I've noticed people have already mentioned the Robert Enke book but I can't recommend it enough. Gets into the psychology of not just goalkeepers but all players when they start feeling the pressure. One players wife said to him 'your're only normal when you're injured'. Can completely change your outlook on footballers as a whole this book0

Almost finished Blood's A Rover by James Ellroy. One of his more accessible novels, especially when compared to the strange staccato style of the previous book in the 'American Tabloid' trilogy, The Cold Six Thousand.0

I've read Never had it so good and White Heat also. I think Sandbrook is taking it to 79 and possibly further. Sandbrook was useful to read at Uni when I did an essay on the Sixties as a conservative decade and another one on comparisons between race relations in the uk and us during the 60s.
If you like that kind of thing, you would enjoy David Kynaston's series "Tales of A New Jerusalem" . First one is Austerity Britain 1945-51 and the next Family Britain 1951-1959 (I think). He's going to run it up to 1979.Dominic Sandbrook - the way we were: Britain 1970-74

Really good mix of politics, popular culture, archirtecture etc etc with very well-selected quotes from letters and diaries of ordinary people.
I've got through the boring chapter on Environmentalism, after that came Ulster and Immigration, far more interesting. On to the Unions now. Poor old Heath he didn't have much luck.0 -
Just finished We Need To Talk About Kevin. Didn't think I was going to get into it at first with the way the story was told in the form of letters to the womans husband. A very modern dark tale told in a unique way and well worth reading. Can't wait for it to come out on DVD as missed it at the cinema.0

Reading 'The Burning Shore' by Wilbur Smith. Some of his older books are a bit dated but they're always full of blood and guts action and a good read. Usually historical fiction based on Africa.0
