Just rewatched our goals, for someone who does nothing Anderson wasn’t half involved for 2/4 of them. Smart pass to REG to stretch play for the first and challenges the keeper forcing the weak punch and then blocks off a defender for the third. I know there are things he can improve on but that often means people look over things he does well
I've been a critic of Anderson and his continual appearances when he has looked out of his depth, so happy to eat a bit of humble pie today. If he starts creating problems for the opposition with a high press and a couple of killer passes, all to the good. Fingers crossed he kicks on.
Anderson seems to be used in the Bakinson role of just causing pure chaos and disruption. Sometimes that means breaking up the opposition, sometimes it means coming up with something genuinely impressive and sometimes it means a promising move by us breaks down.

I'm not really sure I agree with the logic but it seems to be an important part of Jones style so I don't see it changing any time soon.
  • Comfortable win. Walsall started well but didn’t really threaten much after we went 1-0
up. Jones doesn’t need to tinker with that team for now.

It was my son’s first ever Charlton game. He loved it. A trip to The Valley next.
He’s clearly a good luck charm
  • Taylor and Coventry is clearly the best midfield combination, both worked hard and did their defensive duties, but also had some quality on the ball.

  • May have missed it, but are there any TV highlights anywhere?

I don’t think they’re available until later today/this evening, it not having been a CharltonTV broadcast.

  • Found it. BBC Website.
  • Did anybody notice who got the captain’s armband after Godden went off?
Does anybody know if the Charlton Athletic audio got sorted in the end?

I checked at about 60+ mins and it was back so I stayed with it rather than the partisan BBC audio....

So didn't really answer that at all. Seems a no brainier but can never be sure with Jones.
  • Josh Edwards was our best player first 60 mins.  Small gave us width and pace.  TC roasted them out wide when he doubled up with Small.

    Taylor HAS to play.

Gas will hopefully find some confidence with his goals but I just don't think he'll be part of a promotion winning side for us.

Pitch was wet.  The ball flew about a lot.  We were better than versus Burton.  Let's see what Tuesday brings.  My son still hasn't seen us lose this season. He was ill against Blackpool.   He's coming Tuesday.

I don't think we have enough guile or quality currently.   Would like to see

    AMB

    Ramsey
    Mitchell
    Jones
    Edwards

    Taylor
    Coventry
    Small

    Leaburn
    Godden
    TC

    or

    AMB

    Mitchell
    Jones
    Edwards

    Ramsey
    Taylor
    Coventry
    Berry
    TC

    Leaburn
    Godden

Injuries prevent it but therefore TC needs to play and out wide one side to inject pace and threat with Taylor in the side adding workrate and quality from dead ball situations.

  • 3 away games this season, 3 wins and 3 clean sheets. Thought Taylor and Coventry were the difference in quality today and berry with some nice touches. Worrying moments were in the first half free header from set piece and the opening 20 in the second. I’ve never felt more confidant in a player scoring a 1vs1 than today and even someone like may I still think he wouldn’t score. I think I’m still scared from that Varney miss… hopefully a good draw!

The so called partisan commentary of BBC West Midlands praised Charlton more than many CL posters have done for years !

Of course the local commentator wanted to highlight Walsall and when they were attacking for most of the 45th to 60th minute then just like Terry and Greg do with CAFC, they speak about the positives.

The injured Walsall player said how the home team normally do well against higher ranked teams but CAFC were very good and clinical.

As I said in the match thread at least the BBC Comms guy  didn't laugh when a CAFC shot goes into row Z like the Sky commentator did against Burton !
  • Only watched the highlights and listened so have questions for the 'analysts' who watched the whole game.

    Q.Was it a box midfield or a diamond ?
    Q. As Terry Taylor had two good shots at goal what was his position in midfield ?
    Q. The same Q. for Coventry who is becoming a bigger influence with the more games he plays. Also did the combo with Taylor work well ? Who was the most advanced or did they rotate ?
    Q. Excellent headers by Gassan Ahadme for both goals but did he or Godden get any crosses from more advanced positions as this is a major weakness in our play as most teams try to utilise the space out wide in advanced positions as it's so much easier to attack the ball moving on to it than looking over your shoulder when the crosses come in.

Bizarre squad selection again. Why's Hylton involved over Dixon and 2 left backs on the bench....
Dxon scored 4 goals against a weak non league side. League 2 defenders would be more likely to kick him to pieces.
I know an intelligent Charlton fan who went to the game and he said that Dixon is not ready for the first team.
Next you'll be trying to convince us that Santa Claus is for real
Santa Claus is real, he posts on here sometimes
And I saw him in The Glades last week.

I’m sure some will say it’s confidential or a trade secret of some kind and hence we aren’t allowed an answer 😉😆

It's neither confidential or a trade secret but it would be very undiplomatic to say "Yes, player X and player Y are going to play every week as they are better than the other players in my squad".

Sometimes, just sometimes, there are reasons why managers shouldn't give out info regardless how much fans might like to hear it.

I was actually surprised N Jones said as much as he did about the possible return of L Jones.

The emojis were lost on you I see. 🙂

I of course agree these days the manager won’t actually say one is better than another and the squad is important etc. BUT the answer will come if a consistent starting eleven emerges.
  • He’s probably hedging his bets so he can bring his favourite Docherty back in after the ban. Oh I hope not!!
