I really didn't think W of WS was too long. What would you cut? It seems to be thing to say to cut 20min because Mark Kermode said it. I checked my watch at what I thought was about half way and there was only 20 mins left. Now as for Gravity, that was too long, by about 87mins.
Yeah ok mate we get it....you didn't like Gravity.
12 Years A Slave......didn't fancy it but have to admit it's actually a stunning film. The cinematography in itself captures that deep south look, add to this excellent performances by the three male leads and poor old Patsy makes this an outstanding film.....harrowing in parts, but thought provoking and a very brave film indeed. 9/10

Correct. At last someone has cottoned on. Did you see it? Can you really say you thought it was a good film? Yes the special effects were terrific. Yes the images of the earth and moon from outta space were breathtaking, and yes the level of 3D was the best I have experienced at the cinema. But how long can you marvel at these? 5 mins? 10mins at most. The film had a very shallow plot, hardly any dialogue and a cast of about 3 people. This does not make for 90 mins entertainment. But of course Tinseltown are falling over themselves to chuck as many awards to this film as possible as are our own BAFTA bods. Why?
Beds, I put it on The Bridge thread but no one has come back to my question about the Belgium series starting on BBC4 this Saturday. Is it any good, do you know? Trailers sounded promising, so will probably give it a go. Cheers, in advance.

Yes if you care to scroll back you will see my review...its all subjective mate, as it happens I did enjoy it.

Couldn't agree more - 3D effects great but the plot was extremely lazy.
I could say this is not the worst Danny Dyer film ive ever seen but that's like saying this is not the worst case of piles i have ever suffered. Seriously though this is not half as bad as you may expect. Dyer is the best thing about the movie simply because the rest of the cast are pretty amateurish .The action scenes are pretty good to be fair.
Critically acclaimed, it has won the Golden Globe for the Best Foreign Language film and is Oscar-nominated in the same category. It is certainly visually stunning and the lead is very strong but, for me, it was a little disappointing, particularly as I had fairly high expectations of this film.
It comprises a series of vignettes with no real narrative structure and felt like a triumph of style over substance (although maybe that is partly the point, given that it follows the decadent and vacuous lifestyle of rich socialites in Rome). It is a little derivative of La Dolce Vita but without that film's satirical edge and originality. It also felt a little over-long.
Quite by chance I picked up a book a few years ago called "The Book Thief" It started off in an odd way and I was strangely touched by an early death in the book.....so tonight I went to see the film and it was every bit as good as what was an excellent book...condensed, yes, but the film definetly captured the books essence. Rush was perfect, Watson was terrific and the kids all indeed awesome in a gritty tale set in WW2 Germany. For me this is another very, very good film and Im giving it 8.5/10.......sad in part in the film, chilling and heart wrenching in the book...one to bring a tear to the eye.
Saw Dallas Buyers Club last night. Tbh, didnt know what it was about until I read the paragraph on IMDB as it was downloading. Ahem cough. McConaughey was excellent. Cant believe how much weight he must have lost to play the part, especially at the end, unless it was air brushed.

I watch Oblivion last night on Sky Premier (it came out last year sometime) - not bad , but if you can explain the plot to me I'd be grateful. 6/10 for the action sequences with the drones alone.

Saw The Book Thief and hated it. Rose-tinted, tear-jerking, crowd-pleasing lies with some of the crassest dialogue I've squirmed through for ages. Will no doubt be a huge success.

Saw it this afternoon ...vey good film, and in my view should get best actor and supporting actor in the Oscars ...wonderful performances. 9/10

I should flag the shit outta you.
Digital Piracy on a film that had a smaller budget than the price of Leyton Orient!!!

Ditto. Brilliant writing and acting, with McConnaughey and Leto both superb. For those who like great cinematography and visual stimulation, this film won't score as highly.
I really liked this . Some great performances , especially from Michael Fassbender. It would probably take another viewing at least , to fully understand the whole story though.

Worth watching, but not in the same league as The Bridge or the other Scandis, IMO. The characters do not seem to be as complex. But nicely shot, and may give us some insight into the mess that is Belgium underneath the affluent surface.

I'll be interested in what you think of The Momuments Men Beds? Trailer looked good, but the often do. Lukewarm reception from the critics I hear.
Why?
The programme you are talking about is Salamander on BBC4 at pm Saturday.

I have to admit this is a new one on me. I don't know anything about it.
