They’ve called an early tea break at 211-3.

Remains to be seen whether there’ll be more play today.
Tempted to go to bed now as even if there is more play later it might be a long delay before they get back out again.
Local reports suggesting there may not be more play today so take that for what it’s worth

You’ll be less cranky on the match thread later too :-)
  • So.....

Have Australia taken their foot off the gas since securing the series?

Have England settled into the series after coming into it massively undercooked?

    Probably a mixture of both

Rain has stopped but there’s potentially more coming through. Odds of more play today looking less and less likely.

Luck plays a part too. Brook has played 2 or 3 shots that would’ve got him out earlier in the series when it mattered. But today they were falling in the gaps between fielders.

Rain has stopped for the second time but no idea how bad conditions are and how likely it is to dry to allow more play today.

The latest madness from the ECB and Stokes. No more Aussie overseas players in the County Championship before a home Ashes.

Quality players will be quality players , I don't care if Marnus wants to play for Glamorgan or Smith at Sussex. Cuts the available overseas player pool for the counties significantly.

Maybe it's petty but if they won't allow our players in the Shield why should we allow them to get extra acclimatisation in the Championship?

Think the last English player to play in the Shield was Mason Crane in 2017. This just feels like putting the ECB and the counties on another warpath.

Okay if you're not allowing Aussie overseas then the entire centrally contracted list of England players should be released to their counties for the first block of the Championship. Make it a proper competition, give Yorkshire Root and Brook for the first 6 games , give Surrey their superteam batting lineup and see what happens.

Think that would be fantastic but no way all the players would do that

Unfortunately a good chunk of them will be at the IPL so it will never happen unfortunately. Will be interesting to see if the ECB release Brook to Yorkshire for some CC games given he's banned from the IPL.

Nice (for us) to be able to watch the play half an hour early.

Please blame me. Saw nothing last night as I was asleep early. Sat down. Switched it on. Wicket gone.

I just have a fear that we see another collapse & are all out for under 350......which will be 100 short of the minimum we should be looking for.

Shame the rain came when it did yesterday. So much better having a final.sesion against tiring bowlers than coming back today against fresh legs.

That was clearly out but why on earth can’t they just use ultra edge!?

    let the collapse commence

Yeah it was the bizarre zooming and things not linking up. Surely by their next summer the Aussies will have dropped it

I am not sure about that, That looked like it passed and took a touch of his thigh, which is why the snicko indicated. Think the 3rd umpire guessed that. Snicko has been crap.If he has judged that as out saying "no gap between bat and ball, then why was Jamie Smith given out when there was clear daylight between bat and ball?".

Based on earlier decisions in the series, that's out. But Snicko is rubbish.

Massive moment for Smith. After a lousy series, we need him to deliver now.

Thought Root was out about four times in the 90’s before he got over the ton.
