Root up to 4 ahead of Bell?
  • Root up to 4 ahead of Bell?

Bell's still back in the hotel; feeling ill apparently.

To me, Root at 4, then Bell at 5 has more balance - dont get the 2 'rookies' Root and Bairstow together.

91-2 at tea then. 116 lead.

    Trott 25* and Root 28*

Root bowled by Southee for 71.

159-3, looking good now as long as we don't have a collapse.

Prior gone now for 0. What did I say two posts ago?

171-5. Finn in as nightwatchman, seems odd at 5 down?

Poor finish to the day, thought a couple of them were treating it as a training game and was outright disappointed in Compton. Pitch looks heavy

Dont think Compton is good enough for this level. Would rather have Root opening when KP comes back.

watched this mornings play and heard a bit after lunch on the way to a date (more of that on another thread - lol) . Left the car with us 50-2 and was pleasantly surprised that on getting back to the car & driving home we were now 160 -3.............only then to hear 3 wickets fall during the 30 min drive home !!

I think we need a lead of at least 250........300 would be nice. They have a couple of dangerous players who can pile up the runs very quickly. Just hope Broad can find his batting form and with Swann can add a few runs tomorrow morning.

In recent years Lord's has tended get better for batting the longer a Test lasts but this wicket seems to be taking a lot of turn and when there's a bit of cloud cover it's swinging.

Swann should bowl well on it and if there is cloud cover then Anderson should bowl well. Even Stuart Broad bowled well today but then he and England pitched the ball up a lot further than they did yesterday.

Another 50 runs and providing that the wicket doesn't flatten overnight then England should have enough firepower to force a win.

I am also concerned that Lords traditionally gets flatter as the game goes on, whilst Root and Trott were batting yesterday it didnt seem to be doing much, then there was a clatter of wickets.Next new ball is available in 21 overs, if we can get through to then , then we should have scored another 60 runs - that should be enough.Should be an exciting days play though - all it needs is for 1 Kiwi batsman to play a bog innings and then we could be in tro

Broad in - 8 down fairly soon then.

One of the things i really dont comprehend about these games is why a midlle-aged man has a need to hold up a card when it goes for 4 - we all know its gone for a four or six you dick.!

I reckon the ball will swing and spin. kiwis will be all out for less than 200.

Turn for Williamson - lotsof foot-holes outside off stump that Swanny should be able to capitalise on.
