If we look at the current squad, my take on who is good enough is as follows:
Mannion - No. Maynard Brewer - No. Ramsey - Yes Asiimwe - No. Edwards - Yes Jones - Yes A Mitchell - Unsure Z Mitchell - Unsure Gillesphey - Yes Small - Yes Campbell - Yes Coventry - Yes Anderson - Not quite Berry - Yes Docherty - Unsure Taylor - Not quite Ahadme - Hell No. Leaburn - If he can get and stay fit Dixon - not quite. Godden - YES Hylton - No. Kanu - Not quite (but Karlan shone at this level after looking well out of place in his first few seasons)
Obviously we have loanees and retirees and other out of contract players, but none of the rest really felt worth a mention.

I’d be unsure on Gillesphey purely because he wasn’t good enough for Plymouth who weren’t exactly a good championship side. Also be cautious on Godden and Berry purely due to their age. If we do go up we’re definitely going to need to make 5/6 big signings
So that's Dijksteel, Ajayi and Shelvey so far on the former players who get suggested for the transfer window, unless I've missed some. I'm glad we're diversifying a bit, I was getting tired of seeing Fosu getting suggested at the start of every single rumours thread
The very first post on this thread was about Brendan Wierdu and I am fairly sure I have mentioned Dillon Phillips is out of contract already! 🤣
At this point Wiredu gets mentioned so regularly I don't think I even count him anymore

Gillesphey, Docherty and Berry should be squad players if we go up, for that very reason.
Those two midfield positions would need to be a priority, along with a keeper.
i think back 3 and wing backs are fine to start off with although we should add at least one more potential starter as question mark over gillesphey in championship? - midfield will need 2 new starters to go with coventry and we'll need at least one more first choice striker to rotate with tc and godden with Leaburn as back up. Probably need a goalkeeper overhaul as well. Players like berry, docherty and mitchell will be fine as squad players. This assumes small stays of course.
Good all round player but more of a tackler than creative.
He would love him back but too good for L2.
I take from that at the very least he's someone we'd look at. Being only 20 he's someone we could develop, and coming back to England permanently might appeal (he was on loan at Hertha Berlin and was in QPR then Arsenal's academy).
Another wish, NOT rumour .. Angus Gunn, Norwich & Scotland goalkeeper, leaving Narge on contract expiry .. would solve our keeper problem (on high wages, BUT i m o would be well worth a big salary)
He's left and moved back up north. We were visiting friends 2 weeks ago in Norwich and randomly they were popping to a neighbours house to buy curtains as the fella was moving.... Bryan Gunn opened the door and finalised the deal lol
Thanks for the info, I suspected that he had a move lined up before letting his Norwich options run out .. but Bryan is his dad ? .. were they very nice curtains ?
Yeah Bryan is his dad, curtains were fine.. friends seemed to like them as they made 3 trips while we were there and ended up with 9 pairs 😆.
Either that or they just wanted to see Bryan again.
yeah ol Bryan is a bit of a Norwich legend, I suspect he's staying put and just helping Angus clear and sell/rent his house 9 pairs !! .. must be a big house your friends have lol
You'd be surprised just how much house you can get for relatively little money in Norwich !
I'd be disappointed if we sign anyone over 25. Time to gamble, unless owners have big investment plans.
Our player of the season (Jones), top scorer (Godden) and top assists (Berry) are all well over 25, whilst the players we spent the most on in the summer, Mitchell and Adahme, both under 25, have stuck the place up

I wouldnt mind one of Mannion or AMB staying as back ups, Asimwe, Dixon, Kanu need loans, Zach I would keep in the squad now Anderson only for late sub apperances
Mannion - back up Maynard Brewer - No. Ramsey - Yes Asiimwe - back up Edwards - Yes (LWB or LCB?) Jones - Yes A Mitchell - no Z Mitchell - back up but time off bench, anywhere at the back or midfield Gillesphey - back up Small - Yes Campbell - back up but minutes Coventry - Yes Anderson - back up but coming off bench often Berry - no Docherty - no Taylor - perhaps back up Ahadme - No. Leaburn - back up unless he pushes on Dixon - back up but minutes Godden - back up Hylton - No Kanu - loan Enslin - loan Mbick - short loan Casey - loan
Quality needed in middle and upfront. Different type of football in tier two.

Would argue A.Mitchell would actually suit championship football more than L1. Less time more time on the ball more time defending the box probably plays to his advantages

That looks like we’re going to be spending a lot of money . Can’t see it .
Mannion - backup Maynard Brewer - No. Ramsey - Yes Asiimwe - loaned out (maybe to Walsall if they go up) Edwards - Yes Jones - Yes, and given armband A Mitchell - backup or loaned out if we can get a better backup option Z Mitchell - backup Gillesphey - Yes, but I'd like another 1st choice CB as well Small - Yes Campbell - Yes Coventry - Yes Anderson - squad player Berry - Unsure Docherty - Unsure Taylor - Will leave I assume Ahadme - Will leave I assume Leaburn - Yes he if signs a new contract, or sell Dixon - backup if he can bulk up Godden - Yes Hylton - Retired Kanu - loaned out to a L1 side
Two roads diverged after a long season one with kudos the other denigration Promotion would give a new found reason to support the team at this joyous completion and arrive at Charlton life's Championship Station.
Dijksteel has been mentioned and dismissed but I think he would be a good signing. Only 28 and bags of Championship experience. Now released by Middlesbrough who are always near the top of the league. Played over 30 games this season and fit. Not sure there is better available on a free and would leave more in the kitty for another positions.
Good shout but until we know by Sunday afternoon whether Championship or League 1, it could be Dijksteel if the former and Grimmer if it's the latter 🤷🏻♂️
Orgasmic celebrations or usual suspects venting their spleen if Bradford is our first game and not Leicester.
Depends if your talking league one or championship
Mannion - Yes both Maynard Brewer - No. Ramsey - Yes Asiimwe - No. Edwards - Yes Jones - Yes A Mitchell - Yes and back up for Champ Z Mitchell - Yes league one no champ Gillesphey - Yes Small - Yes fir league one 50/50 champ his final ball not good enough Campbell - Yes league one on past 6 weeks performances only back up for Champ Coventry - Yes Anderson - Send out on loan not good enough Berry - Yes Docherty - Yes Taylor - released Ahadme - Yes league one at this point no champ Leaburn - Yes league one no champ
Dixon - yes league one no champ loanneeded
Godden - YES Hylton - coach Kanu - No and No needs a loan
What would we do with Dijksteel though? We don't play with an out and out right back and he's no flying RWB/winger like Small. You might slot him in on the right of the defence but a right-sided centre back converted from a right back isn't really on the shopping list considering we have Ramsay for that already. He hasn't really played as a central midfielder in senior football so we'd be looking at bringing in a player who was on his second contract at a fairly wealthy Championship side - so expensive salary - who doesn't really fit in with how we play. He's a good player but I don't know that he fits for us

This is the stark reality of this match.
Jones has already stated that the first choices don't change regardless of league. Though the odds of success will of course be affected.

Yep that was my thinking too. Only makes sense if Ramsay goes and his salary expectations fit our budget.
I can also see Zach Mitchell covering Ramsay and Jones, so as long as they all stay we might not bring in a right footed CB.
The Small replacement will be the most interesting thing. He plays like a winger a lot of the time but the benefit he brings is more defensive solidity than a winger converted to a WB

Have no guarantee Ramsay will stay considering he’s far too good for us if he was to leave Dijksteel is pretty much the best like for like replacement we can get. Alternatively Jones may want to slightly alter the system to go to a traditional back 5 if we do go up as we’re going to be playing much better teams than us he may be a bit more defensive minded and can play both together
With the (re) appointment of Chapple and Jones’s very specific requirements I imagine we will see quite a lot of very good players going elsewhere that we seem to have either missed out on or passed up, not due to quality but because we are being very specific in who/what we are looking for.

Even if Small stays and that will only happen if we are a Championship side, if Saints, Ipswich and Leicester are suddenly resurgent especially when CAFC are away then the traditional RB will be used more than the attacking skills of a Thierry. Personally, Small would always be my 1st choice wide man but it will be horses for course if and when we become a championship side. At home I would try to use the width where possible in an advance position which changed our season along with the 25 sheets which ensued.
My example was more about the quality of player coming to CAFC though I wouldn't expect that many. Grimmer did an excellent job on TC as well as Grim's helper when TC was double marked and man handled. Dijksteel is a higher quality player than him or Watson.
Pay scales dependant as always on who comes and who goes.
At the Lincoln game when TC was missing Small was treble marked ! and still got his shot off; can't remember if it was the near miss or the shot that emulated Albie Morgan's hitting the Jimmy Seed lettering !
There will be two lists that will kick in on Monday Morning if not before.

Historically he has been a solid championship level player. That being said, he had a really poor second half of this past season. Is that just a temporary poor stretch of form or is there a concern that it will continue
