So Peanuts......looks like it could be a Braves v Cards Wild Card play off! How you thinking this will go?

Bit previous Dan, last 6 games for us vs Nats and Reds, albeit at home.
However, Braves 5-1 vs the Cards this season and with home advantage. Would be a "brave" man to call it for the Cards......then again, there is the ghost of 2011 ;o)

You'd think the Nats might ease off now with the division practically secured....well I hope they ease completely off and the Braves steal the title on the last day!

    This season is pay back!

    Lets go chipper!!!

Just three games to go now.

In American league East Yanks and Baltimore neck and neck, Texas just holding in the West while Chicago White Sox have blown a big lead to allow Detroit to take a two game lead in the Central.

Either New York or Balimore will take one wild card and Oakland "moneyball" Athletics the other.

The national league is nearly sown up. Cincinnati walked the central, Giants the West and Washington are about to win the East.

Atlanta Braves have taken one of the wild cards and the Cardinals need one game more to take the other.
  • As a Red Sox fan, I obviously want the Orioles to pip the Yanks. Think it would also do the division some good to see them have a spell at the top.

Fell just short in the end, our failure to beat the likes of the Padres and the Rockies when we should be walking all over them cost us in the end

Great gesture by the Marlins to give Adam Greenberg an one game contract so he can play a major league game after being struck on the head in his first ever at bat seven years ago.

    Great story!

2 games left and a still alot to be decided in the AL. Only Detroit have tied up their division. Yankees & Rangers cling to 1 game division leads. AL East has a strange look to it this year with Boston likely to finish last! They took a hammering last night in NY. Gave up 9 runs in 2nd innings.......Baltimore not letting up. Amazing turnaround there!

NL is all set bar one wild card spot, with only a major disaster preventing the cards from taking that.

Blue Jays smashed it in Spring Training: 24W-7L. I'm going to predict they'll finish ahead of the Red Sox. Will that be enough to make the Postseason, I doubt it.

and for my next prediction, Charlton will be promoted AND win the FA Cup this season :-)

Can't believe the Rangers blew it last game after leading all season.

Shame Baltimore couldn't beat the Yanks but there you go.

Fancy Detroit (head) v St Loius (heart) world series.

  • Harder for the wildcards this year, think they play their one off games Friday night. The Division winners get 3 nights off before they start up on Sunday. Yep, feel sorry for the Rangers, they contributed so much to a great world series last year. That said they are still favourites.

Yankees battered Boston again (14-2), but Baltimore's defeat made that irrelevant. Red Sox have had a awful year, I'm sure that was Bobby Valentines last game in charge. Feel a little sorry for him, the shots of the dug out after game told the whole story. None of the players acknowledged him as they went to the locker room.

The charlton life St Louis clique better be ready for disappointment, because the Braves will win on Friday.

    As for the Postseason:

The Yankees have hit form at exactly the right time - think Iceman out of Top Gun (no mistakes)

The Tigers have the best pitcher, best hitter.

The Rangers have been so close the last two years, but have just been swept by...

The A's, who but for their late-season surge, won't have enough to challenge. I expect a heart breaking end Moneyball-style.

Baltimore are interesting: consistently good all season but not fashionable enough for the media (remind you of anybody?)... have held their own against the big teams. but even if they beat Texas, I'd expect NY to be a bridge too far.

    Yanks-Tigers for the ALCS.

    The National League is less interesting/exciting for me to write about. I'll let one of you Cards fans enlighten us on the NL : }

Looking forward to reading this thread over the next month!

Tigers for me, picked them at the start so go to stick with them now. Would love to see Baltimore do it especially after this season but feel they will come up a litle short.

As always though I will be firmly ABNY

Don't concern yourself with us Chief. Two World Series Championships since 2006 - Cards' fans will still be riding high regardless of what happens tonight.
    Enjoy ;o)

Cardinal Nation on the march again.

  • its your fecking fault Henry, I had no interest in baseball until you started this thread, I choose the Braves not knowing anything about the game and find myself, every morning at 6am checking the mlb website to see how they got on, and now finding myself getting pissed off when they lose. What makes it worse is the amount of cards fans on here. Can I ask why the cards ?

I have family in the states who live just outside St Loius so I naturally adopted their team and went to see them when over there.

Other than me and Peanuts, who else is a Cards fan?

Good thing about Baseball is that every team has a good season every couple of years (apart from the Cubs obviously)

Bad luck Dan. Definitely wrong call by the umpire on that "infield" fly. Can't see our bullpen doing the biz this post-season.
  • well the Braves don't getting pissed off with US SPORT, I thought the draft picks in American Football were supposed to make it more level however the poxy Raiders aint done anything since I was 13

The fans may have let Atlanta down last night but got to hand it to the great Chipper Jones on his swansong. No bitching or moaning about decisions (take note professional footballers and managers):
"Ultimately, I think that when we look back on this loss, we need to look at ourselves in the mirror. We put ourselves in that predicament, down 6-2. You know, that call right there is kind of a grey area. I don't know. But I'm not willing to say that that particular call cost us the ballgame. Ultimately, three errors cost us the ballgame, mine probably being the biggest."
    Class.

it was a great game, i can totally understand the fans frustration. imagine last game of the season and we need to win to go up and the ref dissalows a perfectly good goal for us in injury time to stop as winning, i and many others would go nuts. Come on the giants.
