Performance wasn’t great, they were terrible and should have nicked it in the 94th min, then we win it in the 96th.
Was a shit atmosphere for 95 minutes then you end up going home buzzing off your tits.
We are such a strange football team.
Agree with lots of this, but I genuinely believe you’re not giving Shrewsbury the credit they deserve.
They really didn’t offer much offensively but they were set up excellently defensively. Nsiala at the back for them had a fantastic game at completely nullifying Leaburn. It’s where having Aneke coming off the bench makes such a difference because within 10 mins he was gone through exhaustion.
As others have said, to be getting the better of the teams who set up like this, we need better in attacking midfield to break these teams down.
Can't believe how many circa 6's Docherty is getting in the ratings, I thought he worked bloody hard, made some decent runs, defended well and some nice passes. He was doing his and Berry's job and should have scored, but still.
Was annoyed when he was substituted rather than Coventry as he had just set up a couple of rare attacks whilst Coventry seemed incapable of playing a forward pass all game. We played far too deep for most of the match and don't need 3 centre backs and 2 deep lying midfielders against poor teams with zero attacking threat like Shrewsbury, especially when 2 of those centre backs are Mitchell and Gillesphey who are both incapable of playing out from the back and passing forwards.
Docherty and Coventry don’t do any of the glamourous stuff which most people won’t appreciate!
Docherty has really stepped into the player that we signed in recent games! I like him!

Shame Nsiala is at the latter end of his career, I thought he was very solid yesterday and was also very good against Wrexham the other week.
Totally dominant throughout in terms of both possession and territory but created too few chances. Couldn't believe it when their bloke missed the ball completely in their only real goal opportunity and then we go and grab it at the end. Thierry played very well but my MoM was Tyreece, who was in great form, coming deep to collect, turning, terrifying their full back, then coming inside to torment their big number 6 - superb.
Nothing in football beats a last minute winner. It forgives everything before it and everyone goes home happy.
But if you want to analyse the play, try reversing the match. Small scores in the 1st minute like Campbell did against Cambridge, and then 96 minutes of frustrating chugging followed. The assessment would be ‘yeah, we got the three points but it’s just not good enough’.
We don’t seem to be obviously falling short in too many places. Yesterday Leaburn had a poor game for his standards and as others have mentioned, Berry just doesn’t contribute anywhere near enough that you hope he could. The quality of delivery from wide areas, either from set pieces or open play from Edwards and Small also lets us down.
But other than that, we’re relatively solid defensively, Doherty has really picked up in the centre of late and Tyreece is growing in confidence and impact. While Small’s end product can be improved, he’s stretching teams wider and more importantly drawing a double up on him, creating more space elsewhere.
Bringing on good quality standard subs for the last 20-30 mins is really helping us finish games strongly, we just need now to find something that works for the first 60 mins as other than the Northampton game, it so rarely does!
Onto Tuesday and what will be another empty midweek Valley. Let’s hope we attack the first 60 on the front foot and get those there engaged.
Come on Charlton, this season is still there to grab.
I thought Shrewsbury were incredibly well organised and we had little or no guile. In the end pure persistence and effort won it
Agreed, I thought they gave a very good away performance. Frustrate the home team, and try and nick a goal from a breakaway or set piece. In the second half they probably had better chances than we did before we scored.
Struggling to remember any goal attempts from them until a lame attempt by Marquis near the end and then the sitter in the 94th minute. We had two good efforts in the first half (Berry free kick, then the great run and cross from TC), the header from Leaburn and shot from Docherty in the second half, then the goal. I make us well ahead on chances.
We got exactly the game we were always going to get. Shrewsbury aren't equipped to stay in this division through playing exciting football so they're going to go away to a biggish team and try and come away with a point, nick three if they can. The ideal scenario in a game like that is you force an early goal and make them play for something after that but if they're keeping things too tight then we must be one of the most difficult teams to hold out against. For all we have to watch some dull football at times Jones has recruited players with incredible engines and works them across the season to maintain the highest levels of fitness. Fighting to your life for a full 90 minutes is exhausting and having the opposition not really tire and still have their wingback breaking into the box in the 96th minute, or their centre mid sprinting through past tired legs to get on the end of a cutback is almost impossible to deal with at times. We score so many late goals because in the last ten physically our players are miles ahead of most other teams in this division. It's a nice feeling knowing you're not just still in a game come 90 minutes but your chances of actually getting something have gone up.

Agree about Docherty.
Thought he had a really good game yesterday. He was consistently winning the ball in midfield with some good tackling and tracking back. Not glamorous but absolutely essential stuff.

fully involved in the celebrations in his trackie top too!
I don't know why Ainsworth shaking hands with ours is seen as something worth remarking on. It seems standard to me. Watching on the stream I always see NJ shaking hands with oppo players. I think it's just that Ainsworth cuts a figure with his slow moving gait and daft wild hair, and/or we're still recovering from laughing at Evatt and Lloyd Jones.
I liked that GA went round shaking all the Charlton players' hands as they went towards the tunnel
A couple of loans from Charlton coming his way perhaps ?
maybe he was pleased his team put in a good showing against us and almost knicked it at the end ? The game came down to their player not scoring from his chance two minutes before our player scoring from his chance. His team can still build confidence in themselves on that.
Or words of encouragement to our players to go out and beat his team’s relegation rivals ?
If I was a Shrews player I'd be a bit pissed off. I'd rather have him in the dressing room consoling me/ my team mates on battling hard for 98 mins than shaking the opponents hands. I mean, it's not like we just won the bloody league or anything.
Recommend watching his post match, he talks glowingly of the players and how proud he is. Don't think any of them would be pissed off for long

To be fair he must have waited on the sidelines for a good five minutes whilst all our players celebrated in front of the covered end, it wasn’t as if the final whistle went and he walked on and shook hands before the celebrations. It was a nice gesture though.

There's a big difference between shaking a few hands on your way to the referee and hanging around to watch celebrations and then make sure you shake everyone's hand. It's unusual and a nice thing, nice things are becoming less frequent in football so I think it's worth pointing out
We seem to be strong, maybe fitness from the Summer camp and the extra coaches now showing in the winter period. Also less injuries in the squad compared to other seasons. We do seem to have suddenly some momentum and players seem to be more confident and have a greater understanding. Feels like perhaps the start of a little run of form !
We need to make a few changes on Tuesday I agree. Leaburn, Campbell & Berry looked knackered to me. Might be too risky but Anderson, Kanu & Godden could come in for some fresh legs

Well I only go by what I see on the streams, if I am at the Valley, I tend not to hang around unless there's a tunnel jump, so if it's as you say, I agree.
It's also smart people management. He knows he might meet these players again - or want to.
Shrews pressed and defended well (until the final minutes).
We were slow, tired and pedestrian for most of the game. The ball needed to be played faster around them. Lacked creativity.
Leaburn looked like a passenger and Chuks caused mayhem but in reality was way off his best. Doc had a chance that would have been easier to score than miss.
I thought Chuks was looking for fouls everytime, went down very easily yesterday

Start Godden over Leaburn on Tuesday.
2 on the trot......very un-Charlton like.
