  • Just found out my boss at work is the mother of the Arizona Diamondbacks Pitcher, Joe Saunders.

No idea if he's any good or not, as never watch Baseball. Someone on this thread might have heard of him though, so thought I'd share.
  • Just booked my tickets to the penultimate game of the season at Fenway, shame it probably won't mean anything the way it is going
I wouldnt think that just yet. No the Red Sox are not breaking records at present, but it is a funny AL East this year. Sox and Yanks struggling and Orioles up top - but the Sox are only 6 odd games back which in mid May doesnt mean a great deal.
  • I don't want to base it just on how the season has gone so far but the pitching has been absolutely terrible. Ellsbury has been a big loss as well. Like you say though bit of a weird season, can't see Orioles having the stamina to go the distance

Mediocre at best. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/saundjo01.shtml Pretty sure he threw a no-hitter once, though.

(Also, as far as allegiances go, devout Braves fan. Anybody who mentions Jim Leyritz to me gets a stern look.)
  • Good to see the dbacks getting some airtime on espn tonight, setting up to be a high scoring game
  • Oh and saunders is pitching tonight as well
  • Why get exicted about the Yank version of Rounders
  • Why get exicted about the Yank version of Rounders
Because it's better than sitting in a hovel refusing to acknowledge the fact that there are other sports out there that can be enjoyed? I follow all the major american sports, as well as football, cricket, speedway, Formula 1, Indycar, Nascar, tennis and golf. Just because you don't understand something, doesn't make it wrong for someone else to.

Besides, rounders is a completely different sport
  • Just got back from NY. Saw two games of Yankees v Mets.

Really great stadium, well worth going.

Bit of a corporate hell in one respect though, a pint was $11!
  • Cardinals have been dismal of late. Another late season surge?

  • Good to see the Dodgers continuing their good satart despite defeat by the Angels yesterday. Still a long way to go but they still have the best record in the Majors at 39 - 23 and a 4.5 Game lead over the Giants in the NL West.
  • Cubs have started the rebuilding process after signing Jorge Soler, beating a lot of teams for his signature. We need to do something, on course for the worst season in history.
  • I'm going to see the Chicago Cubs in July when I'm out there on a work trip, Wrigley Stadium??

I know diddly squat about baseball
  • Wrigley Field. That's a great place to watch a game, old school stadium. Some great bars around there. Murphys Bleachers Bar I remember being good. They are a poor team but have amazing support. Someone said Wrigley Field is the biggest open air bar in Chicago.
  • Went to the Braves v Yankee's game last night....absolutely gutted at the end. NYY fans all over the stadium sitting quiet for 6 innings and then in your face loud New Yorkers when they turned it around. Baseballs equivalent of Tottenham fans.
  • Love the Yankees, Kano is a great player, as is Swisher.
  • Been watching a bit of the CWS on ESPN the past week, Ramsey, the centre fielder from Florida State looks like he will be a major star in MLB. Turned down the Twins in the draft last year to complete some 'unfinished business' with FSU, now he has been drafted by the Cardinals, seems to have a great eye on home plate, is pretty nippy round the bases and has a whack on him to boot.
  • How comes the AL has 14 teams and the NL has 16 teams?
This leads to one division having only 4 teams in and one in the NL having 6 teams.

Surely the teams in the 4 team division have more chance of winning the division and thus getting into the play offs ?
  • I think the Brewers are moving over to the AL from next season, not sure on the reasons why there is a difference at the moment but I'm sure those with more knowledge will know
  • I also never understood why Pittsburgh are in NL Central, whilst Atlanta (much further west) are in east?

The Astros are moving from NL central to the AL West next year so all 6 divisions (3xAL/3xNL) will have 5 teams.

Imagine it is to keep certain historic divisional rivalries over a more precise geographical name.

  • Same as having the dallas cowboys in the nfc east so they can keep playing the redskins twice a year
  • So halfway through the season.....

What are peoples thoughts on how it's going? Predictions for the World Series?

    Yankee's looking strong.

Surprised by the Nationals and surely the Phillies have to improve in the 2nd half right?
  • Not a baseball fan, but went to see the Boston Red Sox vs Baltimore last month whilst I was in Boston for business.

Going to see the 'Giants' next week in San Francisco, but I've no idea who they are!
  • My thoughts, Prince Fielder's Home Run Derby win was great, and Trumbo has the talent to be a mega hitter. Cano failing to hit a single homer was epic as well!

Oh you mean the actual season? Erm Diamondbacks are pretty meh right now, won 42 lost 43 so hopefully a win tonight will bring us back to being a .500 club, and we can try and push on from there

Bucs in St Louis tonight for the start of a key 3-game series in the contest for one of the 2 NL Wild Card slots - mind you with Atlanta currently occupying one of them and the Giants losing Cabrera (naughty boy), both NL Central rivals should probably make it ;o)
Nowt on tele cos flippin ESPN America think we want to watch wall-to-wall Little League........ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
However Red Sox in the Bronx for the live Sunday night game, always tasty despite Boston's current malaise.
  • Nothinhs changed here, still a .500.club, 6 back from a wildcard spot

  • A series against the Astros always helps though ;o)
Kind of a shame they move to the AL next season.....still there's always the Cubs.
  • Heading to the Braves v Dodgers in a couple of hours, hope Sir Chipper Jones can carry on his amazing form!
