Have just found my old book: 'British Record Charts 1955 to 1975'. It gives the top 30 for every week of those years. I'll start looking from 1965 but it could take some time as I'll have to hum a bit of each one and see if there's a ship's hooter in it. I'll keep you posted on progress. Getting worried Big Rob?

There is a "woo woo" in sympathy for the devil".

Or funky like a train by the Equals
  • Not as much fun but some stations publish a track listing for the show don't they?

Trouble is I cant remember which radio station :(

Its not any of the popular beat combos of the time, as i said its a Mungo Jerry type male singer was it a novelty song I dont think so, but that bass note is so unusual and the song was built around it - gonna google a few suggestions above

Oh and i dont think its anything with a nautical theme, just the bass note has that ships horn kind of deep sound....

So it's not a Phil Specter type wall of sound job then, more folky?

Kind of quirky folky, the sound of 67-70 i would say. Its none of the above but seriously impressed that there are songs referenced that contain actual ships horns....

    This thread is hilarious.

I've just thought of a song. Can anyone guess what it is? If you do I'll eat an aircraft carrier.

  • Dont you get Shazam in Canada ?

This is driving us all crazy, You know we are all going to be really disappointed when you tell us what it is .!
  • Just had a listen to a couple of suggestions and from the clues it must be Urban Spaceman. Not exactly Mungo Jerry-like though. Now listening to the rest of my Bestiality Of The Bonzos album.

  • As someone else mentioned, its not likely to be an English(british) band if played on Canadian Radio.
Blood Sweat and Tears was a good call.
