Wasn't it Oldham that signed Lee Hughes?0
-
Yep0
-
Not sure how well the 'not being named' thing was going to go. How far were they intending on taking it? Would they announce that they'd signed Ed Chevans and see if no one noticed?0
-
He would certainly have lost his job if he had revealed the victim's name.paulie8290 said:C.Walsh'sLoveChild said:Sky News revealed the name by mistake.

could lose his job over that, if the club were supposed to remain nameless0 -
He's a regular on Sky News. They, as a conpany, have never done anything to show any integrity in the past, why now?
You're also assuming it was a slip, opposed to being the broadcaster that 'broke the story'!1 -
Right. I'm never going to Oldham again !0
-
Signing for Oldham.
...oops thanks Colin.2 -
If everyone managed to forget about Oldham signing Lee Hughes then I'm sure people will forget about Ched Evans signing even more quickly0
-
"Everyone" didn't forget about them signing Lee Hughes though.cafcnick1992 said:If everyone managed to forget about Oldham signing Lee Hughes then I'm sure people will forget about Ched Evans signing even more quickly
And I think their signing of Evans will be remembered long after he's stopped playing for them, assuming he ever does.1 - Sponsored links:

It's not done and dusted yet and I hope they see sense and don't go through with it.
Amazing to see the reactions of local Oldham folk/fans on the tv interviews a few minutes back and also some of the rubbish spouted on their forum.
I'm not sure who their sponsors are but I'd assume they must have consulted with them beforehand or this could be a nightmare for them.
I can't remember if it's been commented on before in this thread but genuinely quite surprised to see the PFA/Gordon Taylor offering such support to Evans in a public manner.0 -
I'm not - Taylor has shown himself many times to be an apologist for footballers' worst excesses.red_murph said:It's not done and dusted yet and I hope they see sense and don't go through with it.

Taylor has made a great living off of being friend to all players good and bad0

One person has their identity protected by law, the other is a club signing a convicted rapist.
Proper weird comment.2 -
The victim couldn't visit her family this Christmas and is in hiding again

It's one of my great pleasures of an evening, getting the chance to Oldham.
With respect, I'd not be happy with you getting to Oldham in my place.2 -
We're talking about a man convicted of rape who has never once come close to apologising for his actions. A whole different kettle of fish from the Lee Hughes situation, or any situation we've seen in English football before.cafcnick1992 said:If everyone managed to forget about Oldham signing Lee Hughes then I'm sure people will forget about Ched Evans signing even more quickly

I just find it strange that (because of his conviction) he's not allowed to leave the country, yet we don't seem to have a problem letting convicted rapists & murderers in from the rest of europe..........5

Because he hasn't served his sentence0

I'm sure once he's done the full 5 years he's free to leave, although many countries wouldn't let him in.tangoflash said:I just find it strange that (because of his conviction) he's not allowed to leave the country, yet we don't seem to have a problem letting convicted rapists & murderers in from the rest of europe..........

Charlton aren't stupid enough to sign you in that situation.Covered End said:

Interesting story in the Independent tomorrow, Lee Johnson, Oldham manager didn't want Evans, but was overruled at board level0
-
What Hughes did was far, far worse. He killed a bloke. Killed. He ran away from the scene, leaving him to die.cafctom said:

Lee Hughes made a huge mistake - which he then pleaded guilty to. He didn't go out with the intention of killing someone that night.
Ched Evans has been legally declared of the crime of rape - an action that he was conscious of at the time, and still hasn't apologised for.
If you've attended a game where Hughes has played you'll have noticed that he gets a fair bit of stick, but it doesn't seem to go beyond that. The level of abuse Evans is going to get will be on a whole new level, trust me.0 -
I think you really have to read up On the ched Evans story to be able to make a judgement on if he should still be playing football or not. Yes he was found guilty, but there is definitely something not right about the case/ trial. He has always maintained his innocence and if that is the case, why should he apologise? If you were convicted of a crime you didn't commit, would you apologise for doing it? No. He did apologise to his girlfriend and family for having sex with the girl in question. He did apologise to his fans, his club etc for letting them down etc. but he always maintained sex was consensual. I think he was a prat for doing it but I'm not convinced it was rape. Should he get a second chance. IMO, yes. At charlton??.......personally, I wouldn't mind. We all make mistakes and I think he made a gigantic one. But for me it was just a massive mistake and not a crime.1

Opinions are opinions - but this guy had a jury unanimously deem him guilty having studied all of the evidence. They then rejected his appeal without giving it a second thought.braydex said:I think you really have to read up On the ched Evans story to be able to make a judgement on if he should still be playing football or not. I'm going to take their word for it over Ched Evans' word.1 -

Lee Hughes got into a car knowing he was drunk so in my mind he is culpable of murder whatever the law says otherwise. He's a scumbag. He ran away from the scene leaving a man to die. Scumbag.cafctom said:
