    So Jadyn has taken a wicket for the first team, Ekansh scored a century in the first innings against India U19 and Ben Dawkins is currently 112 not out in the second innings. Let's hope that, like buses, we have these three all come through at the same time and become fixtures in the first XI eventually.

    Ingram out caught at slip by DBD off Jaydn's bowling in the final ball before lunch. Whether it hit the foot holes and Ingram hit the ground is open to debate.

    250-5 (74)
    Scheduled final ball, or did they just not bother finishing the over ?

    Last ball of the 74th over. I suspect that this wasn't the last over but that there wouldn't have been enough time to start another over before the clock struck 1.00pm.

    He has the same issue as Walker. The players just aren't consistently good enough.

    Did we recruit during the close season, or was the assumption that the team could compete in Division 2?

    Beyond the overseas recruits, the only real signing was Chris Benjamin. Our issue, in terms of recruitment, is attracting quality players who want to play in Div 2, being able to afford to pay them what they might demand plus having the majority of the squad still under contract thus limiting turnover.

    With contracts expiring, we should see some changes next season albeit I wouldn't say that they are likely to be wholesale in nature.

    Followed by Ekansh who hit 3 of the 6 balls he faced over the ropes before England declared!

    The lack of players coming through is the biggest issue, as Kent have always relied on a homegrown core.

    Losing Cox and Robinson was a blow, but where are the homegrown bowlers? Even if genuine quicks like Dilley are rare, what about the medium pacers like Fleming or Ellison.  Or spinners?

    52 opening partnership

    Jaydn 34* (43)
    Compton 18* (48)

    Jaydn out playing a rather rash shot that went straight up for 38 (57). One for him to learn from.

    62-1 (20.1)

    Van der Gugten has injured himself so Glamorgan are a bowler down and have just the four frontline bowlers as a result.

    I agree about the quicks , but perhaps Stevo playing as long as he did bedblocked anyone taking over that role. I am thinking about maybe Ball , went out the NZ with England U19s when he was 16 , in the same team as Root , Vince , Buttler , Stokes etc but at least two years younger than that cohort.

    Saw Adam Ball yesterday.  Still looks fit as a butchers dog!

    175-3 (63) at lunch for a lead of 3 runs

    Compton   48 (147)
    DBD           22 (44)
    Benjamin   43* (121)
    Evison         7* (12)

    200-4 (but almost certainly 5 given Joe Denly's injury)

    Lead of 28

    Benjamin last man out for 46 (133)

    272-5 and a lead of exactly 100

    Evison is the latest to go, for 49 (92)

    A coach (and I suspect ours will) should be going absolutely mad with those out to date - it's one thing to be dismissed before you've got the pace of the wicket but to reach 22, 38, 46, 48 & 49 respectively and then give it up is rather unforgiveable.

    Kent’s Achilles heels 2025:
    1) inability to bat well for two innings in the same match. First innings efforts have been lamentable all summer;
    2) poor contributions by the tail-enders;
    3) the bowling.
