Game changing sub from Jones ..he deserves a lot of credit
Hardly. He deliberately went defensive at the end of normal time with his subs, and we still conceded anyway. Then waited until the end of extra time to try and change things. Indeed he probably only brought Ahadme on to take a penalty.
Blushes saved by some proper non league goalkeeping. A totally unacceptable performance. Jones had full autonomy in the summer and has somehow built a more lightweight midfield than we had last season.

Mannion not at fault for any of the goals but made one world class save that in the end got us through..

I dipped in and out of the match via the BBC, Charlton Life and Radio Essex. When they went 3 3 I turned all systems off, stared into space and prepared for disappointment. Now that we've won I don't quite know what to do ... I'll be OK in an hour or two
An all too rare a luxury of saying ‘just home’ 35 mins after the end of the game
Cant actually decide whether we were our usual shit show in cups type performance or that for once we actually didn’t quite roll over and ended up nicking a very undeserved win
As Charlton fans, we all knew when we passed on a chance to make it 3-0 that it wasn't going to be comfortable. At least we won. The expected outcome was losing that on pens. It isn't a new thing, it has been going on for years. Today was better than usual.
I feel like this would all be much funnier if we hadn't put our first team out. If we'd fiddled it about a bit, played some kids and tried some weird stuff it's easier to take the win but sending out the full first team and still not controlling the midfield and still getting progressively worse at the back is fairly troubling. Still, a nice moment for Ahadme and something for us and him to enjoy together so hopefully that will get some people to give him a break
Listening whilst having a shower to Charlton commentary and burst in to a chorus of oooooh Gassan Ahadme oooooh Gassan Ahadme … and gave myself a couple of tugs on the the old boy to celebrate 😳
We saw last night with Huddersfield and Tamworth that these games aren't easy. Not sure why Northampton at home to Kettering is a better tie than this one was to put on tv. Surely you have to look at the lower league side playing at home.
I missed my flight from Copenhagen having travelled a few hours to get there, not checking the flight time. You'd think I might be a bit more organised, taking 30 odd flights a year, so I had to come back to Sweden. On the up side, another evening with the dogs and the wife, the downside a few hundred quid out of pocket.
First world problems.
Ahh well Charlton beat the 'not-quite-so-mighty' Southend and the winner is scored by arguably the most unlikely scorer in the club's history! Keep it up big lad.

Good weekend all 👊
I have just checked and the 2nd round isn't played at Wembley 😕
BUT the Bristol street motors Trophy final is 😀
Not the game, I’ve just been in the amusement park.

Credit to Southend thought they were excellent

In Jones we (have some) trust.
