If Kanu is going out on loan I'd want a striker to go with our 2 potential midfield signings. Too much reliance there on Aneke,Ahadme and Leaburn all staying fit.
don't we have a couple of young strikers who play for the same team Kanu came from?
Think Mbick is still injured , Casey is working his way back from injury and Dixon I'm not convinced is ready.
Yep if we loan out Kanu it should only be because we’ve replaced with better. Those three don’t offer that.

Absolutely agree. I'm on the fence about loaning him out anyway because of the amount of injury prone strikers we have but if the opportunity comes up to upgrade the options up front then I'd be happy to loan him out.

Rodriguez is 36 in the summer and he's not exactly been prolific for a while. That's a big wage for a non goalscoring forward.
Yes, our non goalscoring forward (Ahadme) is probably on less however I believe he has a 4 year contract so doubt there is much in it
  • Have we ever had next to no rumours like we've had this window? I know we will probably get 1 in but we need 3 defo. No 10, winger and a LCB should have been our priorities.
  • I said on page 2 that unless we sell Leaburn we won’t sign anyone……….,

    Tick, Tock!!!

    Wrexham signed Jay Rodriguez
They have excellent striking options, Sam Smith, Paul Mullin, Jay Rodriguez, Ollie Palmer, Jack Marriott, Steven Fletcher.

Hunter Davies must be a CL reader. From his column in this week's New Statesman: 'I can still hardly believe that in 1974 Carlisle United, one of nature's lowly Third Division North teams, made it into the top tier. Even more amazing, when they beat Spurs 1-0, they went to the very top of the top league. Honestly, I still have the league table pinned on my wall in front of me.

'OK, it was only after three games. At the end of the season they got demoted; tumbled down the leagues to the bottom - where they are now unlikely to remain in the Football League (sob, sob).'

I think he should be loaned out for his own sake - he played a lot last year and hardly at all this - a call back clause was in place last time so same again

Its worth remembering that whilst there have been no leaks, there are signs that the club are surely trying to do something - I cant imagine Nathan Jones skipping out on the post-match interview last week, because his missus wanted to go shopping, and imagine went to talk to a potential player instead.

People dont like him but Methven hit the nail on the head recently... January is so difficult because one minute a player can be available... the next minute he isnt because the parent club need him themselves because of injury or suspension.

I've long believed that January is the time of the year for the desperate unless you can get lucky with a Ramsay or Small signing which for us has been very rare - We'll equally see over time if 2m is worth it for Sam Smith @ Wrexham, or Jay Rodriguez even, or whether they turn into replicas of Will Grigg... I wont be surprised if either happens, as most transfer success can be down to the flip of a coin.

Yeah a loan to a promotion chaser in the NL with a recall clause could be a smart move. Don't think we could loan him to say Walsall with a recall clause , I might be mistaken there.

Nope... If we loan Kanu out to an EFL side now, its until the next Window opens... From memory, when Karlan Grant went out to Crawley on loan, we couldnt even recall him to use him for the Play-Offs, even though their season had been completed.
  • Friend of mine just bumped into Tracey Leaburn as she was coming out of a fancy dress shop. Apparently she was holding three sets of musketeer costumes. One for each of our new signings being unveiled this evening. She says they wanted to do something special for the photoshoot.

Based on the sizes of the costumes my mate reckons the three signings will be Owen Moxon, Harry Cornick and Jamie Jellis.
Ana De Armas sounds like a female musketeer!

No, she's the one who wrote the book

He’ll get them up this season and that’ll be job done.
Not sure on that one... very good player, at a much higher level, on his day... but he hasn't performed at that level for a long time. 15k a week is slightly more than what brum are paying May. I'd take May over Rodriguez now every day of the week, and he has been on the bench half the season
  • Logged onto 40 new posts, got excited. When will I learn?

It was indeed mentioned last week that the reason jones didn’t do the prezza is because a player was in the stands watching and they met up after the game - that could also be bollox but if true, fits with the fact we know who we want and are just waiting on the other club to sort themselves - maybe it’s all gone tits and we are in the lost property bin at the last minute again - we shall see
I don't know anything specific and it could be a case of "keep to the official line" but Jones has very consistently said he is only looking for players he actually specifically wants and feels like genuine improvements.

I'm not exactly thrilled at the lack of anything happening but compared to windows of the past we've previously gotten to exactly this time and still needed players to have a squad that was even viable, let alone competitive.

It's not ideal but we've been in much worse situations than this.

Wasn't Ally McCoist watching the game on Tuesday?
Legendary striker, but I'd hope we'd go for someone younger!
Ya Ya Toure was there Saturday !!!

Can confirm this isn't true as Jones jogged past me with the set piece coach to jump on the first Luton bound train after the final whistle. .

Do they?  Smith has been consistently excellent.. Mullin has played two seasons in League one and has been poor in both - he is the example of a prolific lower league striker who cant make the step up to the next level.  Rodriguez is older than most managers.  Ollie Palmer is slower than most senior citizens.  Marriot either scores 20 goals on a season or zero and you never which one you are going to get.  Steven Fletcher is still playing?
  • Fletcher has been their main scorer in recent weeks. They do like veterans there.

Yet they sit in 3rd place, nine more points than us with a plus 17 goal difference

I know what I would rather have
  • Oh ffs, now it’s the Wrexham thread, bring back Ana

23 clubs in League one with the ability to sign players this January and 21 are desperate then I assume?

When we sign a good player we are lucky, otherwise we are desperate is an incredibly pessimistic way to look at things.
  • I'm sure we'll someone on Monday, but it will most likely be a loan or a panic buy....or both.

For once....just for fucking once......it would be nice to put down a marker, a statement of intent & bring in a player BEFORE DEADLINE DAY.

Others seem to do it. Approx 60 deals done by League 1 clubs. Did they all have to wait for player x to move to club y so that club z could lend us their inept midfielder who has been injured for the past 3 months.
