He arrived in Feb having been actively looking for Champ / L1 work for a few months. So he’s not come in cold from overseas. had a long run of monitoring these levels.Going into the summer he had months to assess the capabilities, strengths and weaknesses of all individuals in our squad, and a first hand working knowledge of L1 and what is required to be successful. He was given a budget better than most. I was convinced we were going to have a successful season as I thought we were months ahead of the curve with our planning and resources. What’s been compiled has been a disaster. There’s clear squad balance things that need to be readdressed in January. Would you trust Jones further to bring in more of ‘his’ players?I wouldn’t on what I’ve seen. He needs results desperately over the next few weeks otherwise I think an early decision needs to be made before the Jan window. We all wanted him to succeed and I suspect we all still do. But there needs to be some big improvement soon otherwise we are in for another damaging 2nd half of season nothingness and even further away from making NEXT season successful.1

No manager gets it right 100% of the time. The key question for me is whether Nathan Jones recognises his mistakes. If he’s willing to address the imbalances in future windows, it might be worth sticking with him. But if he’s going to keep painting the wall the same colour, then maybe it’s time for a change.6

The really worrying thing is that I think Jones has no idea how terrible the football is. He just thinks that he hasn't had the rub of the green and that if he stubbornly sticks to his long ball guns it will eventually pay off.5

Alas I think the football has got even worse and these major signings with championship reputations and big experience just haven't panned out at all. I'll give him Alex Mitchell, Edwards and Godden as summer arrivals that have at least shown they'll be good signings.
I just don't know where this goes - he's too stubborn to change the style of play , i don't expect us to suddenly be a buccaneering 433 with Dixon and TC flanking Leaburn as we pass teams off the pitch with 40 pass moves but the current style of play is some of the worst I've seen. I also wonder how long his methods will last with the players before they suss him out like Southampton and Stoke did.
I really don't want to be back on the managerial merry-go-round again because it makes the club look like a laughing stock but Jones has to turn this around and fast. If Jones doesn't turn this around then I expect Scott and Rodwell to go with him because it's been a complete disaster recruitment wise both managerially and on the player front.0 -

I do think the 'only hires his old mates for the team' thing is overblown massively on here. Potts and Hylton were brought in as primarily a coach and a backup who was there to cover for the fact Jones wasn't allowed to sign an actual proper replacement for Gillesphey. We wouldn't have seen Hylton if we hadn't had injuries to Leaburn, TC, Kanu, Chuks and Ahadme at various times, and even then he's just been a last roll of the dice when we're losing. Really it's just Berry and ACampbell in terms of proper first teamers. Berry, like everyone else, isn't dominating games but he's our second top scorer this season and he's pretty much fulfilling his role of sometime starter and impact player. Remember first game Anderson was picked over him. It's ACampbell who is the real disappointment. He was again brought in as another option in the midfield, an alternative to the three that was meant to be Coventry, Docherty and Anderson/Berry. He had a poor loan at Millwall but dropping down to L1 should have been fine. It hasn't been, he's really struggled. It's hardly the case that we've just gone out and signed all Jones' old players like people would like it to be though. If anything, you can look at the signings of ACampbell and the other two and start to think that quite early on Jones felt he wasn't getting the response from the players he was hoping for. He talked the signings of Potts and Hylton up for their attitudes more than anything else and even at the time that felt telling. That's the worrying part, we're not pressing like we should, the players aren't doing what they're asked and Jones can't influence them to even with his role models dotted about the place. That's the troubling aspect, not that Hylton has made a few sub appearances6

We would'nt have seen him as a coach either if his mate Jones wasn't here.

A lot of us would take poor football with decent results. The issue is poor football and poor results which seems to be what we are getting at the moment.4

I thought that's what we were in for after first couple of games. Win ugly but win.0 -
Now you can really see why stoke and Southampton got rid of him, if this is the football they played8
-
He's created the worst Charlton midfield I've ever seen. That's quite an achievement when you've been handed the 4th biggest budget in the league.4

There is a process. Time will tell but IMO we need to stick with a manager and enjoy the journey. I'll still be Charlton whatever happens. Need the lows to appreciate the highs. TC and Leaburn credit to the club tonight. COYA1

But when I see the young players creating and influencing then that is a positive. When I see a reaction from some poor results, then that is a positive. Clearly Jones has the players support, and I know it took a while to click at Luton so he also needs to improve. But I know he did wonders at Luton, so he has the ability, but he needs the support to achieve that. Perhaps we need to see and give him the chance, They are all humans and I'll give him time to find the right pieces for the jigsaw. If it takes a couple of seasons so be it. I just hope if he does achieve it, the club and structure is built alongside.I would love it to be this season, and who knows. But Jones knows how to get promoted and how to get players to work for him, so he has my support while he is the manager of our club.3

I hope more then anyone that we can turn a corner and kick on, but in all honestly a load of you need a head wobble, we just scraped through against probably one of the worst league one teams we have ever come up against and to make things worse they only had 10 men for 25 mins of the game. More clueless tactics from the weird geezer on the sideline. 3 points feel like a releif at the minute but we wont be picking up much more points playing the same old shit we have done in recent times.
@ForeverAddickted You forgot to mention Bonne in as well3 -

There's not a manager in the land that will get a tune out of this bunch. And I cant see these owners sticking their hands in their pockets for thier third fresh start in two seasons!1

I've no idea really. But from the outside they ran a round alot and tried hard. Perhaps we a just in a shite patch. It happens, I have them all the time.

As long we aren’t properly in a relegation battle fully expect Jones to stay for the remained of the season.
Going to repeat the boring line of we can’t just keep sacking manager, at some point we have to stick with someone. Don’t think anyone is happy with current set-up and the turgid football, but feel like we aren’t anywhere near sacking territory IMO.13
