Be interesting to see who we are in for, the Mulligan one seems to fit in with shopping over the border for the likes of Edwards.
Amari'i Bell, as others mentioned, would seem to be another angle of going for previous players Jones has worked with and covers left side of defense.
Imagine we will have to box clever if getting any Championship players. Central midfield and attack obviously need boosting. Wondered if someone like Adam Randell at Plymouth would be someone we'd look at in midfield who might be a possible now they've been relegated. And Sam Greenwood, on loan at Preston and Boro from Leeds last few seasons, but seemingly former not taking up buying option and with Leeds promotion imagine be available. Would both seem to be young players with Championship experience who might be possible options.
Exciting times for once anyway! Look forward to refreshing this thread a million times between now and September!
I'd have no issues with Mannion as our No 1 next season - money can be better spent elsewhere I think, although I do think we need another keeper, don't rate AMB enough to compete
That's the point I think - AMB isn't good enough so should be sold, so we need another keeper.
We should be aiming to get a better keeper than Mannion rather than just a back-up, as constant improvement is important. If we try that and Mannion then proves the better of the two and carries on improving, great.

Would still be pleased if we brought in an experienced senior GK but in the last year I think Mannion has improved perhaps enough to convince Jones that he’s good enough to be No 1 at a Championship club. I’m not at all sure that’s the case with AMB who we would need to rely on if Mannion got an injury. On that basis I still think we need to bring in a GK who is at least as good if not better than Mannion.
I found it interesting yesterday that my stepdad highlighted Mannion.
He's a Norwich City season ticket holder and he was asking how many players he thinks we will keep and said "for instance I wonder if you'll keep that keeper of yours Mannion, he's better than anyone we have at Norwich so I imagine he will have championship interest."
He watched all 3 play-off games rooting for us and Mannion really impressed him.
Maybe a bit off a reach but that Emma woman on a Charlton you tube live just now reckons she's got inside info on us having something done with wickens the Lincoln keeper.
I thought that, 'Emma woman' was the BBC London person that used to do poor football commentaries.

Not our beloved Emma from The Chronicles.
Rich is has been gone two days and we are already resorting to this
Firstly it seems Mannion won the debate about who should be our number 1. I feel that he is a level above AMB. So what happens to Ashley because imho we need two keepers of Championship calibre.
Is it a different ask that it was last summer? Do we need a recognised number one anymore? It feels to me that Wickens would compete with Mannion rather than replace him.
In terms of experienced keepers there will probably be lots of options out there.
When called upon Mannion has proved himself to be very capable and reliable, particularly in dealing with crosses etc., but do think our back three have meant that he has not been called into as much action as otherwise would be the case in say the Championship.
How many times did we see the like of Ramsay or Gillesphy in last ditch tackles or Jones’ head diving near calf level to clear a ball that would otherwise have required a save.
The Championship will be a sterner test and wish Will the very best in stepping up to it. The ingredients appear to be there. I would also not discard Ash btw, he has been as consistent as Mannion when called upon.

Wouldn't be surprised if you see a couple from the Scottish Leagues, Jones has a great track record of players from over the boarder!
Let's see what the owners have this window.. Personally, I think we need 5 or 6 good signings.. Certainly need to strengthen in the middle of the park, and the top of the pitch.. Not to worried about the Keeper. WM is good enough for the championship and the way we play!
I think we’ll go for a new GK. Mannion has been well protected, especially in recent games. I think there’s still question marks over how good his shot stopping is.
If we are in for a keeper and also looking north of the border, Mitov has had a decent season, capped by the cup win at the weekend.

I wonder if we'll look outside of the domestic market for a striker to try and find better " value". Could be an interesting route to look to Europe for.
This is going to be a bit of a bizarre comment. Not a player suggestion but how about this….Nathan Jones to Cardiff and Lee Bowyer to us? Worth a punt? 🫤
A lot of players mentioned have been those we have seen the last season or two.
All very well but shouldn’t we be looking at those with more proven and accomplished standards. Hope I’ve expressed myself clearly…..we are now a Championship team…..so let’s endeavour to attract a few household names.

Of course fans on a forum will mention players that they have seen.
But fans don't do the recruitment, Phil Chapple and Nathan Jones do and they will be aware of players at all levels and in this country and abroad.
As for "household names" I doubt very much we'll see any of them until we reach the premier league again.

Honestly I don't see there being many "household" names necessarily but I do agree that more proven players are needed. Players like Mulligan (whether or not he really is a specific target) will probably be the majority - Not that well known by most casual fans but well regarded by those who HAVE heard of him (as opposed to L1/L2 "prospects", though Ramsay does prove that market isn't a complete no-go.)

I think you're going to be pretty disappointed.
We're a newly promoted club with one of, if not the smallest wage bill in the division. In what world are we going to be signing household names?
Although i guess it depends on your definition of a household name.

To put it politely, what the hell are you smoking?
Peterborough have announced the signing of Kyrell Lisbie - He's had quite the rise back up the pyramid given he scored Cray Valley's penalty against us two years ago.

There have been murmurings re Jones to Cardiff….that’s one part of the equation. Secondly, Bow has been spotted at The Valley and even away games a fair few times of late, hobnobbing with some pretty high flyers into the bargain. Understand some of you thinking it’s unlikely but stranger things can and indeed have happened in the world of football on a regular basis.

I think this would be a conversation if we didn't go up, promotion has probably put that to bed.
Jones wants to challenge himself at the highest level. He openly loves Cardiff, but I can't imagine him wanting to give up on this project and dropping a league in doing so.
No chance of us getting Kone imo. Personally not keen anyway, absolute little prick in those semi final games and has been found out against teams that can defend.
Personally would love Kone, 21, runs the channels, hardworking, a nightmare to defend against and would fit into jones’ team ethos. Reminds me of Lyle Taylor - absolute bastard to play against. I do agree, however, no chance of us getting him, have a feeling he’ll be going to a top championship club or a lower prem club that might want to take a gamble.

That's a future problem to worry about.
