He'll probably spend much of the time talking about Ryan Giggs (they're doing their badges together)

    His words in summary:

Charlton was a mess when he first took over with everyone at the club clinging onto the Premier League years. Told the board we needed fresh players who haven't experienced that. Asked for £1m of the Jenkisnon money to do this (He was sold for £1.5m). He spent £900k on three players and ten on free transfers and moved some high earners out.

Danny Murphy says he really enjoyed his time at Charlton. Murphy says Powell didn't get the chance to move the club forward under RD after having to offload his best players.

Murphy said that Powell will come onto that later... (the getting rid of best players and having a hard time with the board)... glad i am working from home today!

Totally this.... Murray said he "knows" he will manage the club 3 times as well as play for them 3 times as Charlton is "in his blood"

Powell on RD and the sacking

Inevitable change with takeovers. Wish he'd asked RD if it was going to be a long-term relationship from day one. Has to be careful what he says for legal reasons. Says to say the three months were tough is an understatement.

When the plans were unveiled for the future of the club it didn't sit easy with him. It was getting tougher and tougher.

He felt the players brought in by RD weren't the right players, he feels Riga thinks the same as he's not playing them either.

He felt all the contract talk and press conference was just PR.

'Charlton don't do cup runs.' The cup run piled the games up and that is why we were bottom. We were only bottom on the weekend of the Sheffield Utd game as Barnsley and Yeovil both won that weekend. Important to remember that. We had four games in hand and one win would have taken us out of it. Didn't respond when Murray said he thinks Powell will manage us again.

He spoke to Sir Alex who said he feels sorry for him but maybe three year's was enough.

Speaking about the Huddersfield game with the applause on three minutes. Thinks it's a great way of us showing our appreciation and respect for him.

Says he has to make himself employable. Finishes his pro licence in June with Giggs and Gary Neville. Sounds like he's up for getting back into management this summer. Wants to apply and do it the right way (i.e. not going behind another manages back I assume).

Good point this. I'd like to raise it with some of the knuckle dragging morons on here, because we need some clarification.

Obviously we know rule 1) The second another player wears another teams shirt he was an absolutely awful player who was a joke and below par the entire time he was there.

What is the rule with managers? And does this differ when they are employed to when they were unemployed? ie, can we miss him now, but not the second he has another job?

Agree but we would have felt a hell of a lot sadder had we been rooted to the bottom of the table.

I am actually happy he left when he did so he didn't have to be lumped with a relegation on his CV. He has come out of it ok, and we boosted our chances of staying up. Everyone's happy

Just a gut feel, but we were dead and buried after that Sheffield United game IMO. Anyway that shouldn't detract from this thread. He is a lovely chap, and I am happy he has come out of this undamaged
