Maybe Burstow could learn off Godden but beyond that I can’t see him improving enough to be a useful addition, his goal return isn’t impressive and don’t think he would push Leaburn/Godden/Tanto/TC. If that was the calibre of striker we were to sign we’d be better off keeping Kanu around
Can’t see him learning from Godden when he’s failed to improve at Chelsea with all of that quality around him.

Must do wonders for a striker getting to watch Nicholas Jackson every day in training...
Every time a 34+ year old gets linked with us they're automatically shit (Watson/Arter) in the eyes of many. We have had some very good experienced players at various times and I trust Jones a lot more than previous managers not to bring in a clown looking for an easy pay day.

Jorge Costa wooaaahhh. Di canio was still the bollox too.

Quality player. If it worked, we would have our very own Makelele for a pittance. Playing in that position, players can defy the passing years. cf Luka Modrić.
But even if our medical staff cleared him, he has a long history of falling out with management. Would Jones risk it?
Do solidarity payments happen if the transfer is within the same country, as Atalanta and Inter are?
I've just done some goggling and now I am not so sure.
I was under the impression that it didn't matter if it was in the same league, as long as it wasn't the same original nation, but Google smart search says otherwise.
So we might need Lookman to go to Barca (as rumoured as well) instead, that's a shame if so.
M'Vila could be an Arter or a Watson, but he could also be a Diarra or a Pratley
I think Alou Diarra is the only signing I can remember of this kind that has worked out in recent memory. Pratley was still playing regularly when we signed him. Andrew Hughes maybe?
Last post re: Lookman as I don't want to clog the thread, but I think we would still be entitled to a fee regardless if the move is still in the Italian league as it's an international fee?
Someone may know a lot more on here though and might be able to clear that up, it's quite conflicting online.

😬
Edit: we won't for Pope, my mistake, but would for Lookman who is looking likely to leave.
£1.2m from Lookman, even if not all in one go, is not to be sniffed at.
