Would see this more as a physical striker to take the role they'd usually have Elijah Adebayo for given he's out with an ACL tear. Don't think necessarily this would stop them signing Kelman
3 million is cheap for a striker who just netted 21 goals in the league alone (27 all comps!), and he's only 23.
For context, Josh Sargent who is 25 and only scored 15 at a level above, nearly went to Wolfsburg for 24 million, fee agreed, move rejected. Admittedly, he has had 2 seasons now where he has proven himself, at a level above, but that's still a massive price difference and makes 3 million seem a healthy gamble.
If Kelman now replicates a similar season, he will be worth upwards of 10 million.
I think people need to start getting their heads around some of these fees being polite, players who are in their early to mid twenties who are in form in the championship and league 1 are worth millions, especially as a forward. You don't get proper quality for small fees.
You are paying for
- His sell on potential - To avoid competition from other clubs - A potential goal return
And when it's all said and done, it isn't our money. Surely there should just be excitement around signing a player that outperformed all of our forwards in the same league last season?
Think the fee concerns are more because he has 12 months left on his contract, if it was 2/3 years then the £3m would be more reasonable
That's also 12 months we potentially get to see of a player earlier, and if his contract was up, we would have far more competition.
It doesn't matter if he has 1 year or 10 years, we need quality now and he is an option.
How many Bayern fans do you think care right now their club spent 100 million on Harry Kane with a year left? I'm willing to bet not many.
We spend our cash to be entertained and watch good footballers, if our owners can afford it, and our manager believes he improves us, who gives a bollocks about how much the fee was and how long he had on his contract, it's not our money and we can't control it.
If we stay up he's worth a lot more than 3 million to us, if we don't, we have a proven top league 1 striker for next season, win win.
Perhaps it’s a bit like our running joke that “ he’s signing for Preston” we’re signing a lot of players and I’m guessing it’s something like that.
That's all I could think of, but it just seems strange they've both mentioned a failed medical, and do we really look that way to the rest of the league?
We always needed a juice up.
Hoping now that cools Pompeys interest in Knibbs, and I can't see Oxford getting him, they look very slow this window.

Maybe they’re referencing something about Knibbs? I’m clutching at straws here
If he failed his medical then why on earth have the Pompey comms team pictured him in their shirt in their stand. Nothing to see here.
That's why I am asking if anyone had heard we were linked with this player..
If he failed one here and Pompey signed him, etc, just curious why our name has popped up.
Probably just some sort of inside joke that only makes sense for them. If it was a player we were ACTUALLY signing you would probably find the same jokes made but about Preston.

New Pompey midfielder is a DM/CM according to FM, which doesn’t suggest he’s an alternative to Knibbs.
Probably that we sign a lot of players with historical injuries, mainly from Luton. I think a few YouTubers have mentioned we like signing crocked defenders
Apart from forums, I haven’t seen us linked with Kelman..
I am not sure he is a championship player. From what I have seen, he is slow, touch not that great, not very good in the air. Looks an okay finisher.. I am sure someone going to send some stats on him.
Be prepared to be disappointed then as I am hearing the deal is almost done.
Almost done or about to be announced soon ?
I'm hearing it's at the medical stage. If true I would expect it to be announced on Monday.
Thanks for sharing Blackpool - We've certainly dipped into the market in a way I certainly didn't expect, and if Kelman is joining, well a couple of weeks ago I'd have laughed at the prospect of him coming here.
Should the worst happen, and we get relegated, and don't get gutted with outgoings, you'd like to think that we're equally building a team that would immediately be able to compete well in League One again next season. I'm getting less and less concerned about that prospect though.
Trouble is we're building a team on championship wages & even if there's a clause re salary reduction upon relegation I think there'll be a stampede for the door & we'll be starting all over again should we be relegated.
I can't say I'm blown away with the signings but lets hope "the sum is greater than the parts". This is I guess the way to go for a newly promoted team, keeping it tight & solid though I'm still hoping for an out & out striker because whether Godden again can still do it at this level I don't know, Coventry decided otherwise. We shall see.

It is that, but not quite the same as the Preston joke.
Aside from the games against us, where he didn't really stand out, and his 30 yards offside goal in the play-off semi, I haven't seen a lot of Kelman (like I say for all our other signings/targets). I, therefore, have no idea how good he is or isn't. If he is good, it's a bit weird QPR don't want him, but I also don't read too much into that as clubs get it wrong about players on their books all the time. Something about this rumour still smells fishy to me, but if we do end up signing him, as a newly promoted club who are spending some money, but don't have huge amounts of cash to burn either, I'm not sure we can be much more ambitious than signing the previous season's top scorer in the league you were just promoted from.

Oxford have just signed Luke Harris and their record Jan signing apparently plays in the 10 as well so they won’t be going for Knibbs. Judging by NJ saying he wasn’t sure we would get to 10 signings makes me thinks Knibbs isn’t happening. If u were unsure of wanting a CAM or not u wouldn’t be dropping 2.5M just like that because I doubt it would be Knibbs or nothing. I assume it would be Kelman Lembikisa and if a prem loan market open ups late and someone like Donley is going for cheap then we be looking at another CAM or maybe even a LWB

I wouldn’t listen to Jones too much with things like that, he keeps his cards very close to his chest.
Anyone remember the chatter a window or two ago around Mihaly Kata (shirt #6) from MTK in Hungary? Looks like this bloke who just signed for Portsmouth was his midfield partner (shirt #8)...

ITK can work both ways, you’ll be well up the league table if you call this too.
