly think that whichever players we change for next week, we will play any better than today? Sorry NJ, you will have to start leaving some of your mates out of the starting 11
Midfield really poor today, although Coventry comfortably the best of the 3. Looked much better when Berry was on. Hope to see Taylor given a chance.
The problem is Taylor would play in place of Coventry. If today should have showed people anything it's that playing two players who do the same thing in the same team makes a mess, as Campbell and Docherty proved. In fact, you only have to go back to last season to see how bad Taylor looked alongside Dobson, or how bad Coventry did for that matter. I really don't want to see us play with two holders, if you think we aren't cohesive now just wait until that happens
abysmal. Jones needs to realise this is football not cross country running, you need to be able to do something with the ball show quality and play the game you can’t rely on running alone , ahadme the shining example of that. Utter utter toilet, the fact he left it so long to bring Aneke on was also shocking and possibly cost us a point
that was the most frustrating game I can recall for many a year with the Blackpool bollocks and appalling refereeing making no attempt to put a stop to it, the not given penalty also a disgrace. That said, I hope Jones doesn’t point fingers or moan at others for this result because it was self inflicted, you give Blackpool the lead like that you offer them the right to piss about like that.
And this shows sadly why XG is relevant, you need to be able to create chances to score goals, we had half time and the whole opportunity to throw the kitchen sink at it and created hardly anything, needing their goalkeeper to give us an assist to score.
long rethink on tactics needed , great that were generally now more solid and clearly that was essential but evidence shows you also need to be able to score goals and attack to get promoted , every single promotion side we have ever had has been able to do both, I’d be interested to know how many teams in history have got promoted scoring an average of 1 goal a game
We continually bypass a weak midfield to knock it long to an ineffective attacking two. We’re not good enough to compete at the top, with only the Bolton match to point to in terms of a good performance in the first seven league games. We’re way off where we need to be for promotion.
The reality is we are upper mid table which is improvement on last seasons lower mid table. If progress is the measure, then that's it. Unfortunately our improved defence was not at the game to day. We got our usual single goal, but that's not going or be enough over the course of the season.
First half, we made Pool look like Citeah. They really played 'that good' to our 'that bad' with 0-2 flattering us.
Pool's early season form belies the talent in the midfield. They bossed us with ease and we had no resistance. So what do we do. Jonesball continues with lump after lump up the pitch to nobody. On 70 minutes Chuks and Godden stepped forward, unfortunately, this ref was have none of the shenanigans, hence 12.minutes were added for foul after foul and even if it wasn't a foul, Pool players laid out on the pitch like clubbed seals (time, after time, after time). That extra time was added after extra time, says all you need to know. The ref was poor, we were worse.
Jones has a conundrum. Not who should be dropped, but who should be kept. If Jones blames the ref for the result, he's deluded. Nothing unlucky about that result.
We were crap. I think our fans boo'd the ref at the end and clapped Pool fans.
I just don't understand why we play a 3 man midfield if we don't use them in possession. An extra pass in midfield would give the WB's time to get forward while still being on the move. We are so so easy to defend against
A very poor display with some strange decisions by the Manager and some awful performances. Starting Daniel Kanu when you have other options is baffling, where was Mitchell ? Surely injured. The system of wing backs got found out very quickly as our midfield were chasing shadows in the first half. Docherty and Allan Campbell were all over the place and not in a good way, should have been hauled off at half time. Got to feel for Thierry Small today, taken off to change the system shortly after a goal saving challenge. On top of everything else, the second 45 or even 60 was a succession of long balls into the box, only when we got the ball to Tyreece Campbell did we look dangerous. Fair play to Steve Bruce he got it bang on but I think Nathan Jones preferred wing back system and the lack of creation caused by those wing backs not getting forward is now looking very dodgy.
Shit from the players, shit from the manager, add in an absolute c**t of a referee and that's what you get. How can a defence which has looked so organised fall utterly to pieces with one bloke removed from it?
So many woeful performances, out gunned in midfield when we had an overload is a disgrace. TBF, when you consider the performances of Campbell and Doherty Coventry was effectively playing on his own. Campbell looked so unfit it's was farcical, he should be nowhere near the team on that showing.
REG was utterly shit. If Mitchell is going to be missing then Potts needs to come in. Hoping that Edwards comes in next game. If he was fit enough for the bench in midweek, why isn't he in the match day squad today? Gillesphey looked a mess and was back to the car crash we saw last year.
I genuinely feel sorry for Ahadme. Despite the OG he played ok today. He gets no service and is expected to link up with a different player every week.
The performance was summed up by our goal. The worst defence in the league and we could only score when the keeper effectively chucked it in his own net.
Anyone know how long Mitchell is out for? Really missed him in defence - don't think REG won a single header all game. Don't rate Gillesphey much either and he's certainly not a left back. As for the midfield, the 2 sweaty socks were so so poor that even Karoy looked miles better when he came on!
Yes the ref was useless and Blackpool were a horrible time wasting bunch of cheats but we really look poor as a team and I can't see us challenging for promotion with this squad.

The ref was crap but im not falling into the trap of blaming him for the loss. We were awful in the first half and deservedly 2 down. We were better in the 2nd and though the constant play acting had an impact, we really didnt create a lot of clear cut chances to threaten getting something from the game. Their keeper had to make 1 maybe 2 big saves in the second half? We should have been battering that goal in the 12+ minutes of injury time.
Comments
Blackpool killed the game second half, and the ref fell for it completely. Must have feigned an injury after every bit of contact.
And he even stuffed that up last time.

Players know now that if they go down clutching their head the ref will stop play.
Don't ask me what the answer is though.

The result might be better though with an improved defense.

On to next Saturday, it can't be worse!!
