I also still have faith in Alex Mitchell if he gets his chance, think he is slightly underrated on here.

We will be up against it most games in the Champ, especially away, and he is very sound defensively. We will need pure defenders in certain games (Sheff United, Norwich, Southampton away etc) can forget about all that playing sexy football malarkey.
Was quite clearly the weakest link when he had to step in towards the end of the season. A defence that had gone so long without making clangers suddenly had someone in there making stupid mistakes. If he wasn't good in league one, I don't think a summer will improve him enough for three championship.
It’s very difficult to come into a settled defence with limited game time and not look like the weakest link. Before he was out of the team I personally didn’t think he did much wrong at that point to be dropped.

He was just unfortunate to have a Royals Royce of a player ahead of him in his position. Just because he’s not as good as him, does not mean he’s not good enough for the championship.

Ultimately I don’t know, but if Jones keeps him around then that’s good enough for me.
Erm yes it does mean he probably isn't good enough as a better player came in and we got promoted and the player in question was let go by a championship team.

Multiple teams in the Scottish prem would love to have Zach and the top sides in that league are championship quality
most coaches who have seen him think he will go far. He also has learnt from his big brother at Millwall
i think he will be the dark horse who comes through this season
Would they? Which clubs are these out of interest.

He played only 8 games in the Scottish Prem, of which he started 6. He seems to have some ability on the ball and a good passer, but this feels like a lot of pressure/expectations for a 20 year old who has less than 40 games in men's professional football to his name.

I can see he has potential, but he isn't ready to be a Championship footballer yet surely?

    Welcome Lewis Capaldi.
  • Probably bollocks but liked the look of him for a long time

    Of course they are.
You can see they're all queueing up to have their photo taken with it. 😁

I don't remember Mitchell being criticised like this when he was playing. Thought he was very good in the first half of the season. Wonder if he is actually just suffering from the comparison with Ramsey.
He didn’t do badly, but the style of football we played in the second half of the season would not have been possible with him in the side. Yes Ramsay is miles better, but we are in the championship, we need players that are miles better than Mitchell if we are to stay up

I’d be shocked if he’s in the squad come September and if he is I doubt he will play many minutes at all

I mean Kanye Ramsey was let go by Southampton when they were in the premiership.

But either way it’s false equivalence.
  • Sorry thought this was a rumours thread, I’ll go back to asking whether Mannion is up to the job or not
I like Currie too but that doesn’t make it a rumour :-)

Players can develop quickly, pre-season he will have his chance to stake a claim and Jones will have a look and decide if he’s ready.

He’s clearly a big fan of him and I can see why. Good on the ball, physically has got the size and pace, I think Jones just needs to do what he’s done with Gillesphey and unlock that front foot aggressive defending and then we will have a championship player

He got injured and missed several games at the end of the season.

The challenge Zach has is he plays in the same position as our two best players in Ramsay and Jones.

The Championship is a bigger step up, but we brought players like Cousins, Fox and Poyet through at this level with only Fox having a very short loan spell.

While the standard may have increased, the first two continued playing in the Championship for years after they left us. Poyet easily had the ability to had he wanted it enough.

The club will continue giving academy players a chance and this time next year it’s likely opinions on some of them will have changed for the better. Sometimes it just clicks for a player, and not all of them need a loan spell to get there.

You're all good, appreciate you trying to share something.

It's just that account is utter bullshit and has been making up transfer rumours for over 10 years now. Surprised it has so many followers and is still going for it.

Currie is a good player, he will get his chance at Oxford I reckon.

Mitchell was replaced by Ramsey a better player it's not rocket science is it,mitchell couldn't make the team in league one but is all of a sudden good enough for the championship, amazing.

As much as Mitchell’s lack of pace/agility for a wide centre back role would be a huge concern, the same is true of Gillesphey. There are some seriously good wide attackers in the championship, I think Gillesphey can step up but there will be some games and opponents he will struggle with so we need someone quicker and better 1v1 as an alternative.

Famewo is exactly that, quicker and much better defending 1v1. He’s not as good in the air or on the ball as Gillesphey is, but if we can keep him fit that’s a really good alternative option as he has different strengths
I don’t remember Famewo being this quick player a few people have described him as.

    Quite the opposite.

Akin is definitely quicker than the average centreback at Championship level.

Wow, people on the internet get so angry when someone have an different opinion to them.

    Again false equivalence though.

Ramsey is an incredible player, some on here even think he has the attributes to play in the premiership.

I don’t see why how good he is, has any bearing on what level Mitchell can play at.

I remember him being more of an athlete than a footballer which meant his decision making was slow.

Thought Famewo was very good for us and I was disappointed when he moved on. Felt he was also a work in progress but never a surprise he moved up a level. Take him along with the Mitchell twins/brothers and all good is that area, or thereabouts.

  • Zach, with his ability on the ball, could also play defensive midfield.
  • Probably bollocks but liked the look of him for a long time
...Adicts!!, I mean, at least try and get the spelling right ffs

Rod Stewart. At 80 he'll still be better than Ahadme.

Cawley mentioned on his podcast he’s heard (but not 100% confirmed) the players are back in training on 7th July.

It’ll be similar for other clubs, so it should mean players start to make decisions on who they sign for so they get a full preseason.
I think that's later than most. Sheff wed went back yesterday I believe.

I would imagine most are starting pre-season next week.
