6 teams below us have a game in hand. Our real position is probably 7th or 8th.
We have 2 away games & then 4 very tough matches. We are already 1 point below the "2 points a game" mantra. Unless we start producing football that ends in us scoring goals then I can't see us keeping pace with the front runners for too much longer.
Sorry, but selling Alfie May & bringing in players to play a system that produces very little is not looking very good atm.
We should check Birmingham's bench and see if there's any players on there who could...oh.
Awful ref and disgraceful time wasting by Blackpool.
But our complete lack of creativity really showed today. You won't get promoted by keeping it tight and hoping to nick a goal, as at some point you will give away a silly goal and then have to chase the game.
We looked more dangerous when we switched to 433 and made some subs but our tactics basically are 1) lump it forward and hope for a knockdown, or 2) give it to Tyreece.
A Campbell and Docherty were a hopeless combination in midfield, creating nothing but not good defensively either. I'm not 100% convinced by Berry, but at least he does try and get into the box. The lack of guilt in midfield really shows though.
Pretty good summing up really.
I said last week that even though we'd won, the performance wasn't good. And it wasn't. Even then, there were some who said the performance didn't matter, it was all about the result.
Well today has surely proved that isn't right.
Jones has surely got some thinking to do tonight after another pretty dire performance. (And, as you say, he can't just blame the ref or Blackpool's time wasting for that performance). And that performance just follows on from a whole series of drab ones. He needs to have a huge re-think about his tactics because this style of football certainly isn't going to get us into the top 6, let alone the automatic places.
I think some of our chickens came home to roost today.
Whilst we’ve been fairly successful beating bottom half opposition so far this season, the warning signs of having very little creativity and almost no cutting edge in front of goal in this squad have been there. Today, fairly early on, we found ourselves in the nightmare scenario of requiring at least two goals to get anything from the match. When you have neither creativity nor someone who can score a goal from nothing finding at least two goals becomes a very tall order.
We were better with the subs on the pitch, but it was probably already too late by the 36th minute once we were 2-0 down for the reasons previously given. I’m not really sure what can be done now because the structure of the squad is set so we need to trust the N Jones can get the best from the fairly large squad he has assembled. I really hope it doesn’t become a lesson in quantity over quality.
The moment I saw Charles Breakspear on the Blackpool teamsheet i knew we would be in trouble against their twelve man team. Since 2019 we have only won an EFL trophy match when he was on the other side. Good thing that Steve Bruce managed to bring him on board so soon after taking over.
Yes we were poor in the first half but their defender Breakspear ensured we got nothing when we were pulled back or wrestled to the ground and managed to claim many free kicks for the Blackpool side which meant we never had time to settle our Mitchell less defence. When NJ changed things around, CB continued to win free kicks for his side and ensured that the fourth official (a referee was missing) did not get to see the penalty claims we had, a hand ball in the box and Lloyd Jones being pulled over. Yes we were poor first half but outnumbered for the whole match.
Another manager coming in and putting all his eggs in one basket for one formation only. These useless idiots will never learn. We have signed shit from Swindon didn’t work. Still signing shit from Ipswich doesn’t work. Now signing shit from luton doesn’t fucking work. Something that worked for jones 3-4 years ago doesn’t mean they are gonna be any good this tome around. Pants managers with no clue.

We went from 3-5-2 to 4-3-3 today, with the switch in formation bringing us back into the game, whilst it was one of those "Luton" signings who got us back into the game?

Haha... I do love CharltonLife, when these classic lines such as our real position in the League gets trotted out
This finally proves you are a WUM. Unless you think teams playing a game in hand wont produce any points.

And we don’t have the players to play 4-3-3 ffs. Mis match of shit ffs. I’m not getting into arguments with you again you prove every season you ain’t got a clue ffs
If the wing backs are not supplying anything and on a day when the midfield (except Coventry) decide to go awol then we really don't stand a chance.
Nathan certainly has a few issues at present as there appears to be nobody that can simply put there foot on the ball and make a perfect pass.
Onto Stevenage next who by the way had no shots on goal today so that augers well!
Expect a few changes but as an aside I met a couple of Hull Season ticket holders this week who were less than complementary about Docherty.... I even think they felt sorry for us!
Let's hope Nathan can sort this but it's looking at this early stage that you need some serious money to get out of this league and for all the hype I don't think some of signings have been exactly marquee.

The two teams immediately below us with games in hand (Huddersfield and Stockport) were both at home today and lost 1-3 to Northampton and 1-4 to Orient.
You acting like them winning games in hand is a foregone conclusion is closer to WUM behaviour than anything FA said.
Its simply no use blaming the ref or time wasting. If we were good enough we would overcome that and win. Blackpool are mid table and we lost to them. Do people on here really think refs are biased against Charlton. Refs in L1 are not as good as those in Championship and so on but if we fail this season refs will have had nothing to do with it.
Spot on GeoffB, yes we know they were play acting but if the ref plays on in any of those situations and there is a head injury, then he would never referee again. I actually thought the Ref did OK.

My worry is that our approach to both home and away fixtures seems to be quite similar. Away I'm ok with just keeping it tight and trying to nick a goal, don't think there's a problem with that approach as the variability in conditions can make it difficult to play good football.
At home though we need to be more expansive, we can't just have the starting XI there to not concede and wear the opposition down, waiting for the subs to actually finish the job. We need to be front footed for 90 minutes.
I think at home either we give the wingbacks more licence to get forward or change the shape.

But surely he can spot when someone goes down with what should be a leg injury but clutches their head instead? He was conned time and time again.

Two of those teams face each other in their game in hand, one of them plays the Blackpool team who just beat us, another plays Birmingham and Lincoln play Northampton who are currently 12th. Obviously doesn't work this way as they aren't all played at once but I'd expect us still to be in the playoffs if all those fixtures were played this midweek.
Big dose of charlton disappointment even though I fully expected a defeat. Sheer effort and defensive qualities (absent today) aren't enough. We got done by a footballing side and expect it to happen again and again.
The one silver lining Morgan to score and Blackpool to win @16/1. And I have already spent my winnings on a hot dog and cup of tea.
Footballs a simple game, you play your best 11, that starting line up was not our best 11. I get it’s a squad that wins promotion but you use a squad for game management. Jones got it wrong today.
Written on train some time ago on the train. Bit less angry now, but posting anyway.
Classic game of two halves. First was awful. We started ok, but weren’t creating any chances, and our possession became increasingly scrappy.
Mitchell was a huge miss. The defense looked disconnected, and REG lacks Mitchell’s solidity and positional know how.
I know shithousery is fashionable at the moment, but that was a disgrace of a display by Blackpool in the second half. The referee was totally ineffective, and endlessly awarded them free kicks for synchronised falling over, while ignoring the time wasting. The awarding of 12 minutes extra time was probably three of four minutes short of what it should have been.
We’d all have loved a last minute equaliser, but frustratingly, it wasn’t to be.
We need both Mitchells back from injury ASAP, and we need to get more minutes out of Chuks. We have too many average players (Ramsey, both Michells, Chuks and Jones excepted), and although Nathan Jones has made us harder to beat I don’t expect even staying in the playoff positions to be straightforward.
The gesture by their goalkeeperto the covered end at the final whistle should be reported to the FA. Cheating is one thing, that would get any fan banned.

We're all a bit pissed off with your boys and their cheating and time wasting atm.
That’ll definitely not derail the entire squad after our best start to a season in years

Still, only 10 more wins needed for safety!
Sorry... Couldn't resist after today's debacle.

Choose the permutations
Ahadme was better first half but he's not a centre forward. He has no pace and no balance.
Our midfield lakes a creative spark. We have two players that can arrive late in the box but no ingenuity.
Lloyd Jones is our captain. He's leading by example now.
Doherty/Berry/Campbell...... all a bit meh.... not bad but not good.
Anderson was better than them today when he came on.
REG. No.
Our right back is a different quality.
The goalkeeper is pretty decent considering Nathan wants him as our number 2.
Blackpool players are a disgrace. Steve Bruce - you should be ashamed.
