Crazy that Bethell is the next cab off the rank, when he has no centuries of any sort, and in 2025 has played ONE red ball game, scoring 20 and 12 for Warks against Somerset last month.
Bethell did score 10, 50*, 16, 96, 12 & 76 (average 52.00) coming in almost immediately in NZ to replace Crawley who managed scores of 0, 1, 17, 8, 21 & 5 (average 8.67) and where the opening partnerships in the series were 9, 1, 12, 9, 32 & 8 - an average of 11.83 between "tall" and "short".
I think England have finally woken up to the fact that if you make the opposition bowlers bowl for a meaningful period of time then then will get knackered and it will also enable our bowlers to rest up. There will come a time for us to take the game to India but scoring too quickly overall doesn't necessarily help the cause.

I'd love this to be a constant from now on. But I'm wondering if it's as much about the ball going soft so early.
I’ve not opened this thread since Jan. Live view from the ground. The water taps are free but very slow. If you’re in the Edrich or Compton good luck with this heat. Many reports of sun stroke. We’re in mound towards back and lovely breeze. Lunch on nursery was only bearable for about 7 minutes.

Cider is refreshing.
I'm under cover in the Mound stand tomorrow. So glad I'm not in the open.
In a restricted view seat, but the view is decent enough.

We wont be getting 90 overs in today. Not even if we played to 7pm.

Jurel I suspect is a better keeper than Pant. Maybe England need to have Foakes available on overseas tours so he can sub for Smith
