OK - here goes. Spoilers, naturally.golfaddick said:I watch Oblivion last night on Sky Premier (it came out last year sometime) - not bad , but if you can explain the plot to me I'd be grateful. 6/10 for the action sequences with the drones alone.
Alien intelligent life comes to Earth in the near future. Probe sent up containing Tom Cruise and saucy English bird gets captured. Alien intelligence wipes out nearly everyone on Earth. Clones Tom and English bird and sets them to work maintaining pumping stations draining the Earth's water supply, spinning them a yarn about civilisation on Titan, and their memories being wiped after some some cataclysmic previous event. Clone Tom has residual memories of Hot Russkie Babe who turns out to be his former wife, who was also on board the original probe, but jettisoned to deep orbit. Original probe is brought back to Earth and crashed, where TC rescues Hot Russkie Babe. TC clone meets an exact copy of himself (TC Clone #2) and defeats him in a fight. Meanwhile Morgan Freeman and a bunch of other people survived the apocalypse wrought by the alient intelligence and are trying to sabotage it. They explain this to Tommy, who agrees to blow the thing up. Tommy succeeds, TC clone #2 meets Hot Russkie Babe, who TC clone #1 has spirited away in secluded spot.
So - basically - Event Horizon, 2001 AD, Planet Of The Apes and (most blatantly) The Matrix all rolled into one movie.
Still enjoyable though - for the visuals and the fantastic soundtrack alone

Saw 12 yeras a slave last night, the acting was great from the whole cast. Bloody good movie, feared it would be another roots but far better than that.0

Had a bit of a catch up in the last few days...
Last Vegas. Think a rubbish version of The Hangover with De Niro, Freeman, Kline and Douglas. 6/10.
The Armstrong Lie. If you're into your cycling, well worth a watch. 7.5/10.
Gravity. See, said I was catching up. 7.5/10
Runner Runner. Ben Afleck runs the world's biggest Ponsi scheme and is brought down by Justin Timberlake. 5/10.0 -
Yes, I saw it last week and the film was well shot and acted etc. I just felt that they could have made more of the true story i.e. more of his life before being kidnapped and certainly more of his tribulations after he was released (family life and court cases). By spending 95% of the film on his life as a slave made it seem like other slave films.msomerton said:Saw 12 yeras a slave last night, the acting was great from the whole cast. I left the cinema feeling mildly disappointed.

Yes great film. One of the better documentaries I saw last year along with the one about the two scots lads that posed as Americans to launch a rap career.charlton_hero said:Anyone seen Searching For Sugarman? Great story. Also recommend The Devil and Daniel Johnston. Two great films.

Homefront
If i had a guilty pleasure when it comes to movies it's probably Jason Statham movies. You know exactly what you are going to get with his films. Homefront it no exception but it's certainly one his weaker efforts . Surprising really considering the cast includes James Franco .

Yes, Searching for Sugarman is a great film, especially when you are not in the mood for something dark or violent.First I heard of it was when the guy himself was interviewed on the Andrew Marr show. The second one about the hip hop hoax sounds good too.Mortimerician said:

Got dragged along to see Cuban fury on Valentine's day by the Missus. Awful beginning but absurd to consider a fat boy could dance better than the really hot guys. It passed the time. 2/50

Saw the Lego Movie last night - really very good. It's somewhere in between Inception and Toy Story, and very funny. Don't think it's just for kids, it's really really not.1

I used to be darker
This film just goes to show that just because something has won an award it doesn't make it any good. This is a film where nothing really happens to a bunch of people you couldn't really care less about.

Getaway
Basically this is a ninety minute car chase that is as exciting as watching paint dry. I should have known better when i saw Selina Gomez was in the cast. Utterly Pointless.

I know its not a new film , but just watched Rush on Blu Ray this week , loved it , don't know how much of it was historically accurate , but their were some funny & shocking moments in the film , 9 out of 10, thought the guy who played Lauda was excellent.0

The Great Hip Hop Hoax
An interesting documentary about two Scottish lads who passed themselves off as two Californian rappers and called themselves Silibil n'Brains and ended up fooling record executives and fans alike but only in London. The title is a bit misleading as they didn't really hoax many people.
For me the only fools were the people who liked dross they sang ( if you can call rapping singing).

Lone Survivor.....as war type films go, it was pretty good. The action sequences were jaw clenchingly awesome, the only thing that let it down was the over enthusiatic yahoo "we're Americans and arent we damned wonderful " dialogue. Realism struck home at the end when you see the footage of the real people and that was a bit of a choker.....I felt exhausted by the finish and my jaw really did ache due to the gritted teeth during the gruesome fighting. Could have been a 9/10 but will have to settle for a 8/10 due to the aforementioned yahooisms.1

Prague, it's a bit of an adventure story - director is Wes Anderson, so everything is very vivid/ cartoon-esque. About the life of the Concierge at the hotel, set in a fictional Eastern European country in the 1930s. Fantastic cast including Ralph Fiennes as the concierge, Willem Defoe as the baddy, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Harvey Keitel etc. Get the feeling they had a lot of fun making it! Overall it is very lighthearted, though with a few darker undertones. Kind of Tea with Mussolini meets Brother Where Art Thou if that makes any sense at all?!0
