Wonder if we'll see any rotation on Tuesday night even if it's just a couple of changes to freshen things up with players that looked a bit leggy. Maybe Karoy for Berry?
Just when this squad tease you with a bit of form, a result like this comes along and hits you with a dose of reality. At times this season, I have seen both tooth and nail, battling performances that make you believe that top 6 isn't such a stretch, and then absolute so-bad-it's-almost-funny performances that question if we might be dragged into the doldrums of a lower bottom half scrap. You never know which version of Charlton is going to turn up at any given game. I wasn't able to see any more than the highlights from the Tuesday night game at Preston, but seemingly all of the performance and effort went into that game rather than this. It's embarrassing.
All over us in the first half, with other defenders now catching Gillespheyitis. Mitchell has got mistakes creeping into his game, with even Jones not immune from this now. The basis of NJ's brand of football at Charlton has been to stop the kinds of goals we conceded today, and despite the good performance, the ones we saw on Tuesday too. Even when Leaburn scored, I felt that the opportunities would and eventually did keep falling to Rotherham and we got punished over and over. Wilks and Green showed our glaring deficiencies in reacting to a bit of pace and movement.
The complete lack of inconsistency just pains me so much. The team that grabs 6th from this point will be the team that can will be just the one that doesn't have games like this. I agree that this is not the point that we tear it all down and start again with players/systems etc., but I just despair at games like this. You can't be making mistakes like this if you want to get in the top 6. It's real non-league kind of stuff.
We needed a point minimum to keep ourselves even in the picture. Every loss from this point forward adds one of the final nails in the coffin for this season. We'll finish 8-12th and it's like they have all accepted that this is good enough.
I can accept one shit performance and credit to Rotherham, as much as I dislike Evans, they were excellent and certainly showed how free kicks should be taken. We need a performance at Bolton, another one like today would not be acceptable.
On the train heading home. I haven't seen us play recently so I was expecting the new Charlton to turn up and entertain us... Which I suppose they did in a keystone cops kind of way! That defensive display was one of the worst I have ever seen. It was quite frankly embarrassing. We were in fact terrible all over the pitch and didn't win a single 50/50 ball. After getting ourselves back in it we just got sloppy again and that was that... And it was freezing!
Was today a blip or just back to what we've been for most of the season ?
Yes, we had previously been 6 unbeaten in the league but that included 3 draws......all 3 being 0-0. We are never going to set the league alight & not going to go on an amazing winning run to force our way into the play offs.
Would have been a good day to steal a march on the other teams chasing a top 6 spot as many around us failed to win. I said on the pre match thread we had a big 3 games ahead of us & fell at the first hurdle.
We have 6 games now before we play away at Birmingham with 4 being at home. Need no less than 14 points from those games otherwise the season will def be over.

That was much worse than we’ve been any game this season. We will find out on Tuesday but I think we will see a good reaction
Our complete reliance on 2/3 key players a) being in the team and b) performing to the best of their ability is alarming.
If Lloyd Jones is not in the team or decides to do a really good impression of a baby giraffe on ice, as he did today, the defence fall to pieces.
Mitchell chose today to have his worst game for us and I am sick of repeating myself with Gillesphey - he is shit, nowhere near good enough for team who aspires to challenge for the play offs. He added a new string to his bow today as well, he completely gave up chasing Wilks when he went through for the 4th. Inexcusable.
Midfield were back to looking light weight, leaden footed and totally lacking in any semblance of quality.
Campbell fell over looking for free kicks a lot, other than that contributed nothing, Leaburn scored, but contributed little else. At least Godden showed he knows where the goal is. I'd like to see him alongside Leaburn, but unless we add some quality to midfield it will be a waste of time.
If neither Ramsey or Watson are going to be back in the next few weeks then we desperately need to bring in some cover at right back. We have got to bring in another wide option as well. If Campbell has a bad day at the office then at the moment we have no alternative.
That's 3 games without a win now. We went on a horrendous run after we had a brilliant result against Birmingham, are we going to do the same after beating Wycombe?
The worrying thing is, this team has already shown it is more than capable of going 5,6,7 games without a win and we have a manager who seems to think they are too good for this division.
It was pretty bad but .... are they all a bit knackered? We aren't usually so "last to the ball". Even TC looked like he was having trouble keeping up, when usually he's out-sprinting pretty much anyone. If thats the reason , fair do's, but its a bit worrying when they have to play again Tuesday. Push on? Or do we look for many changes Tuesday just to give the current squad a bit of a breather, and accept a defeat again is a real posibility?

Sadly it wasn't. Crawley was like that. And we were mediocre for most of October and November. Maybe the last 4 games were the blip. We need quality reinforcements in midfield and defence.
Bored of getting outfought by Steve Evans teams, same thing happens every time . Hopefully the owners can get the chequebook out and at least sign a creative midfielder and a CB so the rest of the season isn't a complete dirge.
They won't get the cheque book out. They have been told a tale by Mr Salmon trousers.

Just disappointing to see other sides go out and make proper signings and we'll probably sign whatever castoffs Bloomfield doesn't want at Luton on loan on deadline day. A top quality creative Midfielder ,LCB and winger would make such a difference.
If this is another midtable finish about 12th season then Mr Salmon Trousers , the rest of the SMT and Andy Scott have major questions to answer
Two good finishes from our forwards, otherwise disjointed up front, absent in midfield and calamitous at the back. It's been said before, but I'll say it again, we really shouldn't have got rid of these two:
Was today a blip or just back to what we've been for most of the season ?

It was unexpected, as while we were turgid for much of the autumn, we weren't being cut apart like we were today.
Thankfully I didn't go today or even watch the stream. Tuesday has to show a bit turnaround, or else we can effectively write off this season. I had wondered about the lack of rotation, and barely using the bench in recent games. The Tuesday cup game and the travelling would have had some impact on our energy reserves.

When we used to play,
With a little bit of pride and passion

Comical defending, especially for their third goal, particularly Jones. AMB is also nowhere near good enough.
Looked a bit better with Chuks, Godden and Anderson on but not massively.
Rotherham probably should have five or six today.
