  • Would you take Gilbert on a permanent move if we got promoted?
No, very lightweight and doesn't tackle .. he was loaned out by a Champ club because i m o he isn't up to Championship standard
  • Limited sample size but outside of his set piece delivery (which wasn't great against Wycombe) I'm not too sure about Gilbert, he looks like he struggles to impose himself on a game to me
  • Aaron Connerly just released from Millwall. Apart from club I think he’s a decent player and has done well at previous clubs. Think he’d be a decent signing

I was actually really impressed with Gilbert off the ball on Thursday, chased down the opposition players a lot and won the ball back a few times through sheer determination and/or getting his foot stuck in (before he tired in the second half) so based on what I've seen I don't think he's especially lightweight for his position

Agree, much more aggressive than previous games and v a very physical side.

Whether he signs will, I guess, depend on what other options we have

    McIntyre failed his audition.

While I'm not against loans Jones' policy of having very few does mean that unlike Wycombe this year and us last few years we're not reliant on them and them going back to their parent club in the summer doesn't leave a huge gap in the squad.
If we are in championship I’m sure we will have more loans. In league 1 we can do without as we have one of the bigger budgets so can sign enough quality without and as you say leave ourselves in a strong position going into next season. In the championship we will have a relatively small budget so will probably have to accept needing to use the loan market more

Massively over the hill and on the decline, no thank you
Only 25? I know hes had a bad couple of seasons but over the hill is harsh

I know he's young and there's still time to get back on track but he just seems a shell of himself. He's obviously had his fair share of tough times off the field and that can have a real impact. For his sake I hope I'm wrong and he can get back on track. I just don't think it's the kind of risk NJ would take
  • Another wish, NOT rumour .. Angus Gunn, Norwich & Scotland goalkeeper, leaving Narge on contract expiry .. would solve our keeper problem (on high wages, BUT i m o would be well worth a big salary)

Don’t mind him as a player but has an absolutely awful attitude sits there complains the majority of the time complete opposite character of what Nathan Jones would want

  • Connelly is the most un Nathan Jones signing possible. Can't see him ever knuckling down and actually making anything of his talent. Had a reputation at Brighton for being a party boy.

Played for Luton on loan in 2019 when I assume Jones was manager. Only two games according to Wiki so maybe he didn't impress.
  • He wasn’t lightweight but only really looked fit enough to manage 45 mins of pressing and hard work. Was great at pressing forward but from a defensive point of view in midfield he struggled to track player runs

Some are still suggesting that Gilbert is lightweight after the last game??? Insanity
Agreed, they must have been watching a different game to me.

I think with Gilbert another season long loan which includes being with us for all of pre season may suit all parties. And maybe isn’t dependent upon which division we are in either.

If Middlesborough were willing to loan him again I think he might be worth a punt
    Probably the best bet.

Orient have been playing Galbraith at RWB mainly. But by trade normally yes he'd compete with Coventry.
Should we get to the Championship, I wouldn't be surprised if Jones wanted to start with a double pivot 4-2-3-1. He already showed at the beginning of this season that his number #1 priority when starting at a new club/level is to not concede goals.

This would make a lot of sense but would need quite heavy recruitment I would think to make it work - I'll just write this out as a possible 4231 lineup (striker is a coin toss)

    New GK

    Ramsay Jones Gilly Edwards

     Coventry New CDM

    TC New 10 Small

    Godden/Leaburn
Don’t need a new keeper unless AMB leaves .. Doc been very good in mid …. We need better winger then Campbell in championship Knibbs of Reading would be my choice ..that would be good competition for that role. … we will need another goalscoring striker.

I could quite easily see AMB leave for a League 1 club. Think NJ will really try to get experienced competition for Mannion or someone that can really push him. Think the Wickens rumour if true makes a lot of sense if the latter is what is wanted.

Can't see Harvey Knibbs being a realistic target now Reading have money and solid ownership, they'll want to build their side around him and I can't see us paying a fee similar to what Wrexham paid for Sam Smith to land Knibbs.

Striker is where I hope we push the boat out , I know strikers aren't a guaranteed science and I still fully expect Godden to play a squad role for us.

AMB is 100% going this summer. Mannion was always meant to be a No.2 so we definitely bring in a new No.1 GK. Docherty is good enough at L1 level but not really a championship starter. As for a No.10 wouldn’t be surprised if we were going to go in for a Sonny Carey at Blackpool

No idea if Knibbs would be a target but he has a year left on his contract.  Reading new owner was the owner of Wycombe and ran them reasonably prudently iirc.  If Knibbs won't sign I suspect Reading will cash in.  Whether we would have enough or even want him, who knows.

Especially after he scores the winning goal on Sunday with an overhead kick.
  • We also have to make a decision with Miles, as with one year left on his contract, we either need to get a new deal sorted or it makes sense to sell him if the fee is right.
