Someone alluded to sell-ons sometimes going beyond the initial buying club. I wonder if we are due any money from Pope's move to Leeds?
We will get a solidarity/development fee, same as for Lookman who looks like he is off to Inter Milan for 40 million:

Edit: we won't for Pope, my mistake, but would for Lookman who is looking likely to leave.

Would Waterloo FC not be entitled to some money? That calculation looks like it is assuming he was with us from the age of 12 which isn’t correct

Ademola was 16 when he came to CAFC and his representatives chose us because they wanted to know that if he continued to progress he would get 1st team chances by 18 and that came to fruition when Lookman made his debut a month after his 18th birthday.
I have no idea if Waterloo will get anymore money as I don't know the exact terms but it may be unlikely other than a donation as this will be his 5th move since he left his boyhood club plus Fulham and Leicester on loan.
I knew a close friend of his from his Waterloo days, Ryan Gondoh who is at Whyteleafe said Ademola was so small when he played with the year above and that's why he was turned down after having trials at different London clubs.
Lookman reached 5ft 9in eventually and at 27 is now being successful in Italy after a hit and miss time in the Premier.

A solidarity fee gets paid every international movement, no matter how many clubs and moves happen I believe.  The only reason I doubt Waterloo get one is that they are so small we would have heard about previous ones as it would have been transformational for them.
  • I'm happy that we are still getting some money, but the solidarity fee concept seems quite bizarre.

When a 34 year old Lookman moves from an Italian club to a German one for €50k, will we STILL be entitled to a cut? Along with everyone else?
  • Getting close, I can feel it!
    Take more Senokot...🙄
  • Apter, done deal
    Aannounced tomorrow
    Thing is tomorrow never comes...
  • Championship rules allow squad  of 25 must include 8 homegrown players … interesting that Birmingham have to lose 6 players or risk breaking the rules …

Happy for them to give Scottish born Marc Leonard to us if he would fit the description of a non home grown player they need to ‘lose’.

EDIT: doesn’t look like it matters where the player was born. If they have played in the English or Welsh league for 3 or more years before the age of 21 they count as home grown (so Leonard would count as a home grown player having spent years at Brighton when younger)

Mental how our fan base goes on like Karoy is a jobber who's lucky to play when he scored a vital goal in keeping us up at Derby when Nathan first came in, and put in a proper shift every time he touched the pitch for us last season. Sure, he's not perfect technically and can get it wrong sometimes, but I thought as a club we were all for players giving 110%, particularly academy boys who keep developing and getting better.
Apart from leaburn I'd rate him our next best youngster, sure he has erratic moments but he also has moments of quality too and an engine with the  ability to hassle players none of our midfield have to that level imo I reckon he will proper come good someday.

I do have some anxiety about how there’s no like-for-like cover for Coventry. I suspect I’m not alone.
    Zach Mitchell , Bell , Doc ..
I know you are a complete and utter troll, but in what world are any of them 3 "like-for-like" cover for Coventry? But then again, you once thought Chris f**king Gunter was good enough to be first choice left-back at one stage. So yeah, trolling or mental.
If he is trolling DD, he's hooked you right in fella, it's not worth getting excited about.

I wasn't all that aware that in an allowed squad of 25 six have to be home grown players.
I make that AMB, Miles, TC, Karoy, Zach and either Kanu or M'Bick.
Is there a ruling covering other home grown players in relation to the first team, that might apply to Enslin and Fullah as a couple of examples?

It'll be the majority of the squad... Home Grown means coming through an Academy here in England (maybe even Britain as a whole), rather than Charlton itself

Someone like Dixon might not be eligible as "home grown" as we signed him from Jamaica, but then he played for our U21s, which is part of the Academy

  • Thanks fellas.
  • In the English Football League (EFL) Championship, clubs can register a squad of up to 25 players, with at least eight of those players needing to be homegrown. Homegrown players are defined as those registered with any English or Welsh club for at least three seasons before their 21st birthday, regardless of nationality. Additionally, a maximum of five loan players can be named in the matchday squad.
    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    • Squad Size: Championship clubs can have squads of up to 25 players.
    • Homegrown Players: At least eight players in the squad must be homegrown.
    • Under-21 Players: Clubs can have an unlimited number of Under-21 players on permanent contracts without registering them.
    • Loan Players: A maximum of five loan players can be named in the matchday squad. Loan players, even if under 21, must be registered with the EFL.
    • Goalkeepers: Unlike the lower leagues, goalkeepers over the age of 21 in the Championship must be registered as part of the 25-man squad.
    • Club Developed Players: After the summer transfer window, each club must include at least one club-developed player in their squad.
    • Substitutes: Championship clubs can name five substitutes from a nine-player bench.
So Dixon, Edwards, Kam, and Doc aren't home grown.

I think we'll be alright on the home grown and the at least one club developed rules.
  • How is the club developed player defined?

When Brentford were in the EFL they had no proper academy, so how could they develop anyone?

They had that "B" team though didnt they...
