why not get a longer contract sorted for jg now?1

First time I have ever seen him play. No doubt about it, this kid has got a big future. For a 17 year old his physique is as impressive as his reading of the game.
I am am guessing we are doing everything in our power to get him signed up on a pro deal. Needs to be sorted sooner rather than later or he will be tapped up and poached.0 -
Spot on Clem. Strong, skilful, reads the game very quickly - and looked like he'd been playing first team games for years.
Bikey looked ok alongside him. Probably best caveat both of those statements with the fact this was against STVV, but first full game of the pre-season looked promising.1 -
Certainly agree we need to incentivize Joe Gomez to sign a decent contract. We didn't give Poyet (enough) reason to stay, but we need to make sure JG has reason to stay and would sign up.
Some creative thinking might be appropriate such as a contract with a good old fashioned fat loyalty bonus.0 -
He was a regular in the England side that won the U17 Euro's so every big club in the country will have known about him for ages and been on to his agent. I hope he signs a long term deal with us but i can't help but think we won't be seeing much of him at Charlton past his 18th birthday0

Didn't give Poyet enough reason to stay? Not enough money more like.seth plum said:Certainly agree we need to incentivize Joe Gomez to sign a decent contract. We didn't give Poyet (enough) reason to stay, but we need to make sure JG has reason to stay and would sign up.

Very impressed with Gomez - strong, quick feet, good timing in the tackle and calm distribution, brings the ball out of defence, sound reading of the game and positional sense.
Footballing centre back. He's got it all.

Having watched him regularly for the last year, I have posted on several occasions that for his age he is the best prospect we have ever produced. Having said that in my opinion, he is just not ready yet to play championship level football consistently and regular play could set back his development.
We need to dip him in and out of the team over the season. Short term Bikey looked the business to me. Saw nothing today to make me change my opinion on piss poor Pete.2 -
I've said many times - he's like Rio Ferdinand. Just less of a nobhead
Serious talent3 -
Sign him up long term sure. More importantly sign the rest of the squad so we can do our best this season to make Charlton the place to be in 2015-16... And keep producing more talent.
Look forward to Welling and Brentford to see how this squad and team shapes up.0 -
Didn't want to post that as I can't stand Rio Ferdinand. But I did find myself watching him today and thinking that very thought.Swisdom said:I've said many times - he's like Rio Ferdinand. Just less of a nobhead

He's also the fastest centre back that I've seen since Rufus.1
-
considering prem clubs have allegedly been after him since he was 15 and he still plays for us, we might have a chance of keeping him0
-
what is his contract situation as it stands?0
-
I dont think he has signed a pro contract yet, he will now be a second year scholar so his youth contract will be up at the end of the seasonsuperclive said:what is his contract situation as it stands?

He has a very sensible and supportive family network around him. There is, as far as I am aware, no intention to move on yet. He has had plenty of offers but has not had his head turned. Of course it is not just the player who is seduced by the terms offered by big clubs. The family are included in any deals aswell.
This was the case with Kasey Palmer. The deal he got with Chelsea pretty much financially set up his family for life.0 -

I've only seen a few minutes of Gomez on the TV but he looked special. Really looking forward to see what he's about in the flesh. Any chance of seeing him in the first team at the start of the season?0

I've written you a letter asking for Joemez to play for Christmas so I expect you to sort it out for boxing day or my Christmas will be ruined.SantaClaus said:I've only seen a few minutes of Gomez on the TV but he looked special. Hopefully Poyet's career will stall now and it will be a blessing in disguise. Young players like Gomez will see the best thing is to stay at Charlton.

Unless we get some sell on clauses as part of the comp agreement I'm bitter and petty enough of a man to agree with you!Norfolk_Addick said:Hopefully Poyet's career will stall now and it will be a blessing in disguise. Young players like Gomez will see the best thing is to stay at Charlton.

Bit harsh on Diego really. I hope he goes on to do well to show how well our academy products turn out and so future potential Poyets, Gomez(es), Parkers, Rufus(es) etc. will want to be at our academy. We will hopefully get to keep some for longer than Diego but Diego's situation has been a lesson to all that we should get our house back in order and not let contracts run down.Norfolk_Addick said:Hopefully Poyet's career will stall now and it will be a blessing in disguise.
