Not the best fan of test cricket , but my brother woke me up earlier so i thought i'd watch it , i have to say enjoyed it a lot. Well played Monty and broad ! But Matt Prior's knock was heroic, was lucky a few times thoe.
Only the third time a team has survived apparently going into the final day of a test with 4 down..... 237 for 7 @ tea but Broad and Anderson (2balls)fell in the 4th over before close .. Prior 110 not out and Panesar faced 5 balls to survive!! So we stay 2nd above India in Test rankings...... Broad faced 62 balls(103 mins a test record) before getting off the mark and Prior hit all the runs to get to their 50 partnership lol ..... Broad got given out twice but reviewed and survived twice .... Monty nearly got run out for mistiming a dive to make his ground!!... Prior had survived being given out (review showed inside edge) a tough missed catch and the ball hitting shoulder, helmet then rolling on to stumps without dislodging bails !!
Can anyone find the clip of Monty's quick single & dive ?
Yes I would like to see that, sounded hilarious on the commentary. i like Monty a thoroughly entertaining cricketer, akin to a 60's player who is only in the team for one skill (bowling spin in his case - although has failed in this series) and absolutely crap at everything else.
Lets not forget how bad England have been overall in this series against a very average NZ Team
For Prior to keep wicket as well as he does AND then come out to produce a match saving century is astonishing.
The worrying thing is that, as VC, if Cook was to drop out would he then become captain as well? Alec Stewart ended up in that situation, with a horrendous workload.
A good recovery. It means we stay 2nd in the world rankings. If we had lost, we would have slipped below India, which would have been annoying having beaten them twice recently.
Match drawn, thanks to the TV microphone in the middle stump. When the ball bounced off Prior & onto the stumps, it didn't dislodge the bails, as the impact was cushioned by the padding surrounding the camera.
Great finish to the test, up there with the Ashes series in 2005 ?
I wasn't complaining & I sat up all night watching it ! Did make me laugh that Sky continued to countdown how mnay runs were needed for the win until the bitter end, even when it was physically impossible (5 overs left - 181 runs needed)
Into the last 15 overs I thought we would do it, then my heart sunk when Broad edged one into the slips & couldn't believe it when Anderson done the very same thing 2 balls later !!
what an evenings entertainment - who said test crisket was boring.........that was better than any 20/20 game you'll see.
We were lucky only to lose just 1 wicket - NZ dropped 2 catches in the last over !
I laughed out loud when those catches went down, the barmy army trumpeter started playing the circus juggling music almost before the ball hit the ground.
Just been reading that NZ cricketer Jesse Ryder was attacked and suffered a fractured skull and collapsed lung and is in intensive care. Wish him a full speedy recovery.

I may be doing him a disservice, but doesn't he attract trouble like the Joey Bartons of this world ?
Comparing him to Barton is probably being unfair to Barton, but let's hope he can recover and turn his life around. He's 28, so has a few more years of cricket to make the most of, as it's a long retirement

#monty should become #Eng batting coach. Model of calmness under pressure

That and Atherton's knock of 185 NO at the Wanderers in 1995, that was against a much better attack than NZ's.
