I'm going on Saturday, hope it's better than todays shambles

Forecast is a lot of rain I'm afraid.
Seems Sunday might be a wash out almost, with showers likely for the other days so I put £25 on a draw.
Just have to hope the weather doesn't change and NZ batsmen grind it out ;-)
  • Havnt seen the highlights but maybe they are concerned about the first test syndrome - as they have a habit recently of not doing well in the first test of series - as Cook has mentioned.
160-4 might not be a bad score once we see NZ batting, Average 1st innings score at Lords is apparently 315 - so, we're not that far off. Glad i'm not going though, amazing that Lords is sold out for 1st 4 days - thats about 110,000 paying customers - if its an average of 50 squid then thats 5 and a half million quid on gate receipts alone -and i know when i go to Lords that i always end up spending a hefty whack on drinky-poos.No wonder they spent so much money on drainage so that they could ensure 15 overs is played and therefore no refunds.

£50?!!! They saw you all coming.....
  • cheapest tickets £45 for this, but not sitting that far away from us were tickets for £69. In the Compton. It aint cheap, but it is potentially all day entertainment.

cheapest Ashes tickets I'm sure are 60ish....
  • Entertainment...if you're a Kiwi...
  • To be fair, I'd be surprised if NZ set the world alight when they bat later. Good bowling conditions and the new outfield is painfully slow.
  • 209-8 at lunch. Bairstow 29 not out...
  • I'm glad my computers not working today.....sounds even worse than yesterday!
  • Anderson has 2 wickets already.

    NZ 22-2
  • 112/3

All three to Anderson who now has 301 Test wickets.
  • can you bring beer in with you at Lords? When I go to the oval for Surrey you can bring 4 cans in but not sure if it's the same at Lords and for Internationals.

NZ 153-4 when bad light stops play...

You always have been able to & could last year. I think it said 3 pints max, so 4 cans. The back of your tickets should say.

    e. Small quantities of alcohol may be brought into the Ground, under the supervision of MCC who reserve the right to confiscate any quantity of alcohol from any spectator, and return it to such spectator at the end of the day’s play.

The MCC Committee has set a limit of two pints of beer or one 75cl bottle of wine per spectator. Amounts of alcohol in excess of the limit will be confiscated. Under no circumstances will any spectator be admitted to the Ground if in possession of spirits or re-admitted to the Ground at any time during the day if he or she is in possession of any alcohol.

NB If you're getting out at St Johns Wood, on the 7 min walk to the ground, there is a road of shops half way there, on a left turn & there is a Tesco express there. That's where I get them.
  • risk it with 4 cans? can't see them having a problem with that to be honest. worst that can happen is they nick one off me. will go to that tesco express cheers

yes, 4 cans, or 1 bottle of wine or equiv.
  • Or 3 bottles of cider per person which is what we took in.
  • cheers people, lets hope for a better days cricket for England than the last couple! McCullum has a big part to play in which way it goes tomorrow
  • i normally take 4 cans of Sapporro (650ml cans) - and my mate normally takes a warm bottle of Veuve Cliquot which we swap for a cold one in the VC tent at the Nursery End.
    Only at Lords !
  • Don't go in the bar where the bloke with a collapsed face drinks a pint through a baby bottle.

El presidente re Sapporo - do they still do the cans wher e the whole top peels off?

  • Jamie Olivers got the contract for grub at the food village bit .....£20 for a steak sandwich !! Apparently they sold 11 of them on the first day
I had a spicy pork burrito which was lumpy at £8.50 but a decent size and taste
The lager at £4,.60 a pint was vile and I only drink that crap so had to take the edge off the flat beer with some sprite (shandy drinker) my mates went on to the cider cos the lager was so rank but I dont like cider
Oh and out of 8 people I know who tried to get on "the cloud" free wifi there, only one managed it
And the match referee is Aussie David Boon , do match referees umpire as well ? Does he still hold the record for the most cans of beer consumed on flight between England and Australia
Apparently the outfield was all re-laid after the Olympics last year and where the grass has been layedd and not properly interwoven they have kept the grass longer than usual which has taken 30/40 runs off the expected totals
  • The new food village was an absolute disgrace. Ridiculously overpriced.
The Marstons Pedigree was excellent but I thought a bit expensive at £4.60 a pint.
  • I hope we consider playing an extra bowler for the next test.when things don't go right or the ball isn't swinging we look ordinary.I would bring bresnan in for bairstow and put prior at 6.we got to this I think because the Aussies will bee using 3 seamers and a spinner plus Watson.if we go with 3 seamers against them with our attack we'll lose the ashes.also how much of a loss is Pietersen? Hopefully Chris tremlett will be available for the Ashes.

Dont think so, at least the ones i've been getting recently in Tescos have normal ring-pull.
  • II see Broad was up to his normal tricks , bowling short and wide - i really do not see how he keeps getting picked.I would hope if Tremlett proves his match fitness that he would come back for the Ashes instead of Broad.
Also Matty Prior had a shocker yesterday, out first ball and dropped a simple (for him) catch - maybe its the 'manager of the month' syndrome after being voted player of the year. Ilove Matty though, great player, and great team player.

Apart from Broad, the main concern in the bowling dept for me is that Swanny seems to have been sussed, and most batsmen are copying how Amla negated him by getting outside the line all the time. Because he 'only' has his off spinners, he doesnt have the same threat as say, Ajmal or Narine.
  • I agree with broad.not the same player he was 2 years ago.not bowling well and surely needs a kick up the arse.swann has just come back injury and maybe needs time to get back to match fitness. Adil Rashid got another 100 yesterday and is also a decent spinner.maybe give him a go.
  • What has happened to Broads batting. He looks worse than James Anderson.Broad doesn't justify his place at the moment, batting or bowling.Bresnan would be a better bet.New Zealand bowlers got success by bowling a full length. So England with the exception, of Anderson, bowl too short.England have been really poor in this test and the ones in New Zealand. We seem to be going backwards. The balance of the batting at the top of the order is too pedestrian.Compton,Cook,Trott and Bell.We need a stroke player to open with Cook.
  • Broad is useless, needs to go back to county cricket and work on his game. Can't see tremlett playing for England this year, can't get in Surrey side at the moment
  • Broad strikes early
