So true - happens everytime ! Problem is English football is so tribal that the majority of people care about their club much more than the national team so for 18 months they just hope their club signs the best player, often at the expense of English talent. Then the squad for a tournament is announced and they say "oh God, we're rubbish-let's do something about this" but as you say it's all forgotten with the resumption of the league campaign.
