  • When do the full match highlights normally appear on CATV?
I've forgotten cos it's been that long since I wanted to relive the 90 odd minutes.

First away game this season, me and kids (Northampton is the only place I have lived apart from south east London).

    2.  “Only two Tyson fury’s”

Didn't hear that but was it per chance directed at the cauliflower eared steward?

I've never been to a game where so many of the stewards look like they were there earning a bit of spare dough whilst not fighting in the UFC.
There were a few bald stewards with a passing resemblance to fury.

Oddly for stewards that looked handy, none could control the Charlton crowd to do their bidding.  Most got fed up after 10 and went hiding off somewhere warm no doubt.

It's all been said about yesterday, so I'll not add to it.  Suffice to say I hope we play well against Cambridge, but what I really want is a bit of revenge against Crawley on new year's day....

I'm going to say well done to the fans, the journalists (Cawley started questioning Jones) and Gavin Carter (speaking on behalf of the owners) who I'm presuming finally got the message through to Nathan Jones that hoof ball is not acceptable unless it was successful.

I think most fans thought in this very poor league that Charlton were under performing and the main reasons were down to hoofing the ball, with no forward passing through the midfield and no width to create space.

It appears Nathan Jones has been told he must change the style/tactics and has relented.

Anyway, let's just hope it's the turning of the corner and at the very least we can watch some decent football for the rest of the season.
Think it's unlikely (& I certainly hope not from someone who has had no involvement in professional football) that Carter is giving Jones "advice" on the set up of the team. While I'm sure that we all agree that hoof ball is not acceptable, it's equally not acceptable for non football people to be advising a manager on the way forward.
I thought it was clear, but apologies as it can't be.
I mean that I suspect the owners have advised Jones via the conduit Gavin Carter (no longer Methven) that the style of boring hoof ball, losing games and dwindling attendances, needed a change of tactic.

So Carter effectively passing on the owner's message, even if he passed it on to Methven, Rodwell or Scott.

Maybe it didn't happen, maybe the owners were happy with Jones, the hoof ball, the results and the dwindling crowds and haven't said anything.
The second half against Mansfield the away team sat back giving Coventry, in particular, space to pass forward instead of backwards for a change. Northampton today were a rabble and our two early goals gave us momentum. Small and TC were further up the field than they have been in previous games because Northampton were so poor they did not put us under pressure defensively.
Nobody would be more pleased than me if we have changed our style to a more passing game, but I think we need to see a few more games before we can be sure it is a deliberate shift and not just because of the weakness of the opposition.
We hit the ball long almost 90 times against Crawley.

That number was reduced to below 60 against both Lincoln and Mansfield. The league average is in the 60-70 range.

Today was our lowest total of the season so far (46).

Regardless of opposition there’s been a clear shift of direction since that Crawley result.
Mansfield were on a 5 game losing run so happy for a point and Northampton were a rabble. Let's see what happens when a team does not vacate the midfield.
  • Brilliant away day for me and will go down, the day, as one of my best in nearly 40 years.

Went with my son whose first away game it was so have set an expectation now that they're all like that.

Great performance and back within touching distance of the play offs.

Please let this be a turning point that spurs us on,

Really nice and welcoming little club Northampton from the stewards to the women behind the food counter.
Keep the match ticket for him.
  • Out all weekend so not time for a proper write up, but had to share this jobsworth nugget from yesterday.

A steward stopped my 14 year old son and I from entering the ground yesterday with a sandwich. Jobsworth told us only food purchased from within the ground was allowed. So we had to stand outside next to him eating sandwiches before we could enter 🤣🤣

Gotta laugh. I’m sure it made the big man feel good with himself
    Ham or cheese and Branston?
  • I was pleasantly, no fundamentally surprised when I came out of the theatre and saw the scoreline yesterday.
Let’s see how long it lasts…

4 points outside the play-offs with game in hand at the 20 game mark of the season, after the run we had been on, is not bad at all. A win on Boxing Day and we could be a couple of points away. It is achievable, but only with a level of consistency.

Time to really kick on now, but also let’s enjoy these moments because they’re not often. So well done to the team and the fans, I think we deserved that.
Realistically, we are 4 points outside the play-offs having played a game more.
Bolton are 8th on goal difference but have played 2 games less than Lincoln and 1 game less than us.
Yeah, I think according to Louis' chart, we need to win more than half our remaining games to make the play-offs.

It’s still pretty astonishing that we’re in with a (relatively small) shout. Shows how poor the division is, given our relatively awful form for huge swathes of the season so far we should already be relegated!
I've seen Huddersfield a few times and think they are poor.
Yet they are 4th and unbeaten in 12 (I believe).

I don't think you'll need as many points usual to sneak in this season

But are you happy coming only once a year, and that down the chimney?

If we can get it up this then ... yes

Oh, so you were the guy that stuck a flare between 2 slices of bread and tried to pass it off as a sausage. Shame on you.  ;)

  • I’m still not convinced. We thought we had found it after the Birmingham game and we’ve been shit ever since. Is Jones learning? Does he really know what he’s doing or was yesterday a fluke? We’ll find out over the next couple of games.
  • I don't think it was a fluke as it was building on the foundations of the second half against Mansfield. Cambridge will be a tougher test but they're still poor so I would hope to beat them. The Wrexham result seems to have been an anomaly for them

    Seen Cambridge twice this season.
    A very tall side.
Very quick midfield who like to attack in waves.
    Very fit team.
    It will be a challenge
I mean they are pretty serious relegation candidates, the worst team away from home in the league, are third bottom (below Northampton even), 16th in the form table and have one of the worst defensive records in the division.

There are no easy games in League One, apart from Cambridge at home.
I hear Northampton away usually an easy one too
  • 10 games of absolute crap then 1 game competantly dispatching a L1 basket case... Nah!  Let's see in 9 games.
  • Braziliance said:I'll have a rethink if we manage to get 6 points from the next 2, which has to be the minimum.

We get any more than that in two games I’ll jostle the Welsh dragon off for your vlog
    Ffs mate 😂

I am expecting Cambridge at home to be an easy test tbh, they were awful earlier in the season in the cup, pumped by Reading 3 nil, Peterborough 6-1, Huddersfield 4 nil all fairly recently under Monk. Leaky side and as we are at home, and just scored 5, I'm now predicting us to paste them.

Team have talked the result up, let's see more of it.

Late upload, been on the mulled wine, hope it's a decent watch,

    Merry Christmas 😃
It's nice to see something so festive. Have a peaceful and joyful Christmas!
  • Four points from the playoffs, but it’ll be interesting to see what @LouisMend ‘s graph makes of our chances.
Another couple of wins should surely breathe new life into our season?
