Yep, on the Bob Peeters, joe Gomez article. Good news, wish it was longer.0

How's that gone over our heads?1

"“I am happy man if I can bring in a young gun and if he is playing already at this level then I think he is going to be a great talent,” Peeters said of Gomez, who signed a two-year professional contract in SE7 earlier this year."
Was that even reported at the time? Seems strange that they wouldn't announce it.1 -
So, all that panicking for nothing?3

Seem to remember when Shelvey turned pro it was celebrated on the OS. Gomez turns pro and they remember to mention it briefly in an article weeks/months after it happened.1

RD's master plan: Big club comes sniffing, thinking 'Mwahaha, those Belgian fools lost Poyet cheap, surely we can obtain gifted youngster on a budget!'... and then The Beloved Leader points out the £5million release clause and thousands of add-ons they hid in the small print. Jackpot!Scoham said:Seem to remember when Shelvey turned pro it was celebrated on the OS. Gomez turns pro and they remember to mention it briefly in an article weeks/months after it happened.

Must've been all that time we apparently spent with our heads buried in the sand.ValleyGary said:How's that gone over our heads?

Or expecting / hoping for the worst2

Same length of contract as Poyet signed at 17...

So he's contracted until June 2016?0
-
thing is that 'earlier this year' is stretching it though. He couldnt sign a pro contract until he was 17 which was only a couple of weeks ago, albeit being earlier this year. Also, this should be announced with a fanfare to highlight that we can hang onto our best young players so sending a message o others coming through. Immnot convinced on this, I'd like further confirmation other than a one liner in another article.0

Sounds like a good attitude from Gomez in that article as well... Where it mentions that he's got his head down and has trained all summer and was happy doing 90mins
I really wouldnt be surprised if he makes his debut against Colchester and does a Jordan Cousins, the interesting factor will be if he makes an appearance against Portsmouth and Swindon in the friendlies0 -
Joe Gomez was 17 on 23rd May 2014 therefore if it is true Joe Gomez is contracted until late May 2016. I can't believe his signing of a two year contract would not have been mentioned on the OS six weeks ago which is the earliest point 'earlier this year' that he could've signed.
It may be the communications folk were on holiday or something as it was just after the end of the season. This was the news on the 23rd May (positive stuff btw):

The next OS piece of news was this on the 3rd June (may well also be positive stuff):

gomez can sign an agreement to say he will sign a professional contract, so that's probably what happened earlier in the year and when he turned 17 the contract kicked in to effect.0
-
Weird it didn't get announced0
-
Suspect it was just one. Of those things there was a period fairly recently where little seemed to be being reported and the comms team were being held back, maybe this just got tied up in other stuff.0

I'm sure the club always used to communicate things like this. I wouldn't be surprised if Gomez' contract was only mentioned on the OS because it's been talked about so much on here, Twitter etc.
There's been no news on the u18 second years, though we found out Mikhail Kennedy is moving up to the u21s through an interview on another website. Two others are listed in the development squad on the OS (but not Kennedy?), while Archie Edwards said he signed pro on Twitter (though perhaps that's because he's not yet 17).0 -
Definitely think he'll be involved in the first team this season after those comments by Peeters.
The lad is absolutely brilliant for his age.0 -
Just find it puzzling that the club do not post positive news like this ASAP. Transparency and honesty go a long way, not stage managed news feeds, kept back for reasons that I find rather baffling.Scoham said:I'm sure the club always used to communicate things like this. Delighted to see that we have signed the lad, According to the 'reports' seems to be a feather in CAFC's cap. If he could not sign till May fine just state it.......

So the entire squad apart from Wilson, Church and Buyens (loan) is signed until 2016 and beyond! There is room and hopefully budget for a few more loan / permanent signings. And plenty of time to nail some deals to complete the jigsaw. Obviously someone out there is going to find fault with either the last or current executive but our club is on the up after seven turbulent years. Nowhere near challenging for the top six this season but we might make up some of the ground in time to have a crack in 2015-16?0

FWIW Karl-Ahearne Grant also apparently got a pro-contract a month or so ago according to a friend of mine who works at the Harris Academy.6
-
Is there anyone who knows someone in the Charlton office of (information)? who could put out a list of all players now signed on for 2014-2015 including the younger players who have signed professional contracts. Surely this could be done quite easily, or do any of them read this or indeed KM herself.0

So basically we've been panicking for nothing1

Surprised he has not been fast tracked like Gomes tbh. More potential than Zak?Avi_dAddick said:FWIW Karl-Ahearne Grant also apparently got a pro-contract a month or so ago according to a friend of mine who works at the Harris Academy.
