If Pant's injury recovers to the extent that he is fit enough to bat, having had his feet up for the majority of the England innings, should he be denied a substitute when (if) England bat again?
It definitely feels like a loophole. India have a better keeping on the field than Pant, who can have a nice rest before batting.
  • I know the ball was slightly out of shape as was shown when it wouldn't go through the rings.
But it was behaving perfectly for the bowlers I thought they should have persevered with it
India have really "ballsed up". They have one that is doing less now than the previous one and looks a lot older too.

Yes it was odd when that ball was doing plenty.
  • Another ball change coming up.
Hhopefully this one will be as soft as the last
  • Twelve and a quarter overs per hour so far.  Including 22 overs from Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar
  • Feels like there needs to be some regulation around ball changes, unless the umpires decide independently it needs changing you are only allowed 1 change or 3 attempts or something. It’s a complete farce as it is

It was mostly cleared up a few years ago when they introduced the two rings, one of which the ball must pass through, the other of which it mustn't. So, unlike historically it's pretty much a "factual", binary check on the physical shape of the ball.

What they really need to do is get some better-made balls.

Obviously that's the best solution but this ins't the first batch of bad Dukes balls in the last few years so some regulation would be helpful too

4mins allowed for drinks and India took about 8. No doubt they will avoid all the penalty points though
  • Smith and Pant about to break the record for joint wicket keeper run totals in a series.
We're two and a bit tests in!

  • As a ill informed cricket fan, why the hell if the weather is good, can the teams not stay out there until the full 90 overs are bowled, the cost of a test match ticket is so bloody expensive fans shouldn't be getting short changed.
It can't be difficult to introduce a condition that says at least thirty overs must be bowled in a session. Starve the bowlers until they've met their commitment, instead of letting them stroll off and have an unearned cuppa.
  • The steward/doorman in the Lord's museum is a Charlton fan. The Che Hales t shirt is a good conversation opener!

I think most spectators like the 1 to 1:40 break though.

Just echoing what I've been saying for years.

Fun though, because the number of overs bowled in a day doesn't matter until the final day. And then its so mportant the last hour is noted & 15 HAVE to be bowled no matter what.
  • Consensus seemed to be 350 was par so we've done to get past it here. Anything close to 400 would be very nice
  • Yet another delay, this time for an injury to Gill.

Ridiculous that he hasn't gone off for his treatment

Most spectators like to see all the offers they've paid for
  • Elsewhere, Jersey have just beaten Scotland which means that either Jersey or Italy (or both) will be first time qualifiers for the next T20 WC

The restaurants at Lords will all be fully booked for 1pm.
If play continues to say 1.15 or 1.20 plenty of people would be late to lunch and late for start of play in the 2nd session.
Having said that in the members enclosure at Lords half of the old farts fall fast asleep after consuming a decent lunch.

    Archers' back!!!
  • Jofra!!! Great start for him, right on the money from the start.
  • Let's just hope Archer stays fit enough for a second over
  • Jofra straight in the 90s. Fantastic to see.

round 90 mph from a seemingly effortless action, he's now 30 y.o. and is well into his prime
  • Worried about Archer lugging 5kg of gold chain every time he runs in. Can't be good on his knees
