Heard we’re looking at bringing a couple in from someone in the club, no idea who but why is every thing so lastminute.com
do it and do it early stop fannying around , I know there’s a list of excuses available but January didn’t just appear by magic .
Not that we’re currently desperate but some tired legs are out there and we won be able to ride our luck for too much more .
If other clubs don't want to sell or players don't want to move here, how exactly do we get things done early?  By overpaying?

Anderson has done very well lately but I think it helps him coming on as a sub at the moment. I think some people have got it in for Berry and he is doing a decent enough job if not a spectacular one.
I think he's OK and has had some good moments. But for a player that has just come out of the premier league, I think he'll be fairly disappointed with his return/form this season. I certainly don't think he'd describe it as spectacular.
Watching the highlights I noticed Berry played the reverse pass that TC broke into the box from, delivered the corner Miles nearly scored from and got in the way of Doc's shot that should've been a goal - the latter was unfortunate, but he does have a habit of being involved in important moments. Def hoped for more from him but thought yesterday was one of his better games. I didn't pick up on those three highlight moments during the game but did notice him knitting play together nicely more than I can recall in other games.

Also noticed TC dropping deep into pockets of space a lot more than I can remember him doing before - poss a tactic, poss a response to Shrewsbury sitting so far back?
  • SO many great posts following this match ! Far more than I normally " Like", with Lifers' sensible heads donned after initial words summarising the euphoria we felt at the final whistle. And shedloads of positivity without going overboard with no mention of the Titanic  :)

Several reiterated what we'd been saying during & after the match...Leaving a player up when the opposition have a corner, the evidence of the level of fitness our lads are demonstrating with the exception of the tired legs at Rotherham, the battling "never say die" attitude of TC in the face of extreme provocation by the Shrews' defenders . Mr F in particular mentioned how the opposition players were stretching - falling to the ground even- massaging tired legs in the last knockings of the match whilst our gallant lads looked on with their Duracell batteries still firing...

No need to thank me, but pre match planning meant the outfit /jacket I'd worn to our last attended 3 pointer, was removed from its mothballs, meaning I bravely shivered in silence until TS's fantastic winner ...." Ggggggggooooaaalllll" accompanied the chattering teeth. This was my version of "taking one for the team".

BUT the crucial element  that was undoubtedly the catalyst for our last gasp winner was ( drum roll) , one single, miniscule SMINT.

As 6 minutes of added time was announced, my old 'ead was a mess of jumbled thoughts, accompanying the silent pleas of " Clean sheet, Ashley! " over & over. Did I apply the lucky perfume before ko ? Were my ankles crossed correctly ? Should I put on my gloves or leave them in my bag ? Aaaaah, maybe a quick suck on a Smint would help the cause....and, dear friends, that insignificant, nonsensical action  conjured up a sublime pass from Lloyd, a flick on from Karoy, another from Conor and , ta da, a sublime finish for Thierry. He didn't choke and fortunately, neither did I.

So, a lesson learned. The "lucky" humbugs & the choccy fingers which brought success in the past ( sometimes) like every dog, had their day . The new "must have"-.the humble, cheap Smints. However, there is a downside ( isn't there always ?) No more will a shout of "Fanny ! Over here!" be heard in my vicinity ....You get the picture.

Joking aside, whist we were going bananas on the 96th minute, my thoughts were of 2 Lifers.

AFKA, who was forced to watch from his settee as a result of a setback in his training for the 3000 m steeplechase at the next Olympics and our overseas pal, oz addick who has indeed travelled many miles for this visit.

That winner was for you !  <3

    Onwards & upwards with a Smint !!!!!

no need to waste time with chemicals, a rusty set of garden secateurs will suffice.

An upgrade on Berry seems to be one of the signings we’re going for, so I don’t think it’s harsh to suggest it’s an obvious spot in the team we can improve on with the right player.

…While Small’s end product can be improved, he’s stretching teams wider and more importantly drawing a double up on him, creating more space elsewhere…
Brownie yesterday on CharltonTV said “Let’s face it, if Ramsay had an end product he wouldn’t be playing here!”.

I’m happy that he then went on to score the winner!
    Ramsay?

Yeah, my bad, I thought he said Small, but it was Ramsay. I’ve deleted my comment.

Thierry sometimes has quiet periods, quiet games even, but even when he does he normally has a couple of moments where he bursts in to the box, or whips in a cross. The rest of the time he’s tying up a couple of defenders, allowing space for others.
Great to see his joy at scoring the win.
And who was the fella who caught the corner flag, and made it look easy!? 😂

It could have applied to Ramsay or Small, as it happens. 👍

Berry's recent career stats (starts v subs) perhaps show that he has been used as an impact sub late in games when space opens up. He was also a sub in Luton's playoff win, where he came on and scored the winning penalty in extra time.

Jones did sell Berry as being the best at what he does outside the PL, so it's probably fair that's how fans are judging him.

I'd go straight for the 3rd rail option...Pelham 123 style.

I didn't enjoy that experience one bit. Was in a very overcrowded bit with nowhere to go. Very claustrophobic. No announcements of any kind either.

The policeman was a right little tosser too, getting pissed off with people just asking what was going on after about 30mins of radio silence

If ever a game showed what we need in this window, that was it. An attacking midfielder who can carry the ball and another winger to deputise  / be an alternative for TS. It was 25 minutes before we managed to get the ball to TS. Before that TC had been doing some good work , beating his men but was mainly working on his own with Leaburn in the centre halfs pocket and offering very little and Berry not doing very much. They were well organised and defended well and seemed to be concentrating on cutting the supply to Small. This should have opened up space for Berry in particular and but he couldn't take advantage of it. If you were a scout at todays game you would probably be noting TC, TS, Jones, Coventry and possibly Edwards as worth another look - we need a team where the majority are worth another look if we are promotion worthy - we need to add 2 of those this window and hopefully we do.

  • We have the most "points added" after 75 minutes in the league.

Other things/folks contribute of course but I think the fitness & conditioning team deserve a decent slice of the credit pie......even with my rose-tinted last-minute win specs on we seem to have better energy through to 90+ minutes than we did say a year ago.

John Marquis must hate playing The Valley
Hate seeing him at the Valley tbh...Silly twat that he is!
Always good for entertainment value, crap every time he shows up, but thinks he's the dog's balls...😂

Fitness for sure but also better quality of subs/game changers as well.

Why restrict it to chemically?  It took me two hours to get home to SE26.

The driver was running up and down the train trying to reset the alarm. No else to help him or give any announcements. Looked well pissed off and I suspect he was in no mood to "apologise" to anybody afterwards.

Was on that train as well, no up dates, no surprise with the old bill as well walking up and down the platform, no communication at all.

Got to remember he's doing all this while playing on his weaker side as well. Ramsey and Small on each side would be some attacking set up.

The 202 is usually slower than the train but I'll consider it.
